Hornets were from 425 "Alouette" Squadron out of Bagotville, Quebec. If they used call sign though, these jets may have been borrowed by 433 "Ti-Pic/Porcupine" Squdaron, also in Bagotville. CC-150 was assigned to 437 "Husky" Transport Squadron.

The comment about being embarrassed is an uninformed comment which is a half truth at best. I'm restating what you said. I'm incredibly proud of CF Members, those who fly the CF-188 and those who maintain her. In Canada we celebrate getting new equipment including the coming of the F-35a Block IV. Our aircrews are in a better position for war because they can work with any kind and condition of equipment. Not just the new stuff. Kudos to the RCAF from a proud Canadian.

Canada’s fighters are mostly used for NORAD northern reconnaissance to chase Russian Bear Aircraft back across the pole. The F35 is a single engine aircraft. The F18 may be old but if I was flying up north and have an engine flame out I’d kinda like to have two engines, just say’n

I'm on the same page with you David. Some CF-188 are scheduled for another upgrade with new radars and other things. We will be seeing these flying along with the new CF-355's for some time I think. Just guessing on the CF-355 designation based on the CF-188 designation. I think Canada needs a Northern interceptor as well as fighter jets long run. Sad that Boeing cannot say they are sorry. At some point a twin engine interceptor makes a lot of sense. A little part of me wonders about a new up to date version of the CF-100 Canuck with swept wings and lots of power for northern duty. Probably just romantic old me.

The F-35's engine will do just fine. It's the best fighter engine right now, extremely reliable as well. This notion that we need a two-engined fighter has been rebuked time and again. Best choice Canada made was the F-35.

@@maryrafuse3851 The transition plan for the F-35 is that one squadron at a time will be stood down, and transition to the new jet. Basically, the last Hornets should be retired by 2030. As far as a "northern interceptor", interceptors are really a bygone era...everything now is multi-role now. Pure interceptors went away when they retired jets like the CF-101. That said, the F-35 will serve Canada well in the north...it's sensor suite alone will ensure that we have a better picture of our territory. Link that with F-35s from Alaska and Dutch F-35s operating from Thule Greenland eventually, the north will be well covered. The engine argument has also been rendered moot by the F-135 engine....it's the most advance and reliable fighter engine out there.

@@yxeaviationphotog Jabberwoky Why are you even here?...spouting? I find it incredible that people actually come on this board pretending to have an actual clue. What does the RCAF need?.... The RCAF requires 138 interceptors...with a secondary sttike component. You? No: 1....What is an F-35?

Maximum range for a CF-18 is 3,700 Km, so I guess it's not quite enough to get over the pond from Scotland, is it?

@@mafmaf6417 I have done quite extensive research, it's from the 70s. It's beaten in every metric by the F35. We are using spare parts to keep them flying. Don't come at me with your vitriol. You are indeed "talking nonsense"

Right so Canada is the only country still flying fighters that were designed in the 70's, are we. Comparing the CF 18 to the F 35 is ridiculous.
