I messed up my eyes with extreme dryness due to putting Tretinoin close to my eyes 😅 had to go to a doc for it and still recovering from that a couple of years later. Learned my lesson!
Also wanted to add- my skin handles tret very well and I rarely have visual dryness. I assumed I was fine but was very much not. Learn from my dumb mistake! 😅
I can listen to listen Dr Shereene’s voice all day. Not only she’s so smart and her tips so valuable, but her voice has the quality of a movie star. I want to learn everything she talks about!!! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@brendaamira7249 how close to your eyeline do you get? And are you sleeping with it on too? Im so scared it'll migrate in the night or ill rub it into my eyeballs and its sTrong stuff! Ive got some kojic acid and turmeric soap on the way so ill try that first lol 🙈
No one seems to talk about that eye doctors say to avoid using prescription strength retinoids around the eye because they possibly could permanently stop some of your eyeball lubrication glands in your upper or lower lids from working, resulting in chronic dry eye issues. (AKA mybomean glands). Function of the glands would never come back even if you stop using retinoids. Please use a retinol that is specifically labeled for under eye use for this reason.
She's talking about how to use retinoids around the eye area. As you know, using different forms of it, including tretinoin, can cause dryness and, if not used well, cause damage to your skin barrier. The skin around our eyes is thinner, so using the products around there should be done with caution. The sandwich method is one way of safely using retinol under your eye. First, use a thick moisturiser or vaseline, etc... then use the retinol and then another layer of moisturiser. Using retinol on the eyelids themselves is not something she recommends. That's quite terrifying for me too 😅 PRP or Platelet rich plasma is another way to stimulate cell turnover and collagen production in the skin. This is the method she used instead of retinol/tretinol under her eyes. She has other videos talking about building a routine and consistency vs the dosage of the products used. As well as good brands or products, especially the ones that won't cost and arm and 3 legs.😊 Did I help? I hope so. Sorry for causing any more confusions. English is not my mother tongue Have a great day 😊
Same, I decided to invest in a matching eye cream from the same line than my face retinal. With the amount of money I save thanks to her advices (diaper rush cream, skipping moisturizer and go straight to sunscreen, etc...) I can afford it😅. Our meibomian glands well deserve some extra love🖤
I protect my upper lids with vaseline or Aquaphor and I make sure to "laminate" my brows so the retinoid applied on my forehead does not migrate through them. My brows are The Chinese Wall😅! 🧛🏻♀️🖤
Could you please explain the actual dangers of retinol on upper eyelids? I ask because I use retinol there and have no problems (I use it with eye cream and Vaseline). Is there long term damage from this that I’m unaware of? Or is it just irritation you’re concerned about? Thanks!
Think of it like this. Tretinoin dries out your skin. The meibomian glands that you have in your eyelids work in the same way as the glands in your skin that produce fat and oils. Put tret on them and they are going to dry out. Some people can't put tret anywhere on their face without drying out all glands on their face. A woman I read about put tret on her chin and her eyes got dry. Don't ask, I have no idea how that works. The problem with the meibomian glands is that you can't keep track of them in the same way as you can your skin so it's hard to know when you've dried them out too much. Also they seem to react easily to tret and not return easily to a normal state if you realise they are 'dried out' and you stop using the tret. Apparently it's not unusual for women to realise, after years of tret use, that their eyes have become dry and sometimes it's hard to do anything about it. I put Retinal, not even tret, on just the crease of my lids one night because I thought I'd gotten used to the Retinal after months of use. Big mistake. Felt like I had sand in my eyes for a week. And this after doing it only once. Never again. Now it's only on the bony part around the eyes or not at all.
I use a retinal on my upper lids aswell, but a very mild one. It's a cream designed for the eyes, so the ingredients are softer anyway. But now I am curious as well. I know there is an explanation above my reaction, but not to be rude, there are so many people who claim certain things that I don't know what is true and proven by experts anymore. I know you can do your own research, but these days there are so many weird things posted...
