Yes the international schools are really unaffordable for most people. So sorry to hear that it is very difficult for foreigners to get their children into local schools. It must be tough to be living separately from his family. I will be sure to feedback to my MP that we should make it easier for foreigners to put their children in local schools if we want to attract more talents

Lived in Singapore for 5yrs, left last year... Couple of reasons House rent crises, my house rent of my 1 bedroom condo was increased from 2.5k was pushed to 4.6k, which was hilarious as I dont live in central part, infact i lived in the east (far from central or being referred to central) Impossible to buy a home (well can't complain, I'm a forgiener if they make it possible then many houses will be purchased by people who don't live in Singapore), 5C culture, tried to meet few girls and was openly asked how many C's i have 😂 (ability to rent a condo and use ride hailing services are not counted... so 2 no's of C's are gone) Being as a expat, No access to CPF, so few options to save tax.... well CPF is amazing but limited to locals and PR's Expensive schooling, well i didn't experience it, but in future i could when i plan to have a family Some things which i miss about Singapore: Safe environment, Hawker culture, which is fast, efficient and affordable Efficient transport, Air connectivity to almost every major part of the world, Stable currency, Zero tolerance on nonsense, I literally liked it... i love of follow rules and maintain discipline.... on this aspect, Singapore stands out as well. To conclude, there are always pro's and con's... Life in Singapore is good for high earning individuals but a nightmare if you are not. When you the lot of money, its the best part in the world you can live, as currency is stable, safer environment, good returns on investment

Singapore hasn't offered citizenship since the 00s, if you want it you gotta apply it manually. With the amount of years you've been in Singapore, yours will be approved fast. I have several caucasian friends who have been here for decades, they had that same mindset where "not offered = Singapore don't want me" until I told them about this. Plus if your PR renewal is 5 years, it's practically a guarantee. They applied and their application took a mere 2 months to be approved.

Medical care for Sg is actually very affordable. If you’re hospitalized, Sgp gets 80% subsidy from the govt. MediShield or private insurance pays for another major part of the bill. Medisave pays a tiny bit of the balance. Almost no cash is required. Housing for locals are also very affordable. BTO takes care of that

I am amazed how well, in depth and correct this Canadian expat guy knows about Singapore and Singaporeans, i am surprised that alot of Singaporeans work 2 jobs, i reckon our PAP government don't even know this

Most foreigners prefer to rent a house, while local Singaporeans prefer to own their own house. Houses in Singapore are expensive, mainly for houses bought and sold on the open market. It is relatively cheap for local Singaporeans to apply for HDB for the first time. According to statistics from the Urban Land Institute's "2023 ULI Asia-Pacific Residential Accessibility Index Report", 89.3% of people in Singapore own their own homes, and the overall national homeownership rate is the highest in the Asia-Pacific; and the average mortgage and property taxes that Singaporeans need to pay every year , which is also lower than many cities in the Asia-Pacific region.

