It is rich of a guy lazing around on a bench smoking cigar to tell his wife about "discipline" while she is carrying his children at 8 month pregnancy which in itself is a very arduous state to be in.

A deeply insecure, paranoid, abusive man with anger issues and a fetish for guns has his entire world fall apart around him. This is not going to end well.

As a Christian man Steven is subject to Gods authority and is expected to treat his wife with love and respect, unfortunately men like him seem to conveniently forget this and distort Bible to support their views.

If you want your partner to be a stay-at-home parent, you CANNOT complain if they take half when they leave.

The fact that she doesn't have her own car says a lot about his desire to control her.

Don't forget he wasn't just telling his wife to walk the dog, he was specifically berating her because she didn't want to apply a topical medicine to their dogs because she was worried that the medicine would absorb into her skin and affect her unborn child, which is why he kept hand-waving her concerns with "just wear gloves!"

As someone who survived a relationship with someone like Crowder, this was very triggering to watch. It’s also a reminder of how risky it is for a woman to be a stay-at-home wife/mom with the wrong man. Crowder basically left her in the hospital to give birth alone, moves out of their home, buys himself a townhouse, and then proceeds to cut her off financially knowing full well she was dependent on him. Crowder is sick and I am happy that his ex got out of the relationship because men like Crowder NEVER change.

I know lots of committed conservative Christians and I know NONE who refer to ‘wifely duties’. And I’m talking about baptists, Catholics, and evangelicals. That is insane. It immediately struck me as sinful and misogynistic NOT Christian.

For anyone wondering, the surgical procedure Steven underwent was to address pectus excavatum - essentially a caved-in sternum. This has ran in my family for generations. When PE effects cardiac or respiratory output, the signs are there during adolescence and puberty and addressed immediately. My half-brother was one of the first children in the country to undergo the corrective procedure for this in the early 2000s. The procedure is invasive - it involves large incisions being made on both sides of the ribcage and implanting a metal rod to correct the deformation of the thoracic wall. If the complications of PE are as serious as Crowder described, they would've done this when he was a teenager, with an extendible rod that grew with his body as he went through puberty. If you do this as an adult for cosmetic reasons, they put a fixed titanium bar in your chest, which is what he said they did. So, yes, this surgery was 100% elective and there's pretty much zero margin for discussion on that. Pretty much everything he said was a lie and I'd go as far to contest his lung ever collapsing at any point.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how he bizarrely and emphatically said he children weren't at fault. Is there anyone alive that thought "You know who's fault it is? Those 2yo twins they had"? To me that's his subconscious saying the children *ARE* to blame.

I think the surgery he had is called "pectus deformity repair." This is the last person i would want to defend. However, my son had it when he was 7. The ribs need to be broken and removed where the connect to the sternum. The outer part is left, a steel narrow plate is put under the sternum to hold it in its proper place while the ribs grow back. He was out of school for a month, at least. But, it was an elective surgery. Everything that he said about his lung and heart capacity being diminished as a result is true. My sons reason for wanting it was because he was being teased about how his chest looked.

As someone who grew up heavily involved in an evangelical church (Southern Baptist), I think there’s a slight miss in the take from a lot of people on why Hillary stayed so long, despite Steven’s abuse. It’s clear from the video alone that she doesn’t see his behavior as normal, labeling it as abuse and calling it “sick.” Certainly plenty of the real hardcore fundamentalists might say this is how a wife should expect to be treated, but I think that’s far less common that this: That your husband abusing you is a spiritual struggle of sorts for him and that as his wife, you need to help him get through this time that is difficult for him. (Not saying this is good or better, but certainly different.) On top of that, the marriage vows are supposed to be taken so seriously. Her pleading with him to get help for his abusive behavior really just resonated with me and the upbringing I had.

Disturbingly but unsurprisingly all the men in the “manosphere” podcasts like Fresh & Fit are blaming her and defending him. I remember watching a video from him, I didn’t really know it was him at the time as I don’t follow his channel. He went on a college campus and made a table saying rape culture isn’t real, change his mind. From that one video I knew what kind of man he was . This is no surprise at all. Gaslighting women who were victimized is evidence of his character. When people tell you who they are, ladies and gentlemen, it would behoove you to believe them. Stay safe.

