There are no secret moves in chess. Everybody has access to any move. There is no locked/unlocked concept in chess. Preparation only means who remembers the most variations and their evaluation.

WRONG.........because....even in deep preparation there is a point where you must stop...or you could spend your entire life examining and preparing a single game....players prepare to different lengths so they will definitely know moves their opponents do not, but the point is at some stage of the game and relatively early on....players will be totally on their own and must figure out OTB the correct move...

If you can't recognize when ...d5 needs to be played, you should seriously question whether you understand the Sicilian. It's all about the light squares, specifically e4/d5, specifically d5. But maybe he saw something concrete and missed a trick.

I think he usually does when it is. Typically the known moves are objectively solid, and the new moves are dubious attempts to drag the opponent into unfamiliar territory.

The concept of "strongest move" is _usually_ a bit fuzzy at that stage of a match [perhaps not always] - as it's normally about psychology and memory at that point. One would only _expect_ a swing of any relevance in a novel opening position if it were a blunder. That's to say; there's nearly always a move you _shouldn't_ play :) Any _true_ analysis of a "strongest move" in an opening would usually need a supercomputer like Sesse or a deep net like Alpha Zero to crunch a position to see if it were truly "strong" - as all moves _will_ always change the analysis back and forth by some tiny fraction. To compare one of these tiny fractions of change to another tiny fraction and conclude that it's objectively the "strongest" [currently known] move, would be stretching the data beyond what it really is showing (even using a deep stockfish). Ultimately the game is [at this stage] objectively "even" - within error tolerances. Any other analysis showing a preference to one side's position is likely more just showing whether any pawns or pieces have been taken up to that point in the analysis. (and all this would ultimately depend on the engine being used, and the depth analysed) That's not saying that there might _sometimes_ be an "objectively strongest by analysis" new move, but it would be very rare - like finding a totally new species of mammal in the "opening book" of the fossil record :) And I think in those rare positions, Agad' would be already on the case :)

No interest whatsoever in the movie. And Hans should probably decline any references to him. The well seems to have run dry. So dry that i stead of making a movie about chess, they want to make a movie about cheatting in chess? I hope they bought the rights to make sure it doesn't get made. There are not many movies about chess. Thete is one with John Torturro, which is perhaps one of the less known movies about chess. Its called The Luzhin Defence and it was released in 2000. Not sure if its a true story, it could have used a less dramatic ending, without failing to impress the importance of being married. 13:57
