Canister shell demo and comparison against some 2.5 inch display shells. These Zeus canister shells are top notch and I have shot many throughout the years. I would put them up against Excalibur any day. Let me know in the comments what shells you think are better. Thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe!

I think that we need some reworking of the laws around consumer-grade fireworks. I feel like one of the biggest problems I've had with them is low breaks. They'd be safer if the laws allowed for more powder in the lift charges.
@midwestpyrotechnics318

I do agree there. They need to get higher than they do now.
@JordanHaisley

Part of the issue is the short tubes that come with some consumer kits. Swapping from a 12” to 18” gets a lot more height. Still could use more lift though.

A reason why the break is higher on the 1.3 is because of the much longer tube, not necessarily because it has more lift charge, even though they probably might have a little more. If you cut the tube down to the same size of the canister shells tubes, I promise you will get a much lower break on the 1.3… feel free to check it out on my channel, I have videos of 3” coco shell in Long tubes and short tubes, you’ll def see the difference

Always be careful when reloading mortar tubes shortly after firing them, burning bits of paper in bottom of tube can cause the fuse to ignite at the bottom where the lift charge is causing it to fire before you can run away. Nice comparison vid! A lot of cheap spherical shells I've seen are actually just empty filler to take up the diameter of the tube and not as nice as those 2. Echo in the Ear are a pretty solid canister shell too, from my experience.

@@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 Pro tip: always load the mortar with no part of the body over the tube. Lower the shell with the string or fuse from the side of the tube. Treat it like a loaded gun and never put any part of your body or hands over the tube. I looked into the Type 54, and everything that goes with it. I came to the conclusion that it generally costs way too much money, and I ultimately don't want the responsibility and hassle of it. Particularly, there's obligatory paperwork that you better have correct when it gets looked at, and I'm not super awesome at that stuff. On the other hand, I did get my state display operator's license. That allows me to run any 1.3 show. It is a fairly straight forward apprenticeship type thing, and I got paid to do all those shows even as a non-licensee. It is not much money, $100 for the license, and a written test. $100 every 4 years to renew. The best way to do that is to join a firework club if available, or if not, call up display companies that work in your area and ask them if you can get in with their company. They're usually looking for help.

The cylinder shells are limited to what, 55-60 grams by regulation? 4", 5", it doesn't matter the length. The 1.3g is only limited by volume. The difference between your 2.5" and a 3" shell is noticable, as is the jump to a 4" shell. The volume differences begin to shrink as the size increases. Don't get me wrong, bigger IS better. Safety concerns and downwind fallout areas become the problem for most of the private display hobbyists. Be safe everyone. Your guests' health and safety are your first responsibility.

I don't know anything about stuff, but just viewing them, I would say the canisters are still quite nice, and I wouldn't walk out of a professional display if some were mixed in to give more flash per minute. If they are considerably cheaper, it would be pretty nice to use them for filling in volume or something. Back in the day, a pro display would have like 2 shots per minute, until the guy on the launching barge fucked up and blew his face off, then a couple hours of delay, and then they'd burn off the remaining stuff quickly, because fireworks.

Funny enough, consumer 1.75" shells cost nearly the same as 2.5" commercial shells. My wholesale cost for a case of 5" or 6" cannister shells is $178 plus shipping to me is $24/case. That comes out to $2.80/shot. If you look at Casabella's public price list for 1.3g 2.5" shells, they average $2.93 each with 3" shells at $4.15. This was my first year shooting 1.3g with a local company, and I can tell you without a doubt I would have argued the 1.4 stuff I shoot is similar to 2.5" shells....and I now realize just how wrong I would have been. At basically the same price, the 2.5" is WAY higher breaking and with a larger spread.

Maybe it's the camera angle or watching on a phone vs pc, but they didn't honestly appear to be much different. It would be nice to see the camera set up at a fixed distance and set both off at the same time. I know that might not be easy to pull off, but these seem very "apples to oranges" in comparison. Especially when comparing even bigger shells to each other. I know an 8" is obviously more dynamic than a 3", but in a video it's hard to distinguish dimensions. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, just making a constructive observation.

Are you blind or mentally disabled? You can clearly see how much higher the professional shells break. Just count the seconds from as soon as the lift charge goes off on a consumer shell till it breaks in the sky. It's 3 seconds. With the pro shells is around 4 to 5 seconds. And common sense says it will obviously go higher because pro shells has more black powder on the lift charge than a canister shell.

@midwestpyrotechnics318
@midwestpyrotechnics318 3 года назад
Yeah but my distributor only carries salutes in 1.75 and 2 inch. So 2.5 inch is all I’m able to get for display color shells that small. Next time I go to lynch imports I may try and get some 2 inch display shells for a comparison. I’d really like to put some death shells next to some 2.5s. I think that would be a good comparison but I don’t have any of those.

Thanks for the video, you did a very nice job. I do have to say that if you are going to compare a 1.3 shell versus a 1.4 G can you could have used a better 1.4 G canister shell. I have 1.4 cans that are just as good as 3" 1.3 G shells. In fact if you are staying 3" or below on the 1.3g I wouldn't even waste my time. The price difference is not worth it, in my opinion. If you are keeping the 3" titanium salutes out of the equation, there are consumer 1.4 cans that hit just as hard and and even harder than 3", and 2.5" as you are demoing. 1.3g color shells have a nice lift charge to them but a lot of the breaks are not very impressive.
@beemerguy2160
@beemerguy2160 2 года назад
That’s such a consumer fireworks guy comment. You obviously have never fired a single display shell in your life. Let alone seeing a 1.3g shell burst in person. RU-vid is one thing, up close in person is another.
@jpyrosky3825
@jpyrosky3825 2 года назад
@@beemerguy2160 I replied and it looks like somebody might have taken it down. You're a moron if you think that I would make a comment like that and not have dealt with them personally. Maybe you should get out there and have more experience with things and see for yourself. Looks like you haven't run into the right canister shell. And as I said before, drink a little more whiskey at 3:00 a.m and insult someone else on RU-vid and start an argument. 2.5" to 3" 1.3g COLOR SHELLS, NOT SALUTES are nothing special. I have cans that are the equivalent and some even better. You just have to find the right ones. But nobody can tell you anything you have it all figured out.
@Matt_Deluca
@Matt_Deluca 2 года назад
Price difference not worth it? You must be talking about illegal "street" prices. I can legally buy a good-quality case of 72 3" shells for less than the cost of 2 24-piece can shell kits. The performance will be WAY better also. 1.3 will almost always be a better value product when compared to 1.4 dollar per dollar. US consumer fireworks are 60% cardboard/clay and 100% markup.