I remember a particularly heinous story told by a well known pastor who was visiting my church. He told this story about one of his parishioners who was particularly mean to his wife. The abuse included locking her out of the house whenever she went somewhere he didn't want her to go, verbal, emotional and even, physical abuse. The pastor said the wife had come to him about said abuse. He was quite proud of the fact that he told her, "vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord" and his counsel was for the woman to stay in her place and allow the Lord to deal with him. The abuse continued for years to the point that there were many nights when the woman slept on the porch because the man wouldn't let her in. He spoke so proudly of the woman's "obedience". Then, one night, the man had a dream that if he didn't change he would die.... He refused to change, so he died.... The pastor went on to say to the women in the room, " who told you that you are supposed to be happy?" 😮 It is bullsh$_&! like this that keeps me away from the church... I love God and would say I am a Christian but it's teachings like this that keeps people in abusive relationships and I have many more stories just like this one...I can see why the wife stayed as long as she did. There is so much shame attached to not being able to stay married. Poor girl... I hope she is getting the help she needs...

I’ve had my chest cracked open. I am 42 and almost 4 years ago I had Open hear surgery. It came about 6 months after I was placed into a medically induced coma. I was in that coma for two weeks and my husband and family had to live with the hour to hour news on how I was doing. The odds were not on my side but I pulled through and a few months later I had heart surgery. It disgusts me that someone would use an elective procedure to get attention and call it a heart problem. 🥺

The condition he had is called Pectus Excavatum. Purely cosmetic. Doesn't affect cardiac function whatsoever

At a vunerable time his talk about monogamy, never quitting a marriage and praise for motherhood are refreshing and very appealling. A big criticism I have of conservative media figures is how they lack any empathy. They come across as not very nice. The way they talk about issues they feel like they have to be as obnoxious as possible. Crowder is not a good person, it is totally coming out in his personal life.

It is entirely possible that Hilary is separated from her family due to a custody arrangement that causes her to remain living in TX. However, there are many women (Hilary possibly included) who are shunned by their families for such things as divorce. Such a sad sad situation for her and women like her. My heart goes out ❤

I have a cousin who is a fundamentalist Christian (although not raised that way, she chose that path when she was in college.) She proselytizes and tried to convince me (I am at least 9 years older than her) that “being a good wife means ‘submitting fully to your husband’ is the only way to have a successful marriage. I explained to her that this type of marital agreement only works for both parties if the man is a good person and actually loves his wife. I asked her if she understood that this kind of marriage also leads to a lot of domestic abuse perpetrated by the husband and justified by this belief…that women in her church are most definitely living in abusive situations because they were raised to understand their only purpose in life is to get married, have children, and be completely submissive to their husbands? I also pointed out that this is not even the way the Bible describes marriage. (Oh, that pissed her off, because I am not a Christian.😂) The men of the fundamentalist Christian traditions only concentrate on what the Bible says is the women’s role in marriage and the part where it says, “the man is the head of the household” while completely ignoring the meaning of the next part which says, “as Jesus is head of the church.” If those men cared about what the Bible actually says is the man’s role, they would think about what Jesus did as head of the church, which was to make himself subservient to all…he washed the feet of his disciples. According to the Bible, the man is supposed to be his wife’s servant, and also a servant to his children…to everyone in the household. Apropos of a conversation started by a Catholic (probably never read the Bible) and a member of the Assembly of God (probably had the New Testament memorized by age 12) who were coworkers of mine, I explained this to them. Their jaws dropped. The Catholic looked at his buddy, the Assembly of God man, who said, astonished, “she’s right.” So, you know, spread the word. These abusive beliefs so deeply seated in fundamentalist Christian tradition are absolutely in support of misogyny and abuse and have no basis in Christianity itself.

It sounds like maybe Steven had funnel chest. My brother was born with it, and the doctors said it could be fixed, but it would be purely cosmetic. It wasn't until he was older that he found out it was keeping his heart from fully functioning, so he had the operation when he was in high school. But that doesn't change the fact that's Steven's a huge piece of 💩.

The way he treated his wife happens a lot! I was married to SRJ and he was the same way! I've learned so much about covert narcissistic abuse. The verbal abuse is more damaging than physical. Srj used to say "its your wifely duty!" numerous times...even when he was supposedly handicapped he would lunge at me and grabbed me threatening to hurt me...I am so glad I am free of him.
