I grew up in Eureka mt I've lived in Kalispell the last 18yrs, summer before last, I rode from my house in Kalispell up to my parents house in Eureka and back. Beginning of last summer I was hit by a pickup, injured my shoulder so I was done riding for a year til my shoulder healed. But been riding again this summer just about every day. Shoulder still gets pretty sore but tolerable.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention how slick the mud was at the wall. It would be non-trivial even without the bike. It’s fun reliving this year’s Tour Divide through your videos. Canada and northern Montana were my favorite parts of the ride I think. Seems like such a long time ago already and it hasn’t even been two months since the start! Wild!
I don’t know I’m in Florida and we’re currently melting in the heat I only ride my bike before sunrise and just before sunset 😂 it’s so humid it’s like breathing through mud
Ryan that just looks brutal! The cold, the mud, the snow, the hike a bike, truly a test of one's metal. I did one motorcycle ride, to Anchorage AK from nor cal, which was great going north. Coming home was a solo effort, and it rained from Anchorage to Weed CA. Over 6 days of hard sideways rain. Hydroplaning on the hiway next to motorhomes? That was me. Riding thru a mudslide that wouldnt stop with boulders bouncing across the road? That was me. Tipping a fully loaded BMW 1150 over in clay on pavement? Yup. It got to be fun after a while, see just how wet I could get, couldnt camp after a while the wind blew so hard rain came into the tent under the flaps. A very memorable trip.
@@duzer Then there was hitting a cow in Nevada at 55mph and sailing 60' over the handlebars, and riding 80 miles the next day. Ive got more crazy near death stories than I really should....always on 2 wheels.
Good job! I'm thinking I'd be doing the wall twice. Once to carry my stuff and then again to drag my unloaded bike! Despite that it would indeed be a dream. There is nothing that evokes my gratitude for a hot shower like a day of cycling in the could and wet.
Beautiful... I love when it just barely snows and you get that magic wonderland but you're still riding on mud. However, I then go home and put on the fireplace
You sir are a monster. Wow. Ive done lots of hard things and i know i could not do that. Amazing. Nothing to be ashamed of. Your comments on the silent fresh snow are spot on. I love taking walks after big snows.
This year at ragbrai was my redemption from last years fiasco’s and it was hard I’m still not as able as I’d like to be on the bike but I’m getting better But when I was riding by myself on the last couple of days and my legs and butt were absolutely killing me I kept telling myself if Ryan did 600 miles in 6 days off road then I would ride every single mile of ragbrai this year and not get on the sag wagon and it worked
I just got back from riding mountainbike in Ecuador and Cusco, Peru. I love the Andes. You need to go to South America again. My bikes Quechua name is Amaru, she stays in Cuenca , Ecuador. The Sacred Valley in Peru is amazing riding . It was cold at night , and high altitude but still fun times.
I can identify with the Aussie who broke several ribs . I did the same 10 months ago in a mountain bike race on a pedal strike. It led to a a pulmonary embolism which could have taken me out . I just got off blood thinners for the embolism. I returned to riding 5 months after the crash but I have toned down my speed and my race days maybe come to a close . So life can get tough but it always can be worse
The mud would bother me more than anything else, even more than the cold, snow, rain, hike a bike, etc. I'll ride miles out of my way to avoid one mud hole or getting my feet wet.
So.. did you mic up these other riders? your sound while talking to them is really good. I just got done editing a bike ride video and I ended up cutting out almost all the vocals. what's your trick?
@@duzer good job then. I get ok sound from my gopro12 creator edition... but I would expect the guys riding next to you sound like poo. I'll have to experiment, I guess, if I do more videos on the bike. Great Content!
