Canon EOS R50 or R100 - Buy the R50 and I explain why 

I think they are approaching the R100 the same way they did with allot of the rebel dslr cameras. Not everyone who bought a rebel camera upgraded to a higher end camera and the r100 is to me a mirrorless rebel camera. It’s cheap easy to pick up and use and 24 megapixel is decent resolution. I have considered getting the r100 as a backup camera and not break the bank. I met a working pro photographer 3 weeks ago still rocking a Nikon d700 and that is considered ancient technology. If you know what you are doing at least for photography the r100 will work for advanced hobbyist photographers like me.

I’m left eye dominant. My nose constantly hits touch screens and changes the focus point so I’m excited about the non touch feature. I don’t like the delicate flippy screen either. The pro 5D MK iv doesn’t have a touchscreen either 🤷🏻‍♂️ Also, some of us only shoot photos and never video!

The lack of an articulating screen on the R100 just makes one thing extremely obvious. It is a camera for photography, not video. This is reinforced by the frame rates and other video features that it lacks. I am actually totally okay with this not being an all-in-one printer... I mean camera. The worst knock against it is that it's just too dumbed down. It needs rotating controls on top or somewhere for aperture and shutter speed as all cameras should have at a bare minimum. It's the whole reason you buy a standalone camera. The R100 is just there to coerce you into coughing up the cash for a more expensive Canon. There's really no real reason why the R50 couldn't be $500 other than marketing strategies. All cameras come down in price until they're discontinued in a few years for no reason except to add or take away a couple minor features and charge more money. So, it's best to buy the best camera you can get and hold onto it for as long as possible.

For your age am sure you have shot on great cameras. Touch screen and a fliopy screen won't stop anyone from taking photos. This is a beginner camera. I would advise anyone to get this camera if you just starting out

This could be a great crop for wildlife

£230 to a lot of people is a lot of money. Its all relevant. Why pay the extra if your not going to use all the bells and whistles. No 4k, so what, 15 fps ,who really uses that speed, and what's wrong with focus and recompose, don't need a touch screen for that. Remember its a beginner camera.

I love the R50 also but I am always touching the wrong buttons when holding the camera. So I fixed that by using Zeadio table top tripod which is small enough when recording myself. Small too when taking pictures because it is lightweight. All metal construction with no ball head and has rubber feet at the tips of the tripod legs to keep it from sliding. Cheers! What is your take on a 60mm Full Frame prime Lens? I believe there should be one between 50mm and 85mm focal length.

Seems to me, if you're shooting video for RU-vid & you're on a budget - a used 70D for under £300 is a good option.

R100 is total rubbish. Just buy a m50 I. Total cr•p,

The r100 is just a bad choice.

The R100 cost $500.....if you want everything you complain about get the R7 or R50. Some of us just take family photos and kids soccer.
