Hey there, this is an excellent video. Actually I have not used this camera from more than last 5-6 years thinking that the camera is of no use and it is gone. I have even visited to Cannon authorised service centre and explained the same behaviour. But the service centre guys told me that the repair cost might be more than purchasing a new camera. Hence packaged it and kept it in cupboard for more than 6-7 years. Today my son asked for the camera and fortunately I come across your video. I just visited local shop and purchased CR1220 just for 20 bug. Now I realised that the camera is in excellent condition and working properly. I have given it to my son and he started exploring the same. Thank you very much for this video. This is really excellent video helped me to correct the camera and back to working condition.
I stumbled over your video by accident and I’m glad I did. I have the SX20 IS and some years ago it was cutting off while video recording and finally got worse, where every time I turned the camera on I had to keep resetting the date and time. Found the coin battery and it read 0 volts. I replaced it and everything works fine now. Thanks so much for sharing this fix.
Thank you so much. I wonder why they don't put that information in the manual. It says see advanced guide. It should be right in the regular manual. I really thought my camera was finished. You are a life saver. Thank you so very much again, you have been a tremendous help.
Thank you very much for posting the video. I bought a Canon Power Shot SX10 in 2008 and until today, 07/16/2020, I had never changed the battery, and I didn't know how to do it, It helped a lot!!!

Just bought one from second hand market. First notice was, the time setting is cleared every time when power turned off. Little Googling and the answer was in this video. Thank you. :)
Works like a charm, simple life extender, many thanks. Also to those who have similar problems or just use NiMH in general, get a BC-700 or similar charger that shows your batteries' true status and gives each individual cell just the charge it needs etc. Standard chargers are blind toasters.
oxus72 Dear I have S5Is camera every time it said Change the battery. I changed the all the 4 batteriea but it still says ? Another question are the batteries recharchable ? And if they are recharchable where i but the charger which hole? And whats the function of that little battery beside the memory card
أهلاَ بك, ok you're not just teasing me now? Your questions are mainly answered in the clip but to be clear: The tiny "CR1220" battery powers the low wattage internal clock and settings chip inside the camera. This function is active even when your cam is switched off. The CR1220 has an estimated life span of 5 years. Once it fails it can not be recharged, only replaced. Online purchase or general store, it's a commonly sold battery. For the S* IS family of cams, the CR1220 has a habit of causing false "change battery" behavior once it gets old. A new CR1220 will likely make the cam behave normally again. Once you've done that, obviously you have to make sure your 4 main AA batteries are rechargeable and in good condition before you use them with a charger. If it says "alkaline" or "do not recharge" on their label, you don't recharge once they're worn out :) To recharge any AA batteries of the NiMH family, take them out and put in an external charger. The camera cable connector is not for charging, only adapter hot-powering for those who use that. As mentioned I can't recommend a smart charger like the BC700 enough over standard dumb chargers, you find them on Ebay etc under different brand labels and they quickly save the extra money for you on battery life gains. I recommend two 4-kits of NiMH AA cells of trusted labels like Eneloop, Amazon, Energizer etc, plus low charge-current settings for a smooth backup and long battery life. Stay away from the cheap mislabeled pretend-performance junk.
I legit found this camera in a closet. full of batter corrosion. I just cleaned all the ports and put in new batteries...Nothing. Didnt know about this little trick though! It's worth a shot
Thanks Bro. good help and i got flash light problems can you assist in this too, appreciated. not only that my S5IS AV out and USB compartment when open it got liquid in it. And the cover got loose after that it broke into pieces the cover i mean.

Sir how about S3 IS My battery is fully charged but I can't turn on the power..please help me It's was happening today....yeastday it's was still good... Please should I change the cr1220 battery If you see my comment please reply me
I have a different canon, But it has a little battery in there! My SX20 is saying ‘Lens error’, But I’m hoping this will do the trick. I’ll let you know!
You can *power* it with an adapter for fixed use but there's no charging solution to a core issue with the standby battery. When that runs out you simply replace it.
Keep trying. It's a little tricky. Push or pull the small slide on top of the battery compartment and push the entire battery compartment top out at the same time.
My son brought me this camera PowerShot s2 IS He found at our junk store. It won't turn on with my kodak batteries. I'll try replacing this hidden battery and let you know. Fingers crossed...
all that button cell battery does is keep the date and time stored in the camera. it does not control whether the camera turns on or off. If the camera turns on and off, it has nothing to do with the button cell battery. I have several of the S5 cameras and the cr12220 has been dead for years, when I turn on the camera it asks me to set the time and date because of this.
