This is an example of a canon written "per arsin et thesin," where the notes that occur on the strong beats one and three of the leading voice are shifted onto the weak beats two and four of the following voice. In this case, the Soprano follows the Alto a fifth above and three half-notes later, while the Bass takes the Dorian cantus firmus from Fux's Gradus ad Parnassum. I composed these canons as examples for a music theory article I am currently working to get published.
