Yes! I found this video today…after I made a dozen patch cables yesterday with Canare cable…they didn’t work….after seeing this and opening a couple up and stripping off that little layer, they work. Thanks for helping me solve my patch cable problem!
When I was young and fairly broke, I bought a cheap cable from a local music store and they didn't strip that layer back. For several years I thought it was me that just didn't play aggressive enough to make my amp sound good... One day I plugged into a friend's amp (with his cable) and the guitar had a COMPLETELY different aggression. Lesson learned!!!
Ty Brad for sharing! That's inner conductive tape, if I put my meter on continuity setting , I get no beep with leads touching each end. Is it just a resistance issue helping the shielding? Thanks!
Continuity setting on most meters only beeps if it's below a certain threshold. On most Fluke meters, that is 100 Ohms. Put it on resistance mode for the whole story.
Brad, Thanks again! I received my GS-6 Canare cable but it has 2115 on cable instead of what you showed (2105). Is it still ok to use for guitar cable? Thanks for your time! Jim.