Yes I asked her the same thing because I also use it everywhere on my eyes and my skin does really well, and has for years. It always just seems like people say not to because you might get severe irritation etc.. but nothing else is ever said.
So Shereene are PRP injections safe around the eyes? I remember you once said in a short that we should avoid injections around the eyes as there could be potential risk of blindness
Thank you. I'm on drugstore L'Oreal retinol serum still, I use it 3 times a week (every other day, weekends free) but never without buffer/sandwich. I use it around eyes, including upper lid. I never had irritation on my lids, I mostly develop irritation around mouth or above my brows. My eyes are OK so far, which is surprising. Actually, I'm menopausal and my face tend to be sweaty - which contributes to 'ret on wet' effect. I try to cool off and use fan to dry up my face before application, but it's still wet in certain areas. And I get sensitivities there. Is there a reason why upper lids are forbidden? :) Some ladies claimed that retinoids on upper lid and forehead help slightly lift the lid, especially in a case of hooded/droopy lids.
Dr., What about using any actives on the laugh lines?? I’m noticing my laugh lines are getting crazier as I age… and I wonder if I overdid adaphalene / vitamin C or anything else? Thank you for your content... It's answers so many questions! And thank you for always keeping it real❤
Yes! I ended up using tret on my eye lids! Took some time to recover, was so sensitive with putting anything on them!! Vaseline only helped recover my eye lids
So would the Vaseline prevent it from going inside of our skin? And also Vaseline as an inclusive does it just sit at the top layer of our skin or does it actually go in? I never understood that.
What works for me: I apply retinol on the face and then immediately use a polyglutamic serum on my cheeks and around the lower eyelids, I think a bit of the retinol from the cheeks are mixed into that... At least I hope so 😅
Ok, so what if one can tolerate it just fine? Is it still recommended that I don’t use it on the upper eyelid? I’ve never had any problems whatsoever with putting it on my eyelids, or around my mouth etc. Is it solely because of possible irritation and redness etc that you say not to? Or are there other problems that it could cause, even if my skin handles it just fine? Will you please address this sometime in a short or something? Thank you so much!! Love your videos!!❤
What do you think of Olay's Retinol24 series? Is it actually good or not? Because I can't even know how much retinol is in it, I've tried searching on the packaging and online.
I use the Murad retinol resculpt around my eyes and it works fine it did bother me at first but now it is not a problem and it moisturizes my under eye beautifully and it makes my under eyes look so much better and more hydrated
Can you use Alpha Aurbutin under the eyes and on the eyelids for hyperpigmentation? Also is Alpha Aurbutin safe to use for long term since hydroquinone is not?
What can we use to tighten our upper eyelids? I've watched like all your videos and have been watching you for a year or two now ❤ I'm 29 and have rubbed my eyes so much my whole life (and still do), but im starting to notice the skin on my top lids are looking not so tight anymore. Maybe you could do a video or shorts on those who rub their eyes too much and have aged skin, and what treatments/products can combat the whole area 😊
I have milia on my upper and lower lids and upper cheeks, and my dermatologist told me to use a 0.025% tretinoin cream he prescribed on them to get rid of them, but I've been terrified to put it around my eyes! Is that percentage okay to put a very tiny amount on my upper eyelids too (with a q-tip only on the milia)?
