Lows Lake! The Bog River Flow! A trip that threw it all at us. On this one trip I experienced 3 of my firsts of the season , Frost, flurries of snow, and hail !!! I spent 9 days paddling this incredible area, going from campsite to campsite. We were on the move. Our plan was to not have a plan, and we made that work. 9 days of paddling freedom! And the FOOD !!!! Off the hook! I hope you enjoy this video!

Went canoe camping to Lows with friends one time and couldn't even make it out onto the lake. West wind was blowing whitecaps and 2-3 foot swells right at us and we could make no headway at all. Camped on the esker at the foot of the lake. Wanted to camp on the other side of the channel, but DEC had closed that site to rehabilitate it. If not for the good friendship and good food, it would have been a bust. I only caught one ho-hum bass (bigger than yours). Kind of a bummer because I've heard Lows is a great bass lake. But when that wind blows from SW, W, or NW, you can forget it!

Good company and food can make all the difference! The wind out there sure can be pretty gnarly. We had a few interesting moments. lol. We heard there is real good bass fishing there. Maybe next time....I hope your next trip there plays out more in your favor.

Headed out to Lows Lake for a five day paddle next week. I went there about 10 years ago for my bachelor party. Now I’m going back with my wife and 5 year old daughter! It’s going to be so good (though with less booze and bud this time). Thanks for the recon on some of the campsites.

Sounds like you have some great memories on that lake, about to make some more! Really cool that you are going back there with your family. It's an amazing lake. I hope it isn't too crowded. The secret is out. All the locals we talked to about the lake said the lake has gained a lot of popularity over the last 5 years. Last year in particular was the busiest they had ever seen. I'd really appreciate it if you could get back to me when your trip is over, let me know how busy it was. Have a great time out there with your family! Thank for watching

Damn bro I just watched this whole video with my wife, we loved it and don’t know how it didn’t get more views. I have been hunting and fishing Bog river access and Lows lake for 30 years a lot of moose there also. Such a solid video with so much effort you did to film this great work!!!
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 2 года назад
We could tell there was a lot of moose out there. We actually opted out of a campsite because there was moose sign everywhere. Lots of fresh prints and the whole are smelled musty. We were both all set with getting trampled by a moose at night. That is my worst fear camping in New England, getting run over by a moose at night as I am sleeping in my tent. I can see why you have hunted that area for 30 years. The thought crossed my mind about how awesome it would be to paddle out there and hunt whitetail for a week or two! I would be willing to bet, that if I live long enough I will do it. It is on the list. I really enjoyed this area. We had a fantastic time out there. I will be back. Thank you for watching this video. This was a very fun adventure

Thanks for the great videos!! Very inspirational! I'm getting too old to haul 60lb backpacks through the woods to reach these type of locations and a lot of them you can't hike to anyway. Debsconeag wilderness area looks awesome. After watching these videos I have already ordered some replacement parts for my wilderness kayaks and making plans for this year. I live an hour north of the bog river inlet so I'll be hitting that and Lake Lila as well this year. I have canoed on long lake in the ADK's to cold river before. You might want to check that out sometime as well. Great videos!!

It was a little unnerving having them run around underneath me in my underquilt though! We plan on visiting there again and try to find the Ice Cave this spring over near Grass Pond! Maybe see you out there with Craig sometime. Fall is my favorite time! My husband and I watched your video last night. We live at the southern tip of the Adirondacks and have done lots of canoe camping trips. We've been to parts of this lake but as day trips. He now wants to plan a 4 nighter to the Oswegatchie. We have done a few week- long canoe trips, but never ate as fine as you did. Because we often have portages and may do hikes while camping, we have to pack much lighter food. We eat a lot of dry pasta and I have been experimenting with dehydrating foods. This past summer, I cooked black beens with all kinds of veggies and then dehydrated the whole thing- mainly for me. how did you manage to keep all the meat cold for your 8 day trip? I want to know, who does the dishes?! To me that is the biggest pain. We boil lake water and then fill two dish pans- one for rinsing and one for washing. But I can't imagine washing the bacon frying pan. I hate washing it at home because of all the grease LOL. We really enjoyed the video, that's for sure. My favorite time to canoe camp in the 'dacks is beginning of May before the black flies come out or Mid Sept- early October because of the lack of bugs and nicer temps. Keep the videos coming!
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 2 года назад
The oswegatchie is on my list as well! When I am on trips that do not involve major portages, I pack heavy. To keep my food cold, I pack my cooler with 64 fluid oz juice bottles filled with ice. I usually have 5 or 6 of the bottles. This solves my refrigeration issues. And, as the ice melts, I drink the ice cold water! All week long I get to drink cold water. It's very nice and worth the weight to me when weight doesn't matter. On more ambitious trips, I do a lot of dehydrated foods. I have a few of my favorite recipe videos on the channel if you are interested. Spaghetti, taco mix, sloppy joe mix, fruits,,,,, and more to come. For washing greasy pots and pans, boiling water. Thats all i use. Dump out the grease. Put the pan upside down over coals or fire for a few minutes. Then put water in the pan. heat up the water, dump it out and repeat a few times. sometimes I will use a handful of some sand as well. And sometimes I will bring a bit of soap if weight isn't an issue. Early spring and late fall are the best times to get out there! For sure. This past October my buddy Craig and I did the Debsconeag loop in Maine. That was a real fun trip. Portages and much lighter pack loads. You and your husband may find that video of interest. It was an amazing trip. I would be happy to send you the link if you would like. Thank you for the awesome comment. I hope you two have some fun adventures coming up!

Once you pull out the double-bladed paddle, the canoe becomes a kayak. It's ok, but it's not canoeing. Your food looked fabulous, and that, alone, makes the canoe trip worthwhile. Add good friends, adventure, strange weather, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, fishing, fresh air, and you have relaxation perfected! Thanks!
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 3 года назад
I must respectfully disagree. The paddle does not transform the canoe. It does however , make the canoe a much more efficient vessel. I'm not an elitist, If I'm in a canoe, I'm canoeing. And this was one hell of a canoe trip. Everything about it was awesome! What a time!
@MeetMeOutside
@MeetMeOutside 3 года назад
I agree with Justin, I enjoy paddling with my nice single blade beaver tail paddle on occasion, in fact I carry it on trips as my back up paddle. Its a canoe and its canoeing. And with the right canoe , makes a lot of sense to use a double blade. You can cover a lot more water with a double blade and a “ canoe” designed for big water and still carry all the gear for an adventure. I respect the old concept of a canoe isn’t a canoe if your not using a single blade paddle. But common sense goes a long way my friend. Cheers

Through that struggle I find strength and appreciation, and my love grows.
