My friend Lyla proved me wrong, you can use a hot glue gun, go watch that ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lGyWhWPfmlo.html My friend Bill @berserkerworks sculpted the cute orc totems in the video I'm molding
I just wanna say I appreciate how you got straight to answering the question in this video. Many other youtubers would've padded it out with a 5 minute recap of the question, as if we hadn't gotten it from the title. Great stuff
hey there turns out you CAN actually do molds straight from the hot glue gun as long as you lubricate the model with oil of some kind, after watching this video over 50 times, I was filled with enough inspiration from @miscast to risk losing my sculpt and it somehow ended up working! Time to cast it in plaster now buh byeeeeee
Haha, it's been many years since I lived in Australia, but that Spotlight comment had me right back there 🤣 Also, brilliant idea thanks for making the video!
Cool! Also, if you want to prevent bubbles in the surfice of your plaster cast, like the tiny ones you see in the final example, apply some of the plaster mix with a brush inside the mold before pooring in the bunch.
Ima be real with ya Trent your nurgle diaries series finally got me into kitbashing and old imperial guard army into pox walkers. It’s been super Fun. Anyways what I’m trying to say is thank you man❤️
as a brazilian that had a hard time trying to find green stuff and other specialized materials where i live, i thank you. I thank you with all my heart
I had tried hot glue molds from without seeing anyone talk about them online, and found small bits were ok, but two part molds were hard, but I was using it straight from the gun. Never did I think about boiling it and folding it over, but now I'm going to go find some stuff to work on and hopefully not burn myself.
This morning, me: 'God, I have way too many hot glue sticks' 5 Minutes ago, Trent: 'Hey, go boil them and mould stuff' Moral of the story; Miscast is spying on me and I'm ok with it.
I tried low-temp and high-temp Bostik glue sticks. They do NOT work. Possibly because the quality is too high? Perhaps low-quality glue sticks are less sticky.
AMAZING tutorial, this is going to be super helpful with some of the projects I'm working on. (I hope you were using a respirator while pouring plaster)
If the detail is not too fine you can also use Plasticine. Push the master into the plasticine and put the lot in the freezer (to make the plasticine hard), de-mould and then make the copy with plaster or epoxy putty of your choice. You will lose some detail but it's good enough for many things.
Oh wow!! I never knew this. I have loads of plasticine which I bought to seal mould housing. That was before I was aware it reacted with my silicone rubber. Great idea, thank you so much for sharing it x ❤
yesss, its just a weird coincidence, I made this a couple of weeks ago but put it aside to finish my nurgle diaries video. Post-Lyla's vid I figured it was still useful, same material, different techniques and info. Lyla's video is great and totally proved me wrong about the glue gun thing, I've pinned it in the comments if anyone is curious.
"Oyumaru isn't prohibitively expensive and you can always easily reuse it." We're Australians. You'd be horrified on how far we have to travel and what we have to pay 😒
Thank you for doing this video and making it simple to see what you're doing! Have you had any fails with the glue sticking to the templates doing it this way? Or take any precautions by coating them first, just in case? I know you said how the water forms a skin but did see as you worked with it sometimes it would stick to your gloves. 🤔 I'm trying to get very shallow/small impression details and want to be sure I can still see them. Thanks!
Most of my figures lost weapons during a house fire. I recently got some back from the storage locker and wanted to make Mold of whatever weapons or accessories survived. I wasn’t in the mood of waiting for resin. What a godsend this video was!
This is such a great video, I love the simplicity... not just of the mold, but of your plaster technique. Not everything needs to be done "by the book". Add some water, plaster, smack the table and done. Awesome Trent.
This is great! I'm 100% using this on my next project. Also... now I just REALLY want to see your take on some Lord of the Rings stuff, it's THE BEST GAME!
Thank you for this lovely little video . . . Now if I could only find a TEC 850-12 (they've been discontinued - but the -15 I think is still available) good high and fast heat. Even used, would gladly pay "rehoming" fee to give it a good new home. Lots of good tips to start me on my new adventure in injection molding 💕
i'm an old wh fantasy player, and i need a shitton of new round bases to play aos... is it a good idea to make hot glue molds and fill them with acetone melted sprues?
Dude omg man, right from the beginning i was cursing words so bad from wtf amazement of 'how did i not figure this out/ i knew there had to be a hot glue method out there that works!' Basically my curse words before commenting here were full of good intentions, lol Thank you beyond much for the detailing of it and explaining the differences in temp, way to do it, etc, AND doing it right from the glue gun because I dodged a bullet seeing this right before I literally was about to do it, so whew! Good wishes to your channel. 🥂to Art!
Great idea! I might try this someday. But what I really like to now is this: what poder are you mixing for making the mold? That is plaster right? What product are you using for this? Thank you!
I'm going to do this! I have a few different kinds of long-in-the-box hot glue sticks, and I can't get myself to afford the store-intended clear stuff. Thanks for another awesome video, this had tons of greats suggestions.
