I totally agree with the border thing. As a teenager I was going to a hockey tournament in Pittsburgh and when we got to the border crossing they asked our intentions in America and we told them. They then asked what we had with us and when we told them hockey bags they got all suspicious and started questioning us. When we held tight to our story/the truth and they finally relented, they said they were just being cautious as we could be smuggling six Mexicans in our hockey bags. Like yea, the Mexicans made it through the States, into Canada, and then were like "nope, too cold, let's go back to the States via a child's hockey bag."

Yeap, 14 years ago my Mom , brother and I went on a trip, and my Mom lost her passport, but had 4 or 5 other pieces of ID, while my brother and I had everything. This was before the passport laws. On the way in it was fine, but on the way back with the Canadian guard it was a battle, he didn't want to let us back in, even though he had proof that my Mom was a citizen and had been there since 86 and my brother and I were born there and had Birth certificates, health cards, passports, etc. eventually they decided to let us in after conferring. Just to put it into perspective, the American guard took about 10 seconds reviewing us and wished us a great time and let us through without worry or hesitation. I can only imagine it is worse now.

This guy is telling the truth. I was trying to go visit my cousin in america, but at the border I didn't have my passport. I actually forgot it at home and when I told them that they took us somewhere. Don't know where but it was only us and a whole bunch of police with guns. We were only four people there was like ten of them. On the way back to canada I did not have that problem. It took them 2 seconds and then they let me go in.

"pull over here".. they gutted his fucking truck, threw all the seats and cushions on the ground. cut up his seats looking for drugs. didnt find shit. basically ruined his trucks interior.. -- we'd come back from canada all fucked up.. hung over, passed out.. and we'd have to respond to the border agents with where are we from.. we'd have mustard and ketchup all over our faces from eating hotdogs we bought from street vendors trying to sober up.. .and we'd just grumble out our citizenship. they'd let us right back into the usa. no questions asked about the mustard and shit on our faces... my friend literally had mustard all up in his nose and it was just hilarious because we'd just answer and pass back out. luckily our friend was driving and would be sober. man. we did some stupid shit.... we'd always get threatened if one of us wouldnt wake up from being passed out.. but they'd be patient until our friends hit us enough to wake us up to answer the citizenship question.

To get into Albania, we had to bribe the guards, to get into croatia was just a normal border exchange, and then I didn’t know whether I was in in Austria or Germany for three hours at one point. Then to get into England I had to show proof of purchase for my hotel, proof I was a student, tell them what my job was, and show them an itinerary (so it was lucky I made a rough one up weeks before). Guys this was true about the Canadian border back in the day, like the 1980's, 1990's. But times have really changed. Now if anything you will find the American side (depending on the person) a little less hassle. Years ago I worked a job that required me to cross the border every single day. So I would enter and exit at the same times. Most of the time I would hit the same folks. So my crossings would be "expedited" because they knew who I was. Given the added security now the last few times I have crossed have been a equal share hassle on both sides. With maybe the Canadian side being slightly worse. I can't imagine trying to cross daily now.

I don't know if you're looking in from the outside, but the indigeneous problem in Canada is an extremely complicated one. There's a lot of politicking going on from both sides of the argument, money is being allocated but it isn't getting to where it's needed, etc. It's nasty, nobody's getting what they deserve, and the whole situation isn't improving but at the same time there's tons of actors involved and not all of them want it to either. It's a shame.

+Dan [REDACTED] If you're talking about America then, yes there were a lot of problems between Americans and the natives for a while but know a days the relationship isn't that bad with most natives being full-citizens and able to freely practice whatever beliefs they have. If you're talking about Canada then, though I am not personally familiar with Canada or it's history, I have heard some interesting stories from it. Not about the natives that lived there but from those of French ancestry, I heard there is a faction in Canada that wants it to be populated only by french speaking people so if you have french speaking parents then you are forced to attend a french school.
@KayKimree
@KayKimree 6 лет назад
@@gundam2600 Almost, but not quite right. I live in the province you're talking about: Quebec. It isn't as bad as you're thinking. I'm not sure about the aboriginal situation but the thing you're talking about applies mainly to immigrants. It's called Loi 101 and basically, unless your parents have studied in English schools in Quebec all the way to high-school, everyone has to attend school in French. What it does is that it forces immigrants to send their kids to French-medium schools till the end of Highschool. Once high school is over, you can study in whatever language you prefer. A lot of immigrant kids choose to go for English-Medium Cegeps. But they can still choose to attend French-medium ones. I, for one, find that it is a useful law because, in Quebec, unless you know French, you just can't make it. This law may be controversial but, in the end, it's been more helpful than many immigrants like to admit.

The huge difference that I notice in Canada vs. America is that in Canada, if you're going to cross the road and you're a good 15 seconds away from the crosswalk, all of the cars will just.... stop. They'll wait for you and you'll do the whole 'you go' 'no you go' routine and then awkwardly jog across the road, feeling bad that you delayed about 15 cars. When I went to America maybe one car would stop for me the entire time I was walking, but all of the other cars would just keep going. Mind you I'm from the Maritimes, so out west might be different, but it was so weird to me.

I’m American and live in Michigan. People in Michigan go to Canada all the time for alcohol at the duty free, my mom went about a year ago with my little sister and they stopped to get a pie on there way back to America. @@anarchistatheist1917 Haha that's a really bad example. For one, Canada wasn't even Canada at that time. Secondly Americans fought against Amercans waaaaay more lol. A better example is Albertans who feel betrayed by the rest of Canadas ignorance and jealousy of Alberta's oil patch. Though they love Canada, they feel like they'd be treated more fairly by an American government. I'm not sure absorbing canadas richest natural resource province into the US economy is the best idea ever, but it's kinda sad that it's become something to consider.

During a lunch break from business meeting in Canada, 3 Canadians were talking trash about the U.S., in front of several Americans, including how the U.S. was "stealing all of their Weather News Meteorologists". I have noticed that Canadians know much more about the U.S. than Americans know (or care to know) about Canada. They seem to be competitive and feel inferior, and will say things about what Canadians have invented and which celebrities are Canadian. It's so strange. So much for the theory that Canadians are so nice! By the way, as an American, I know that our country is a mess in many ways and that no country is perfect. I'm just being honest about my observations and personal experience.

In most cases, they come right out of the box with it, “well, unlike our neighbors to the south…“ And then usually some bullshit about guns or free healthcare that has been regurgitated at least 50 billion times That Bit about crossing the Canadian border into Canada is completel BS. My wife was driving to her cousins wedding in Vancouver and the Canadian border patrol were merciless with her to the point she was crying. She was armed with a suitcase full of clothing and a camera. They were telling her her documents were fake, and she was not a Canadian citizen, she was only coming to take Canadian photographer jobs away and just totally beating her down emotionally. On her trip home, she came back via Victoria on the ferry over to Port Angeles and received no hassle at all
