Canon 1DX - 8 Things I Like 

This camera is a TANK! I purchased one last weekend and when I got home, I realized the focusing wasn't working but I strongly believed that the camera wasn't defective. I felt in my heart that the previous owner of this Canon EOS 1DX that I had just purchased used from B&H Photo had gone into menu settings to disable the camera's ability to do focusing through the lens. Instead of taking this camera back to B&H Photo to get a refund, my gut instinct told me to take the camera back to the sales people in the used camera department to see if they could go into the camera's menu settings itself to enable focusing through the camera lens again like it was intended because I really wanted to get this camera. When I returned to the used camera sales department, a couple of the people in this department were able to get this beast of camera to focus through the lens again. I love this camera because it feels great in my hands plus I love the hard shutter sound that it makes when I fire the shutter. The focus is super fast and the 12 fps are great. Over the years, I have had MANY canon cameras both film and digital but I must say that the Canon EOS 1DX is the BEST camera I have had so far in my life. I can't wait to shoot an event with this beast of a camera!

I love the way he just gets right to the point -- no digressions -- just says what he's got to say and gets out.

I don't think I will have an opportunity to have both cameras together. Both the 1DX and the nikon D4 are top of the line flagship cameras. You cannot go wrong with either camera and you will love both.

That single button focus point zoom function is brilliant!

Hi Peter, thanks for the review. Can you tell me how you set up your 1DX to magnify your focus point by pressing the center SET button?

For pro like sports, wildlife, and war photographers the weather sealing,j durability, and high FPS of the 1DX is something that the 5Dm3 can't provide. For these people the premium is worth it.

If the iPhone did better in your eyes, then I would suggest it is the settings that need to be worked with. If you shot these valuable images in RAW, you are ahead of the game. You can go and change the settings after the image has been shot with little or no damage to the image and come up with an excellent image. if you shot in JPG mode, the image is already "baked" with the settings of the camera and you have less ability for change - but you still have some. The Speedlite adds new problems,

For landscape photography and architectural photography i would go with a tilt shift lens and the highest high quality megapixels i could afford. That would be the D800E. If I could not afford that, then the D7100 without the AA filter. The Olympus AP5 also has no AA filter I believe.

You can't compare 1Dx to Mark III.. 1Dx has superior metering, "larger pixels", better high ISO performance and subject tracking that works. More megapixels doesn't justify benefits for most people. Also the grip on Mark III doesn't feel as natural and firm as on 1Dx.

Dear Peter. I have seen your excellent videos, still I want an honest answer. If you had the choice to buy a Canon 1dx or a Nikon d4, all talk about lenses you own not a factor, which would you buy. Which is a better camera...for indoor shooting of ballerinas at work?

How does this camera compare to the Canon 5D MK3? Would it be a good upgrade?

Hello sir. Love your videos and have a question. Chose the Nikon d600 with 50mm 1.4 lens over my Canon 5d mark3 with 50mm !.2 lens...to take to Tate modern in London, to shoot Mark Rothko paintings. A darkened room full of his paintings, my camera could not get even close to shooting the colors. My friend with iphone got much better results. My pictures turned out light and bright, while the paintings are suddued in colors of wine. do I need a speed-light to shoot? Joel

3:25 - it's great that the joystick controls the autofocus selection point. However, whatever happened to the technology Canon had over 15 years ago with the EOS 50E? This had eye-control autofocus which selected the focus point you were actually looking at. Sure, there were only three boxes in the viewfinder but come on, technology has moved on leaps and bounds and I can't believe that a more sophisticated version wouldn't be possible nowadays! Any tech-buffs with an answer?

it uses a cfast card and a compact flash

My 1DS II does spot metering and it cost the same as a T4i...

Canon 1d mk3 does spot metering too.

buy a 5D mk3 and a battery grip and you have 4 more mega pixel and most features of the 1Dx and so close image quality for half the price wich you can then spend on an L lense
