ONE CANADIAN FRIEND, ONE FILIPINA, AND A BIG ROAD TRIP UP TO NORTHERN SAMAR!
This video starts in Tacloban City. I was a part of Typhoon Yolanda relief work ten years ago, and went back to spend an evening at the "Gratitude Gathering" with some friends from the city. Tacloban will always have a special place in my heart... and I am forever inspired by the people who I worked side by side with... the survivors of the storm. From Tacloban, we take the bumpy road north. A quick stop in Catbalogan City at Tony's for some delicious food, and then we find ourselves rolling into the port town of Allen.

Thanks for the road trip vid to Samar and the respect for the people who survived Yolanda which devastated the region.My wife's family is in Guiuan and we gathered goods from people here and sent six boxes of aid directly to her family to hand out in the community.We have since then visited every year and 5 years ago built our home there to hopefully retire soon there!If you get a chance, go visit Guiuan and Calicoan to see the amazing recovery and growth in the area since Yolanda.Much respect to you my fellow Canadian!

My wife grew up in Allen and we visit from the US often. So nice to see your trip through her town. We really enjoyed your other video where you travel down the Eastern side of the Island. That's a trip we will have to make! We finished building our home and will be relocating in a couple years back to the islands. If you come through there again our door is open to you!

We Filipinos are resilient. Any hardship and challenges, we face it head on. It's tough, but we don't forget to enjoy the journey of overcoming the hurdle as our elders say "pag may tiyaga, may nilaga" simply saying the rewards will be great to those who has patience and determination. Now as Filipino, I know you will get infected by Filipino resilience - it's contagious. More power to you Kulas and team!

Was that really ten years ago!...here in the north we never had a breathe of wind so the contrast was shocking....typhoons are the biggest threat to my tiny house, been lucky so far ✌️

I remember going to that airport and going from Tacloban to Samar seeing a Jesus statue. 😍The roads were really rough though. My dad's family lives in Gandara!

I visited Tacloban City to attend a fiesta many, many years before it was hit by Typhoon Yolanda. As I was left alone in the house, I decided to go to roam Tacloban City just walking to every nook and corner and then bought 2 kilos of fish at a nearby coastal seafood market before going home. It was the first time for me to experience a singing fish vendor and a kilo of fish was so cheap and so fresh. I also visited Palo, Leyte, and went to the Gen. Douglas McArthur et al monument atop a hill and took a swim at Red Beach where I got bitten by minute sea creatures. I also took at a costal town, yhe name I can't remember together with Leyte friends.😢

Kulas thanks for visiting my hometown Allen again i miss my childhood playground the Balwarteco port where i used to swim and the neighboring homes near mamori hotel ,the old 2 story pink colored house used to be our ancestral home and now owned by the Gutays next door .thanks for taking the beautiful areal views of my hometown. Next time please visit the beautiful white sand seaside and rock formations of Baranggay Cabacungan of Allen ❤

Try to go North Luzon Loop in Luzon. The majestic Ilocos to Cagayan... Visit sta. Ana Cagayan and port Irene..down to Isabela, Palanan down to Aurora province will be a nice Ride. You and Bret will be awesome

That's where my parents' hometown, my mother, born in Factoria( municipality) Oras Eastern Samar, and my father in Sta. Monica, Oras Eastern Samar( it's an island), no need cars, just bicycle and boat's or motorboats.