5:05 That experience with the Police officer happned to me MULTIPLE times in California. But much worse my last time before our company rolled up our sleeves and sent everyone on a flight back home. Folks, my family had more than a 100 million dollars of property and investments. I served 8 grueling years in the USN and 6 of those as a Submariner, with multiple presidential awards for my service, then medically retired due to multiple TBI's. (Brain Injuries). I never let that get me down and kept working hard to make money to support Women that were disloyal, and raised 3 children that were not my own. I have ZERO criminal record. Zero Felonies. The worst I ever got was a speeding ticket. The way hard working, honest men are treated in the west by our own Government and Police is an absolute mockery of the justice system. I was injured so badly, I had to change careers. And I was AT WORK. Lucker then the other guy, he got his arm crushed by a police car. Then the officer pointed a gun at him??? Then us as our supervisor went to go find out what the large bang behind the Building was we were installing cameras on. I myself was pulled out of my car, with zero instructions to do so, and slammed to the ground the second I called my Boss to to let them know I was indeed on Work property and working at the time. They broke my front tooth, they dragged me so hard, my shoes came off, and then made me walk THROUGH GLASS. The worst of it was the Jail. 4 days and no charges. But the first 26 hours, they kept me chained to a chair. Refused to let me use the bathroom to urinate unless I signed some waiver. Then refused to let me take a shower or give me soap so I could wash my hands so I could eat any food for my 4 days I was there. Then as I found out how to use the phone system and tried to call Veterans service, as its the only number listed? The former "Marine" guard called his sargent and then next thing I know, before I can make a call, they call me back to my cell then dischaqrge me. I ask for a Greivnce form , and hey rip it out of my hand and tell me if I ask for anything else, they are going to throw me back in jail. When I asked the front desk on the other side to call me an Ambulance as I was still bleeding from my feet with no shoes? They *REFUSED TO DO SO* ! I also did not have my own cell phone as they left all of that in my car. This was in San Jose California in 2017. I filed a complaint and it took them over 7 months to get back to me the morning I got out of jail . They REFUSED to take my complaint and send come back during Business hours. Then they refused to give me back my Work van. If it had not been for the Vet that owned the lot, I would have not been able to get my car out. How did I do that? I had to BUY my WORK VAN from them being the ONLY legal way I could get my van out of impound. After this incident? I had one More as I was asked to take care of Mcdonalds on my way out. I was called a GAY by a police officer as the others laughed about it, made fun of for being gay since I was on a submarine, then taken out of my car again at gunpoint, and then when they found out I had a contract order to be there? They left. Then they told me "Your lucky we let you go with an expired licence". I had my paperwork right there in my briefcase along with my Company's official documents sighting that I am valid on my Licence, along with a Notarized copy sent to me by the DMV saying that I was current and legal to drive with ZERO suspension or anything on my record, and they left when I asked them for their badge numbers and got worried about having their voices caught on the McDonalds CCTV cams. Did I go an make a complaint this time? No. My hands were already injured to the point I could not feel them anymore on my wrists and felt numb. Fuck it. I called my Team lead and let them know what happned and let them know I'm leaving. They did not even bother asking for the gear to be dropped off at a FedEx as we were required to do. --"Just get home " was his response. --"We are flying everyone else home due to the incident at the other site ". I spent that day in one of the Hotels my family owns, and left when I got some feeling back in my hands. I have never been back to California since. And as of last year? Almost every single investment of property or Business has been pulled out California by our family stating the same sort of horrible problems you have heard about over the last few years. My company refused to do business in California due to all the issues they had while working night crews, and stated Safety concerns of our staff and team. Going as far as having to hire PRIVATE armed security when we were working on a job site. Strangely enough? They TOO were injured on one occasion by Police. Imagine THAT! I'm 45 now. After my youngest son graduates school, I'm leaving CONUS and NEVER looking back! If you have ANY sort of drive, and skillset? MOVE to Asia. Don't even bother with the falsehoods of a Pay Cut. Add up how good your life is in an Asian country as a Western man and you will never look back. Like go be Chivalrous? Enjoy helping out the community where you live? Love to help out and volunteer your time and effort or skill sets to teens and adults alike? Want to learn new hobbies or skills yourself? How about being Valued not just by people around you, but the very government in the country you are residing in? THIS is the experience from EVERYONE I have known that has become an Expat looking for simply a better life outside of the West. All the scare tactics about it being worse is Malarkey! I don't give a hoot about protesting or drawing photos or having to not chew gum or [SENSORED] rights. NOT MY PROBLEM! Not my rodeo. And about Singapore? Housing is expensive compared to other parts of Asia. Come from a Big Metro city ? You will think you are getting a bargain. Also? Johor Bahru (Malaysia) just across the Bridge has a TINY cost of living and it's only 10- 25 mile trip from anywhere in Singapore. The airport is only 40 miles away . Most people drive that just to work in states or MUCH more if California. You could live in Malaysia for less than $300 a month if you live out of town. Less if your like most Hermit Western men where if you can live in a hole in the wall or rent a room in a house with exchange you do a few chores or just happen to be your Normal Western man self? TONS of single older but drop dead less than a bag of concrete women would LOVE to have you stay over. And if you checked out Mighty Car Mods? Malaysia is AMAZING for Car culture. Hell, just about anywhere you go as a western man in Asia (NOT U INDIA!) you will love it there. I have freinds that live all over Asia and even Russia. It's a complete shock to what you are told to what you see and experience when you get there. Like Tuckers Russia video. Notice all the people going "But did you go here" Yes he did. Loved it. Same for you gents. Just don't be a Western Idiot there. You are a guest. Make us look bad and I swear WE will make you swim back ! Don't worry about the money or pay. WORRY about the quality of your life. If you can make it in America? You can make it anywhere. Unless you like welfare and Handouts. Stay in the West. If you are ready to retire? Mexico or any cheaper place in south america is wonderful. Unless you have some rare or serious Medical issue or take Gender Bender drugs, its fine. And about the medical care? Its CHEAP compared to the West. No waiting for months. Its first rate as well, despite what they tell you on the MSM, espeically in Asia. Asians don't like to be outdone, so think Japan but everywhere. Lastly? Keep your pecker in your pants. You want to be a degenerate? Stay in America where you belong with your Best Buddies.

