He shifted focus some 5mm to front. I was bashing Canon for years, but I think that now they came up with a great camera. If iso 12800 is usable, this could be the best all-rounder at the market.
@PhotoN: Now that we have a production-level sample in the lab, we'll see about making another example. Please note that it's a very subtle effect; I don't think this is even as much adjustment as focus calibration microadjustments for lenses in the setup menu. It's maybe enough to deal with a situation like in a very wide-aperture portrait shot, where the subject's eyelashes are sharp, but not the catchlight in the eyes. (Which will make the portrait look soft overall to the eye.) You can fix that much of a focus error, but I understand why Canon is careful to not call it a focus adjustment; it isn't. (See the link in my reply to Jim Huang above; that explains what I believe is going on.)
@kernel: That's a little different; I'm pretty sure the post-focus you're talking about involves either multiple shots or extracting a frame from a 4K clip. This is a single shot, then it's massaging the data. It's more akin to what Lytro does, albeit in a much more limited sense, with much more pixel resolution.
This isn't a weak example honestly. I got my Mk IV over the weekend and this is the first featured I tried...it's really minute and looks like it hardly did anything at all. I was able to notice only slight differences with the 50mm f/1.2 where I was able to fix slight focus on the eye--but even then, not much. I can't see this being a game changer anytime soon. It's more of a concept at the point--how they do with them high unusable ISOs.
seems gimmicky. I'm trying this now and all it seems to do is sharpen the area rather than any actual microadjustment :( leaving the area oversharpened and not to pleasing to look at.

Am I the only one who noticed that adjustment just caused the image to be soft everywhere?!?? It was easy to see where the image went out of focus - but it didn't bring anything into focus! I mostly shoot at 1.8-2.0 (newborn photography - I would love to be able to use my 50 1.2L closer to 1.4 or *gasp* even 1.2 every once in a while) and nothing is more frustrating when the "perfect shot" isn't focused where I actually put the focal point. I don't need anything to blur the eyebrows or tip of the nose and NOT bring the eyelashes in to focus. Guess I'll just have to keep overshooting like I've doing for years with my Mark111. Super.
I just took a second look, and I see what you're talking about. Honestly, even that still doesn't look crisp like the original focal point. It just looks over sharpened in PP. Hopefully there's another video example that shows better results. I was really excited about it!
Sorry for the slow reply. We'll measure the exact speed, but just playing with the camera, it seems that dual pixel raw burst rate was maybe half that of conventional raw/jpeg.
You see, the problem is that most of pro photographers just dont need such extra features. Insted i'd, personaly, prefered better dinamic range, better color handling, better lowlight capability etc. But that's not gonna happen...
Canon? Where is UHS2 support? Where is cfast? Lack of 50mp due to low light compromise is no excuse, Sony has done it? Wifi and NFC suck anyway! Snapbridge is the future! Asthetics, 5% change in 4yrs? Same mirror as 5DSR? Great evolution? Hmm. Video is crippled! Motion JPEG and 1.74 crop? 1990 tech? Wow! Excellent innovation. :-( Pathetic! No hdmi external recording? Hmm. However the Dual Pixel AF is great and touch screen is great! Whoopie! Sooooo many cameras had touch screen for years! Sorry mate Nikon d5 and Nikon d500 and Canon 5DSR still outstrip the 5D Mark IV in the overall quality across the board. Dual Pixel Raw? X2 size files for 2% possible adjustment? Pls no gimmicks Canon! But hey what do I know right?
Dimitrios Zacharopoulos I have a 5D Mark IV, 4k MJPEG video isn't crippled at all, at least it is quality video, no artifacting and can do a frame grab from 4k video.
