Yep, girl, I'm on the same task, trying to downsize my frozen stuff. Canning and canning! Whew, just got my first batch of raspberry lemonade concentrate canned...drool. There was about a tablespoon left in my pitcher once I filled the jars...I put some cold water in and drank it....OMG! IT's sooooooooooo good! Thanks to the ladies in your facebook group for giving me ideas...

I love Ruhrbarb! I got two harvests, and am getting another one now. I stewed my down, and it was delicious with pork chops instead of applesauce. Delicious! I’m canning the rest for the shelves..

I canned some rhubarb in syrup. Threw it all out as after a month or so it went grey. Didn't trust it. Will do this method next time as we love rhubarb & apple crumble as well as pie.

I’m so glad you did this video! Rhubarb is a family favorite. We make pies, but we also add stewed rhubarb to ice cream or yogurt. I didn’t realize there was an approved recipe, hooray!!!!

Before my mom passed her teeth were gone but she loved strawberry rhubarb pie so I would peel and boil down the rhubarb and mash it and add it strawberry jello. She loved it.

OMG!!!!!!!! Now I miss my rhubarb patch even more :( I grew up with a huge rhubarb patch. I miss it so much. Sometimes you can find it frozen at Publix, but not very often. It doesn't grow here in Florida. I so miss rhubarb pie.

Thanks for sharing this- I hope to get my hands on some rhubarb. I love the way you teach, making sure we know the ‘why’ and you have a way of making it easy to follow along with you. Forjars are my favorite lids 😊 I’m also trying to empty my freezer some, canning meat etc. The end of August is historically a ripe time for hurricanes in Louisiana so pantry stable is a great thing!

The very first belly ache I ever had was from eating my granny's rhubarb pie. I'd never had it before and it was so good I went back for seconds and thirds, lol. It was worth it (not worth repeating, though). Ow.

I have never had rhubarb pie because here in Australia, my family always served it just with custard in bowls. It is definitely on my ‘must try’ list now though! Now that all the matriarchs have passed, it has been years since I had rhubarb so I going to be looking for it for myself.

Hi Leisa, strawberry rhubarb pie is my husband's favorite pie too! People around here make a sweetened rhubarb sauce, similar to applesauce. It is quite delicious. I only have 1 rhubarb plant so I need to get more planted. Tonight here in Southern Wisconsin it's cold and windy but it's supposed to warm up after tonight. I'm making chicken and dumpling soup for dinner tonight.

Great idea and can't wait to try it later this week! ps I've been having some fun with your Tipsy Fairy Plum recipe. Last year, I had to source what I could find and ended up using black/purple plums with Smirnoff Lemon Vodka. Absolutely wonderful and I did a rinse and repeat earlier this summer because it was such a hit. But I found yellow plums this week and today used Tanqueray Gin Royale Cassis (Black Currant). Incredible. I cut the liquor back to 3/4 cup and still great flavour. Of course, I made these bass ackwards and should have used the lemon with the yellow plums and cassis with the purple plums. But we roll with what Mother Nature gives us when she gives it. I'm set for a lovely winter. Will try warmed up with some good vanilla ice cream for dessert. Happy camper in Canada.

We used to can rhubarb when I was a kid we just used water and then we would put sugar on it after we opened it and ate it. That was our sweet snack. That's what I'm going to be doing in a few days my rhubarb it is ready to cut and can. ❤️🤗🙏

@@SuttonsDaze Please help !! - I ve been canning on a ceramic hob - always pint jars BUT after 75 mins I let it sit until pressure dropped and took jars out - they never looked exactly like yours - I now realise that that time sitting on hob it was still hot - (not like turning off gas) - they must be overcooked? should I toss them?

If your rhubarb doesn't produce very well, next spring buy a couple of plants that produces bigger stalks . Rhubarb naturally expand their growth out. Maybe your friend will give you a couple of off shoots of her rhubarb plants.

This is my first year to get rhubarb to grow. Prayerfully hopefully I can Harvest next year. My husband said that when they had rhubarb growing as a kid growing up; their mom would give them a small cup of sugar and they would wet the stock of rhubarb and dip it in there and eat it like celery.. Me personally the only ways I've ever had rhubarb was a rhubarb strawberry pie and rhubarb jam. Mmmm😋😋

I put up 16 pints of rhubarb a few weeks ago and I picked 2 gallons of chokecherries I cleaned and froze them because I think they juice better if I freeze them before I make the juice for jelly any syrup.

Hey lady, half a 5 gallon bucket of composted cow manure per plant every year will kick your plants in gear. An additional cup of alfalfa pellets helps greatly.

I cut my fingers all the time on the ForJars lids. I think I'm going to write to them and just let them know that if they could get their specs to round off a little bit on the edges, it would be helpful. I still use them though because they seal much better than the other products at present.

I thought it was just me!!!! I got a nasty cut on the lid too. Like you said, they need to round the edge a bit to prevent it from cutting people. I think as many people as possible need to give them the feedback and I’m sure they’ll make the adjustments.

@@cbordes1 yes, it's particularly hazardous when washing the jars. But, I've cut my fingers too when just grabbing the lids. They seem like a very responsible and responsive company. That's why I think the feedback to them would be a good thing.

I'm still a relative newbie at pressure canning and I'm having a lot of times where I have a jar of two that has syphoning. What am I doing wrong? I'm following the headspace guidelines and cleaning the rims well so I don't understand. Any ideas?

Leesa, I love the Forjars lids too, but I got a nasty cut on a lid too. Would it be possible for you to give them feedback about the lids cutting people? Maybe they can make the adjustment to future lids to prevent this from happening.

Rhubarb is not a very popular item here in the South for the most part and I was an adult before having the opportunity of trying it. Boy howdy do I like a good strawberry rhubarb pie. It's been $5.99 @ lb in the one store here that I've seen it in but I bet it's about to get much higher. So, I reckon that the canned rhubarb would be to soft or mushy to make a pie, huh? I have several gallon bags of rhubarb in my freezer. This is great idea as I only need so many jars of cinnamon rhubarb jam. Where did you get your knife? Looks like it would be comfortable for my arthritic hands. Blessings.

Would you be willing to explain the method for making pie from this canned rhubarb? Do you heat it up again adding cornstarch and the pour into an unbaked pie shell? Does it really take two quarts for a regular 9 inch pie?

I have never made rhubarb pie nor have I ever eaten it I was such a picky eater growing up I am 70 years old now and I have expanded my repertoire of what I will try so I just have to be around somebody that's made some rhubarb pie so I can taste it we had a bush in the back corner of our property in the house we lived in in the fifties and it was a big rhubarb bush and my grandma when she came to visit she would go out there and shop all that rhubarb down that was ready and take it back home and made rhubarb pies but the Barbies was in bellefontaine and I was in Lima so I don't I never got any of those but they look interesting I just want it to be not sour I wanted to be sweet so I'm going to pay attention these two ball pies that you're working on.

Good morning. My newest Ball book had said to add 1/2-1 cup of sugar to each quart of cut rhubarb. I split the difference and went with about 3/4 cup of sugar. Will this be a big deal, did i just ruin the batch. Thank you for all of your information. I greatly appreciate you and all that you do for all of us.

It is actually a vegetable but usually used like a fruit. It is very tart and most people use lots of sugar.

Question, I’m a newbie canner and the head space for some reason seems difficult for me. What happens if the recipe calls for 1/2 headspace but my jars are more like one inch. I’m always afraid I will put to much in.