I just started tret again. I was dumb last time putting it all over my eyes and got dermatitis on my upper lid. Now I put Vaseline completely around my eye first and just the tret high up on my cheek
So basically we can use the best anti-aging product all over our face but on its fastest-aging area, aka around the eye. What's the point of having youthful cheeks and forehead but old-ass eyelids...?😂
Agency has a eye Tretinion I’ve used it for almost 2 months it is kind of greasy so I think I will skip this next month and go back to using my regular tret prescription, and save money, kinda like there hydroquinone stopped using that to after the first bottle because they say if you stop using it your spots will come back lol, so I’m saving money there too!! Keep it simple
Forgive me if you’ve reviewed this but what is your stance on the Ordinary brands Retinol serum? I’ve really liked it so far BUT then I saw you using a crèpe/wrinkle cream for your neck that I’ll probably try out too. I’m 28 & take care of my skin the best I can. Thanks for all the advice, I feel like it’s always Botox Botox Botox and some of us don’t want to or can’t afford it. Not judging it, I kinda want it but I’m too scared haha so getting good real advice from a board certified dermatologist is amazing and much appreciated! You look amazing by the way💚💚🙌
Does adding an occlusive apply to using lactic acid as well? I was given a sample by my dermatologist to try but she didn’t mention putting it on top of an occlusive. BTW I’ve never used any kind of acid or retinol ever. Kind of freaks me out. But because you said it makes the skin thicker, I’m thinking about it.
Hi, Dr. Idris! Any thoughts on the DRMTLY HPR eye cream? It has hydroxypinacolone retinoate. Is it strong enough to have the same impact as retinol with a buffer?
interestingly my eye skin loves adapalene and I have no reaction to it that is bad, contrary to the rest of my face, but is there a reason for not putting it on top of your eyelids besides from potential irritation?
My skin is pretty good but my problem area is my under eyes. I have dark circles and often visible puffiness & I was told that I should get filler. I’m afraid because I don’t want it to look bad or make my face look big and round. I already have a full face and cheeks. I really need a solution though, I want my face to be all one color 😢
So what should we apply under eyes and around eyes because ageing is so evident there. Why not tretinoin ? I don't want wrinkles ariund and under eyes. Any answers?
@Naz-Ali there are less strong retinoids than tretinoin that might be okay under the eyes but still probably best to buffer it with moisturizer first and don't go all the way up to the lash line
PRP (platelet rich plasma) is basically an "extract" from your blood that has been obtained by separation methods such as centrifuging and decanting, so as to separate the liquid part of blood (plasma) from the solid parts, red blood cells. The "extract" (plasma) is concentrated with regenerative properties such as growth factors, and platelets; cell fragments that are essential for blood clotting and wound healing. When PRP is injected into the skin, it shows promise for healing, anti-aging benefits and androgenetic alopecia. However, benefits for chronic conditions (like pattern baldness and aging) are often short-lived and need to be followed up by regular sessions of PRP for prolonged results, i.e. it's not a one-and-done treatment unless you supplement it with other measures, like using minoxidil for alopecia, or retinoids and sunscreen for skin ageing. Hope this helps❤

I got that musely prescribed eye cream and it got rid of my triple eyelids in like 2 weeks. It says not to put on the eyelids so I put it under my brow bone. 😂
im not sure if it's the vitamin A in it but when i use retin-A on my eyelids and around my eyes, i have the deepest nourishing sleep and most vivid dreams. Not sure why🤷🏻♀️
I have been by using tretinoin with BHA’s and AHA’s on the same night. I have read everywhere that no one should do that, but I don’t feel irritated or have dry skin at all. Plus my skin barrier is not inflamed. Is it possible that my skin is taking damage but I don’t know? Cuz I have been using just 0.025% tretinoin every single night for a few months now, and I was using retinol before that too (to manage my teen acne). I’m starting to feel like my other serums are going to waste if I can’t use them with tretinoin. I would really like to hear your educated opinion on this topic.
I have a question, i read that using Vaseline on your eyelids helps them moisture and grow and I used like 4-5 times a week and then one days my eyes were blurred and all sticky and so much of that whitish-yellowish material so what caused it?
What’s the difference between injecting PRP under your eyes versus under eye hyaluronic filler? Which option is better for lhollow under eyes or under eye bags that are hereditary?
What can you use for discoloration on the upper eye lids? I have sensitive skin with no discoloration on my under eye area. But my upper lids have like a red/brown discoloration on the lid and a little above the lid area.
Vitamine C, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, tranexamic acid, liquorice root extract and purposely eye formulated retinols. All of these help against hyperpigmentation (brown). For the redness, caffeine is good.
