Thank you for the video. Im trying to get an electric pressure canner here in the uk. I like the idea of small jars of chicken. Im a diabetic and have fibromyalgia. We dont have canned chicken to buy. So having this is great for wraps salads and i like coronation chicken. So its handy when i dont have energy to cook. My teen and i like camping so having canned food is great as i don't need a fridge. Please di some more canning. Sam

Thank you, Sam! I couldn’t agree more! Having home-canned food on hand is so handy and it’s so nice when you don’t feel like cooking something or making a mess in the kitchen. I have a few more videos of stuff ive canned already recorded and will be posting and will be making more! :)

You can bypass the heating up of the jar section after you choose the time and hit the advanced button. It’ll say insert jars you hold down the advance button three seconds and it will skip the heating up jars for the cold start method and go directly to heating up the water to can

Sebastian, I had a question when I saw your submerged jars so I went to the Official Presto Facebook page and did a search. Colleen Ann, the admin and employee of Presto, had previously posted earlier this year…”When using the pressure canning method, the water level should be below the neck of the jar. For these smaller jars, you do need to raise the jars. You can put a layer of jar bands down and set the rack on top of them - therefore raising your jars up so they are not submerged in water.” BTW, she also said you can stack the 1/2 pint jars by staggering like you did with no plate between the layers….10 jars of regular mouth and 14 of wide mouth. I saw there was some discussion about the layering.

There is no rack on the bottom or between layers. I have one of these and you really need the rack. You can break jars that way.

Actually, upon looking at the video, you’re right! I completely forgot to place the rack at the bottom! I thought I had it in. You’re 100% right. I always use it, but probably forgot trying to film and prep everything for the video. Ill make another video with canning beef and i’ll be sure to cover that in there and correct my mistake. Thank you! The directions don’t say you need a divider in between layers. Just stagger them.

@@missmollycollie911 really? www.gopresto.com/uploads/02144_Digital_Canner_Eng_Web_Instructions_4008_121C.pdf These are mine. They say to stagger them. No divider plus they dont provide a divider. I do have the rack and it’s well loved looking hahahaha thanks for pointing that out about forgetting the rack. I’ll make sure to share in future videos so that people know to place the rack in the bottom.

Does home made canned chicken smell like cat food the way commercial canned chicken does? Also is the texture like real chicken or more like tuna fish the way commercial canned chicken tastes?
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 29 дней назад
@@rocksolidwealth no fishy smell at all in my opinion. It smells like youve put the chicken in a crock pot and then opened up the lid to smell it. Just smells like chicken. In regards to the texture, it has more give and texture than tuna. It doesnt become mush and homogenous like Tuna does. It more has the texture of pulled chicken like for bbq or when you have it in the crock pot and you shred it. Because its canned in glass it also doesnt have a tinny taste. It’s far superior in my opinion especially if you use high quality chicken to start with.

I don't think water is supposed to be over the jars
@setapartfarmandgardens

Those were the instructions per the manufacturer, but as long as you don’t go over the fill line it’ll be fine.

depends on what the cooker suggests.

yeah you are correct. when pressure canning, under no circumstances should any of the jars be fully submerged. I have this canner and you can submerge jars in it for water bathing only.
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 8 месяцев назад
Here are the instructions for the canner. www.gopresto.com/uploads/02144_Digital_Canner_Eng_Web_Instructions_4008_121C.pdf This is what it says on page 6, step #4: 4. Pour water into the removable pot up to the bottom fill line (Fig. A, page 2). Tips: Use hot tap water to shorten the time to heat the water. To prevent water stains on jars, add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the water in the canner. Note: 3 quarts of water are needed regardless of how many jars are being canned. It says the minimum water requirement is 3 quarts of water which is the low fill line of water regardless of the size of jar used. That means that half-pint jars will be submerged with water. The instructions also recommend to stack the jars and stagger them as shown in the video on page 4 of the instructions. I couldn't find anywhere that said they can't be submerged under any circumstances, but now i'm curious so I'm reading the instructions again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

You are not supposed to stack jars without a divider in-between the two layers. The directions to the canner are lacking, to say the least.
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 8 месяцев назад
Actually, the pressure digital canner manual mentions to just stagger them. I showed the manual in the video and you can see the figure # 1 where it shows them staggered with no divider. Here’s the link to the manual: www.gopresto.com/uploads/02144_Digital_Canner_Eng_Web_Instructions_4008_121C.pdf The chicken was canned and the jars were staggered per manufacturers instructions.
