Hi Jerry I don’t suppose I’m the only one, but got my Harley Sportster 1200 out for the second time this year, kicked down the side stand let the bike go over and you know it, the stand wasn’t locked so down went the bike me with it, right hand mirror hitting me in the face and the bike laying on my ankle, great start to the year, So sitting here leg up black eye watching your videos again, Steve

Jerry, I've been watching your videos all morning and can't say enough good things about them. I've only been riding about 3 years now but the things I learned in the MSF course and the things you are teaching are invaluable and I hope to remember and APPLY them whenever I'm riding. Keep up the great work!

Hey Jerry (and anyone who else who wants to chime in), I'm practicing the physical aspect of riding more and more, and getting more confident each time out. My skill level is probably intermediate, if I'm being honest. With that said, I keep finding myself doing stupid s*** that could land me in trouble. Most of this seems to be exiting driveways of gas stations, or other businesses. For example this morning, I left the house, did and extremely slow friction-zone ride through my neighborhood, went to a parking lot, practiced some turns for a bit, then headed off to Walgreens to pick up a few things. The ride from house to there was all good. When I left Walgreens I was approaching the exit driveway and wanted to turn right. There was an SUV approaching from the left with his right blinker on, so I'm thinking he's turning right (first mistake on my part). So, I didn't come to a complete stop, and was planning on making the right without stopping. Big shock, the driver decided not to turn into Walgreens and went straight. This made me stop in a hurry, and I actually grabbed the front brake - at least I had the bike straight - but then after the car passed and it was ok for me to go, I kind of went into freak out mode and gassed the bike, took off and almost went into the other lane. Luckily it all turned out fine, but everything about that was just terrible, I didn't execute anything well in that situation. SO, aside from needing to practice my slow riding more, do you have any tips for the mental aspect of riding? I'm also telling myself to chill out a lot, my brain is doing this thing of "You're going to hold up traffic, go!" I'm guessing this will also come with more experience, but I'm just curious about perhaps some mental things to keep in mind in addition to being able to handle the bike proficiently. Thanks!

Matt Garrett I’ve been there myself, uneasy feeling for sure, ha, I wrecked my 65 gto by pulling out in front of someone with his right blinker on that didn’t turn, glad I wasn’t on a bike then.. “my mistake for sure “

I’m just some guy so please take this with a grain of salt. I have been riding on and off for 40yrs with close to 200k miles on 2 wheels and consider myself a beginner, and always will. It keeps my ego in check and reminds me that I still have a lot to learn, that’s why I’m here, that’s why you’re here. Never stop learning/practicing. You recognize your shortcomings, you’re on the right path. Always remember that everyone else on the road is trying to kill you! Not might, not could, WILL!! It’s their job! It’s your job to not give them the opportunity. Good luck, have fun and be safe.

Hey Jerry, love your vids. Do you have any affiliates in Australia??? I've been riding for like 45+ years, but still gain some benefit in your videos, and think it would be great to run the course. A tiny bit hard as our distance measures are slightly different to US measures, (parking spaces) but try to get as close as I can whenever I get a chance. (and I've yet to see a parking lot as empty as yours there though) . Anyhoo, enjoy your commentary and have a giggle at quite a few moments. Living in southern Queensland is a bit similar to northern Florida as far as climate goes, but we have many hills and ranges. Always look forward to your fresh content. Good work.

Unfortunately i had to learn to ride a motorcycle just by myself and did not have a chance to get a proper riding course. I can say that 14 years ago when i started riding i learned Counter steering but nobody told me that i can not use Counter steering under 30 km/h speed.! So while slow speed riding and making turns i instinctly dont turn the bar to the direction i want to turn but try to push the var just like making counter steering. As you can guess i cant lean the bike and mess it up. 😬 i know i must practice much more but iş there a specific tip you can give me about this situation?

It is much easier to maneuver my 72 FLH police special for me because the throttle stays where you put it and I can keep it above idle while my 02 FLSTC has a rebounding throttle I dislike. Take you hand off it and it pops closed and you lose your RPM's. This is the first bike i had with a rebounding throttle and i can see it may be safer but Harley had the old throttle for 70 years as did Indian without issues..

On My Honda shadow spirit Previous owner put on one size bigger front tire 110-80/19 to 110-90/19. Seems to me it’s hard to initiate turns and the handle bars wants to pull out of my hands . You think the bigger tire causing the problems. It’s big for being one size bigger
@motorman857

Yes the bigger tire could be the problem.
