It is often stated that you cannot shoot within 50 feet of a highway, however that is not wholly correct. Shooting within 50ft is not in its self an offence. The law states that : It is an offence to discharge a firearm within 50ft of the centre of the highway if by doing so a person using the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered. So, if if someone reports you for shooting within 50ft of a highway, but no one is injured, interrupted, or endangered no offence has been committed. Of course you've got to use good judgement and be better safe than sorry. You wouldn't want to injure, interrupt or endanger any one regardless of whether it was 50ft or 100 yards.

I live in the USA and I live in a city that forbids the use of airguns within city limits and that includes gardens on your own property. It's a bit tedious as I have a decent sized garden but have to drive 5 miles to get to the place where I can use mine. A have a friend who's house is literally yards away from the city line and he gets to shoot as often as he likes, such is life. The laws in the UK seem to treat airgun owners and users with a bit more trust and assumed responsibility.

In the UK trust of anything gun related went out of the window with the Dunblane massacre, today the situation is 10 times worse with a door to door gestapo(Police)interrogation of gun tools, rifles,licensed and unlicensed taking the place of Jews(if you'll excuse the comparision).Yes the guns are persecuted in broad daylight and seized,confiscated and government propaganda is in full force against them.

I think the problem in America is that they are seen as somewhat not a "real" gun or firearm. And so they believe people (especially younger people) would use them in a very jovial way, such as shooting at a car or window etc.

Power levels are different and UK is increasingly a hostile place for shooters across the board -lead ban , swat team seizure of shotguns of people with permits and permission to be on land

Hi Richard. What's the quietest material/back stop for garden shooting to keep the noise to a minimum?? Cheers
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 Год назад
Hi Stevo. A couple of bags of sand or those large 100 litre peat bales make great back stops. And when they get too 'holey' a bit of gaffer tape will keep you going...

I have two pcp's Airarms 410 and 510 ( which I find to be excellent ) but I am thinking of buying a springer. Do you have any opinion on the air arms pro sport or similar springers?
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 года назад
Hi Steve. We reviewed four excellent underlevers - the Air Arms ProSport and TX200, and the HW97KT and HW77K from Weihrauch - on the channel. All of the excellent rifles. There's no wrong choice between them. It really comes down to your budget and which one you like the look and feel of the most. There are great break barrels too - HW95 for example which we hope to review soon.

Im thinking of buying and shooting in my back garden, what wold you say is a good length garden to shoot in ?
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 9 месяцев назад
Hi Mark. That largely depends on the type pf rifle you intend buying. If a full 12 ft/lbs rifle, I'd say you need a range at least 20 metres long. If you plan on buying a Co2 then you could probably get away with something shorter. A safe backstop is the most important consideration - something that will absorb pellets, such as sand, or stop them flat like a paving slab. Be aware though that BBs will ricochet off a hard surface, so sand is best. Have fun.

Just a comment, it's perfectly legal to shoot next to a road on property where you have permission as long as no one is injured, interrupted, or feels endangered, obviously you wouldn't shoot towards a road but this law confuses a lot of people so a better explanation is necessary, you can't shoot within 50 Feet of the centre of a road is just wrong.
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 9 месяцев назад
You cannot shoot within 50 feet of the centre of a carriage way, even if you have permission to shoot on the land. Sitting on the pavement and shooting into a field is not recommended!

What would you recommend to use as a backstop for shooting in my garden?
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 года назад
Hi Steve. There are all kinds of things that you can use. The important points to consider though are: 1) will it stop pellets dead in their tracks so there are no ricochets 2) will it be quiet 3) can I collect pellets every now and then rather than have them strewn around all over the place. I have found bags of sand make an effective and cheap back stop, especially if you can rig up some sort of container/frame. Targets can be pinned directly onto the bags though of course you will end up shooting holes in the bags and the sand will fall out. You can get around that by placing a pellet catcher in front. If you can attach the pellet catcher to something solid like a piece of wood to reduce the sound a pellet will make when impacting. I am sure others will have some great suggestions too.

@@alphamilitaria2756 Thanks very much for the advice. I think I will box up sandbags and when there are too many holes just rewrap them in bin liners.

Cardboard box filled with old clothes or news papers does a good job quiet and stops ricochets and costs nothink just duck tape it to make it waterproof

So can you not shoot squirrels in a woodland?
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 года назад
I can only speak to the UK, but I suspect laws in other countries are similar and you should always check the legal position for wherever you are. In the UK, if the woodland is yours, or you have permission to shoot in the woods then yes, you can shoot grey squirrels. If the woods are not yours, or you don't have permission to shoot from the owner of the woods then absolutely not. In the UK that would be armed trespass.
@MrRockstar1968
@MrRockstar1968 3 года назад
@@alphamilitaria2756 what if it's public woodland, how could that be trespass?
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 года назад
@@MrRockstar1968 Steve - if its public woodland and you don't have permission to shoot on it from the owners - and- someone will own it - you will be done for armed trespass. Even if it is some sort of ancient common land, you will still be in trouble for having a firearm in a public place. Please, don't do it.
@MrRockstar1968

@@alphamilitaria2756 Thanks for that. I though public land meant it was public owned.