As a Canadian in Singapore for 16 yrs with 2 boys who will soon do NS I believe Singapore gets it right but need to start thinking of affordable healthcare for retirees who are mostly asset rich but cash poor. Also loosen up a bit lah with work culture, have more park space for kids. Overall I love ❤️ The little red dot.

Singapore is a tiny country even for it's own citizens and if many foreigners are attracted to Singapore (push - unsafe homeland; pull - SG's low crime, work opp etc.) and want to migrate, makes sense to have some controls (e.g. high expenses) to preserve the current SG quality & way of life that is so highly attractive in the first place.

The guys a Doctor of course he’s going to be successful. For a regular Joe it’s much different.

I don't understand the part about how he can't afford for his children to go to school in singapore because it's nearly impossible for them to get into government schools. From what i understand, PRs can get into government schools just as easily as citizens, and their school fees are still heavily subsidised, although not as much as those of citizens. The thing about it being nearly impossible for expats to get into government schools and having to pay full price if they somehow manage to get in only applies to people with employment pass and other such things and don't apply to PR.

Being a small island, with minimum natural landscapes & scenery, Sg oftens get ridiculed. Sg just perseveres, and Majulah 😊 Other Asean countries should learn from Sg how she brings races together.

My advice to everyone is this : if you want to grow big this year especially in your finances. Be willing to make investments. Saving is great but investing puts you on a pedestal where you wouldnt have to worry about savings as you do now. Thanks to larysa Caba, my portolio is doing really great and im proud of the decisions i made last year.

So spot on! Low birth rate? It's so expensive here, it's not cheap raising a child and housing? That's on another level! And medisave? I am worried about mine as I have chronic illnesses sigh healthcare financial help needs to improve here honestly

Singapore might like to consider adjusting medi-save to incorporate a co-pay universal healthcare system. Just like an insurance scheme, not everyone will need their medi-save but unlike an insurance scheme some people will run out. Pool it together, look after everyone and the social wellbeing cost will help the entire country. Overall, SG gets most things right and will continue to improve. This was a good interview, I like Brian.

Quick fact check: on an immediate web search, a case of one single individual was arrested over 40 times immediately came up...how many other significant repeat offenders?? So I correct the statement of "over 400 arrests for 2 individuals"..4 arrests..40 arrests..400 arrests for ONE individual...it hardly matters... The point is that "a significant amount of Emergency and Law Enforcement essential services are being utilized by a small percentage of individuals who do not in any manner contribute or support to society, and that they over-whelm the delivery capacities of the Medical and Legal systems, thereby depriving access to law-abiding, tax-paying citizens". According to a 2023 Federal Health Canada publication "Federal Actions on the Overdose Crisis", there were 2342 Over-dose related deaths in Vancouver alone in 2022, and that since 2016 there has been over 40,000 drug OD deaths (53,000 Hospitalizations and 271,000 related Medical Referrals) in Canada...to put this in context, during 1965-1973 Vietnam War, the same eight year time span, there were 58,209 US military deaths (with every possible lethal technology being deployed to kill the enemy)...to any nay-sayers or individuals stating I am exaggerating about the situation, these direct Government statistics completely support all my statements...try riding with the Ambulance or Police services for a shift or two and stop being "key-board warriors" full of untested opinion.

Singapore is a safe country

I've been to Singapore several times and for reasonably extended stays. I live in Canada, right downtown in Toronto, and I've visited Vancouver many times. So, I'm very familiar with life in Canada and somewhat familiar with life in Singapore. As far as his comments on Canada go, these are over the top exaggerations. Yes, there is crime in Canada and it has a serious drug problem, but I can walk anywhere in Toronto (and do so regularly) without fear and I have never been robbed or threatened. Vancouver is also quite safe with perhaps Hastings St. being an area to avoid (Granville can also be rough in parts) because of the addicts. Singapore is a lovely place. I always enjoy my time there and I'm looking forward to return. But Singapore is a much smaller and a much more homogeneous place than Canada so it is really comparing an apple to an orange. It is also somewhat less free than Canada in terms of what kinds of behavior are tolerated. I don't have any problems with conforming to Singapore's standards but frankly I think they are too harsh in some respects. For example, at the extreme end, both the death penalty and caning are really not things that a modern, civilized country should participate in. In any case, my verdict is that both Canada and Singapore are wonderful places yet both have aspects that could be improved.
