It only takes a few short bars of the title track ‘House Of Doom‘ to feel that familiar sensation again:
yes, Leif Edling aka the undisputed king of minor key songwriting has returned. With him, he brings frenzied riffing, melancholy made sound and warm hammond organ tapestries that form the pillars of every Candlemass classic! The band is back on top form with this killer doom epic. The House Of Doom EP comes with 3 bonus tracks, raw and in your face: The brooding monster of a track ‘Flowers Of Deception‘ indulges in unadulterated doom heaviness, while the second half of the EP features the stripped-down ballad ‘Fortuneteller‘ and the wraps up with the almost sludgy ‘Dolls On A Wall‘.
The Swedish pioneers of timeless slowness managed once again to distill the essence of epic doom metal on House Of Doom - and at the same time they make waiting for the next longplayer (to be released in fall 2018) even harder…

The complaints here are understandable but i have listened to candlemass's older stuff such as epicus doomicus metallicus but i have to say, the voice, the music, and especially the lyrics are just great. It gives me that victorian horror vibe and i love it.

Candlemass is a Swedish Doom Metal Band established in Stockholm in 1984 by Bassist, Songwriter & Bandleader Leif Edling and Drummer Matz Ekström. The band had a defining infleunce on Doom Metal, and the genre itself after their debut album ‘Epicus Doomicus Metallicus.’ They are now considered Epic Doom Metal. Good "old" Mats Levén, I thought I heard him, and it was. I have everything Candlemass has put out to the world, and if this is a taste of new album, I will continue to do so. Yes, Messiah Marcolin was and is The Voice of the Candlemass, but he is no longer available, so get on with it and the band. As much as I loved Marcolin´s comeback and Black Dwarf, I think this song is good enough to add in the saga of Candlemass. Long live etc...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Candlemass is great at what they do. Mats Leven is great at what he can do. They just don't sound that great together for some reason. You had all those big soaring vocalists before him that he simply sounds weak in comparison to them, which isn't fair to Mats because he is fantastic when singing in the style of music that suits his voice best. He better with a faster style like what he did with Yngwie or maybe a Helloween-type band.

I agree. Rob would've fucking owned this song. Mats is very good though. I can't say I dislike his vocals AT ALL but he is a kind of lesser version of Rob to me. Anyway, love this track. This EP is way better than Death Thy Lover.