I mean after living and working in da woods for years i got tired of dooking in da woods all da time. I mean a day or 2 would be ok to rough it. But i fell on some rocks on my butt from about 20 feet up and injured my self giving me internal hemroids and could not get to a clinic for days. i had to have surgery to remove them and dooking in da woods did not help matters. I got over it but ever since then i don't l;ike having to go#2 in da woods. You see ya'll make all deez videos look so glamorous and fun. Ya'll don't talk about haveing to go #2 in da woods in 20 degree weather. yeah glad you enjoy roughing it i like that. i get plenty of exercise riding my bike and lifting weights. I don't need to challenge my self in those kind of elements. the only way i would do what your doing is getting paid for it, and i suppose you do get paid for it through your youtube channel. best of luck , thanks for sharing.
so let me get this straight, Dude fell off his bike and broke 6 rib,And now he's back out there putting him self in those conditions again. I mean looks like he would have learned his lesson. Man, i have broken ribs before when i got thrown out of a truck onto the hwy doing 60mph. I and all i was wearing was a tank top and i fell on rough gravel asphault road. i got all skint up and was in da hospital for 3 days. ever since then i never ride in the back of trucks. While i am at it, i know rayn you have hiked up longs peak before because i watched your video on it. folks die up there every year doing it. 1 slip up and your gone. I love adventure but i would never do that hike. I mean i could do it phyisaclly, but its to dangerous. I mean after being run over on my bike by a car and thrown out of trucks, i don't take unnessary chances just for a thrill.I hope the guy does not fall off his bike this time.I mean this kind of race is stupid to put yourself in those kind of conditions. And then when folks get into trouble they have to call rescue for help costing thousands of dollars all for just to say you did it. who cares man!! take a look a that 20 year old girl who died on half dome in yosemitie national park last week. fell off the cables and slid down the maountain to her death in front of the daddy!! the girl should not even have been up there. now she;s dead for making a bad decision . look at dat man 2 days ago who fell off the rim at da grand canyon taking a selfie. he was not being careful enough. I use to work at the grand canyon, and i saw a lot of people doing stupid stuff putting there life on the line for the perfect selfie picture. stupid is/ is stipid does!! sorry for the rant rayn !! just get so tired of folks doing dumb stuff. that man that broke his ribs on da trail should not even be attemping that again.
People fall and break their bones going to the kitchen or bathroom at home. I think it all depends on how he fell and broke his ribs. People should learn to not go beyond their abilities, but that doesn't mean no one should go out and attempts these trips. Just be prepared and don't end up a fool
Funny...every time I wake up and scour my phone and see a new ryan van duzer video has dropped, it feels a bit like I just got a xmas present. Of course, I move to my larger computer screen to watch it. As I watch you struggle through the brush, I tell myself that I would like to do that, but the reality is, I probably couldn't. Oh well, I love following you along your journey of life. Thank you for enriching mine!
Hey dude sending love from the uk. It’s new bike day today for me after my last one was stolen and it’s taken me years to save up but I pick up this evening. Wanted to send my love to you as wouldn’t be possible without your videos that spur me on every time I watch them. Take care and safe travels
I remember doing “The Wall”…Had to take the bags off and carry them up, then take the bike. Back then, I was riding a Surly ECR, a heavy steel bike, but I still think my 600X is heavier. No plans to do that again!
Hi Ryan, I would love to buy your book but shipping to Europe (Poland) is an absolute killer. The shipping alone costs $32.53. Is there a way to have this lower? Maybe on Amazon or eBay or something.
Watching you climb The Wall right now takes me back! My bike was too heavy to push up. I had to take off my panniers and food bag and carry those up, then go back and get my big Salsa Mukluk and push it up. The trail was wet and muddy then too. I got to the first flat overlook and thought I had made it😅! I was missing my dog and my wife, and generally feeling low. I literally sat down and cried. Then I found I wasn’t even at the top! Haha! I would do it all over again if I could take the time off from work. Starting the Eastern Divide, Section 3 tomorrow. 4-5 consecutive days of rain in the forecast. Why do we do this again ??? Oh yeah, because it’s awesome!😊 And you’re awesome! Love the adventure! Happy Trails
I checked the gear list but didn’t see the aero bars you have on your bike. They look comfortable. Would love to check them out to see if the fit in my bike.
Damn! I want more episodes...would have loved to see what would have happened if you recalibrated to 50 days and took a week off and slowed your roll. Woulda been a great journey to watch. Duzer Tour Divide '25! You can do it buddy. @dontsquanderwander 💪🏻
