Can You Weld With 300 - 9 Volt Batteries? 

"So I went out, I got a couple nine volt batteries." "I got 300 batteries." Tyler's the kind of guy I'd love to get a beer with.

This is the quality content I had no idea that I needed.

Here's my recommendation: Use 7 batteries in series, 42 groups in parallel (to use your existing batteries, 294 of them). This should be the perfect balance of voltage and current for small stick welding. Use jumper cables between the battery and the workpiece; those thin wires you have are only good for intermediate connections, but will melt for sure if you try to pass the full welding current through them. Keep a steady hand, you want to scratch the surface to start the arc, then keep it very close, but not touching. Some electrodes allow you to rest the electrode on the edge of its coat which makes keeping the distance easier. Put some non-flammable sheet under the piece or you will ruin your table. And be sure to wear long sleeves and gloves, that UV will give you a nasty sunburn!

You need amperage, welders aren't all that high in voltage

If you want to weld with the batteries, they need to be in parallel, not in series. It may not make sense, but 300 9V batteries in series actually has the same maximum current as a single one. In parallel, however, they can work together. It would also set your house on fire.

I can only imagine the conversations in this guy's house when he's making videos. "Where's Tyler?" "Oh he's in the garage, he bought 300 9v batteries and he's trying to weld..." 😆

Welding is based off of amperage not voltage. You were too far above the metal your first few tries, you were just creating an arc burning the flux off of the rod. Also, arc (stick) welding thin tubing isn't the best idea. It'll work better with flat stock mild steel. Just a few tips from a welder. I'd love to see another homemade welder video from you. P.s. nice harbor freight helmet, had the same one in highschool.

I think that you might actaully be able to weld with 9 volts, if you arrange them correctly. You arranged them in a series which in creases the voltage, so the kind of power your output is 9v x 300(batteries) = 2700v and 500 mili ampers. When welding you need a high amperage and not so many volts so if you arranged the batteries in parallel your new power output would be 500mA x 300 = 150000mA and 9v (or 150A at 9V). That would bring you up to the amount of ampers you need but im not sure if 9V would be enough. Still love the video though, would love to see a follow up in a parallel setup of batteries

use them ground with ground and postive with positive to increase the amper instead of voltage so you can weld :) try with 3000 farad super capacitors

When he started putting those batteries together the music brought me back to my childhood. I may be in my early 20's but man this kind of music brings me back.

When I did a stint in prison we use to take a piece of paper and roll up 4 AA batteries in series and hook the negative end to a 110 volt neutral line and hook the positive to a wire and dip it down in a cup of saltwater, then take the hot line from the 110 outlet and dip it in the saltwater mixture across from the other wire. It “kinda recharged” the alkaline cells a little bit, definitely good enough to run a Sony handheld radio all night. You could do that about 3 or 4 times before the batteries wouldn’t hold the charge long enough to make it worth hooking everything up. At the price of 6 bucks for 2 batteries we came up with some wild shit bro. 😂

For your fan, I think the motor was setup with a capacitor and when you put that large amount of voltage through it, it popped and opened your circuit

I've had a 9v blow up in my face with just its own power. They have 6 cell on the inside and I somehow managed to short them in a manor that made one explode.

You could weld if you connect all batteries in paralel. Because for welding you don't need voltage you need current.

I think you can do it, but you need to hook up a lot of them in parallel instead. As a start make 3 parallel sets and hook those up in series so you get 27V with a lot of current.

Welding works at around 30V and 100A. You probably have hooked the batteries all wrong. You had them hooked up in series which results in a lot of voltage and creates long arcs. But welding requires loads of current.

If you do something like this again can you also record a normal speed version of you putting all the battery’s together I would watch it
