- This game kinda gets lost in the shuffle because it happened so long ago, it was a semfinal matchup, BUT this definitely was one of the best international games EVER played. :-)
Roberto Luongo was insane at Florida the first time but got 0 press. The fact is this guy should have EASILY won the Vezina in 2004 and 2007. He was by far the best goalie in the world from 2004-2010 in my view.
I remember watching this when I was 12, screaming at the TV and flopping in and out of my seat like a freaking fish out of water. What a game this was! Still remember that feeling
I remember this game. Canada was completly OWNED by the czechs. They were lucky they won and could then beat Finland in the final, in a much easier game.
This was one awesome game. The Czech's have always played Canada well, for over 50 years now. This team came into Toronto and took our (Canada's) own hard hitting, get the puck deep mentality and almost beat us. This game was so good, made the final vs Finland seem boring.
Agreed. I saw this match at the ACC as part of my 17th birthday and I will never forget it. The Czechs had such a formidable team and showed a lot of resolve in coming back numerous times against Canada. Classic match!
lecavailer definitely didnt deserve the penalty he got that gave the czechs the tieing power play goal, but he got his redemtion in the overtime. extremely exciting game of hockey, possibly the best ive ever seen. I will always fear and respect the czech hockey team. seems like 90% of chechs in the NHL are the underappreciated and underrated players and when you put a team of those kind of players togteher, they sure show you something. looking forward to world championships :)
The main thing at that time was the players' psyche. The Czech head coach died due to a car accident only about two weeks before the beginning of the WC. The players were shocked completely and they weren't able to play at all. I really would like to know what they said to each other in the break between the 2nd and 3rd period of the game against Sweden. Because suddenly they played so well what nobody had a chance. If they had come to the final, they would have won. For sure.
