CANON I Fix It? | MG5750 Printer That Doesn't Recognise INK!

This Canon Pixma Printer refuses to accept the yellow ink (error code 1684). Initially, I thought it was just going to be a case of cleaning the cartridge contacts... but it turns out, I was wrong (for a change!)
Let's see if we can FIX It?!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve

I'm really impressed in how calm you stayed during that. I've attempted to fix a lot of printers in my life time. I'm a pretty calm guy but printers make me lose it. It's like they purposefully made it extra hard.

@@moonblitz9923 100% agree. I feel like the "Right to Repair" movement should somewhere down the road push for these things to be made more easily repaired. Their engineers could easily do it and it would also reduce production cost. If it's easy to assemble it's easy to repair.

Kudos for pulling this through! When I first saw the thumbnail of you trying to fix an ink printer and the fact that the video is "only" 10 minutes, I thought you'd probably given up. I can't believe how calm you were during this, the fact that the printer survived at all means even your off camera moments of frustration were exceptionally well controlled. All of these printers are literally throw away items, here in Australia when your printer runs out of ink, it's cheaper to buy another complete printer then it is to replace the full set of ink cartridges. In 2020 during the full on pandemic + my final year of uni turned upside down, sadly my HP inkjet printer died due to complications brought on by a ball hammer 🤷‍♂️. Great channel 👍

My initial reaction is "why does it need a microchip in the ink container" and of course, it's a money grab to make sure you don't use ink from anywhere else but themselves so they can flog a cheap printer and have you over a barrel on ink costs. Anyway, rant over, great fix !

@@StezStixFix Thing is... A lot of Canon Printers work fine with refills. I have refills in mine at the minute and the only thing is, is that the software constantly reports that my inks are low even when they're not... because most refill companies don't see the point in reprogramming the chips in the carts. It'll be pretty evident in my printouts when certain colours start running out! Also, most printers are sold as a "loss leader" in the same way that games consoles are, so they're hoping to make a return on profit for the inks! Sneakers feckers!
@DalmaTon-Records
@DalmaTon-Records 2 года назад
@@MrVestek Yeah, but original Cannon inks are way better then chinese replacements. For example, their UV and enviromental resistance is way superior than replacement ones. Try to print some picture on a inkjet glossy photo paper with replacement and with original inks, and you will notice after some time that picture on these printed with replacement inks start to fade out and becomes very very pale, but picture printed with original ink catridges stays strong and vivid in colors even after many years... And second thing that I can think off right now is the fact that some cheapest replacement inks can allegedly clogg the printhead out... But, I never bought original inks for my canons before and probably never will because of their rip off price. They are as Steve said at least 3x more expensive than replacement ones. I've had 2 Canons, one some years ago (pixma ip4850), and the other (pixma ip 7250) bought a few years ago, still sitting here on my desk next to me. Both with errors where orange led flashes a few times. I've looked online and found that orange led on my canons flashes out a printhead error. And on both printers the same - printhead error. Now I don't know what to do, it turns out that is better to just buy a new printer because the new original printhead costs almost like a full new printer. Crazy, I know, but it is like it is... Anyways, in my experience inkjet printers are generally one big pain in the ass and to maintain and to own. Cheers!

Someone had stuffed a lot of margarine in it, so it needed to be taken apart and cleaned, after which the paper feed mechanism stopped working - so after another taking-apart it worked and has been fine since. The build tolerances of these things must be so fine; it was made by a machine and probably designed by one too. Humans are intended to be users only.

Hi, I stumbled into this video yesterday, and I couldn't help myself laughing out loud when looking at your reaction of the printer's noises, because I too have the same reaction with my Canon MG7510, This MG7510 is working for 6 years in my work station, many times producing these strange noises before printing or scanning. It so happened that a couple of weeks ago a strange behaviour started to creep up: I would turn the printer on, and after a few moments it would turn itself off. A technician from Canon told me that this glitch was affecting many of their printers, and to my surprise, he advised me to turn off my local router and disconnect the printer from my LAN. Instead, I should use a USB cable for the time being. At this point I was rather intrigued and had difficulties understanding what was going on. The technician did not explain anything, he only said Canon engineers were looking into it. I searched for some info on the Internet and I read people claiming that by going to the printer's web service setup and inserting a fake DNS IP address the printer would work on-line again. Apparently, when working on-line these Canon machines would resort to a web site of their own, and only later print whatever the user requested. However, the final solution to this glitch was being made in a new firmware release, which would update the printer via the afore mentioned USB cable only. I was later given the link to the new firmware installer, which did the trick as promised. Still, no clear explanation was available to me why this DNS error managed to affect a number of Canon machines. Go figure! Be as it may, having the Canon (or any other printer for that matter) offline, is a complete waste of local resources, and, needless to say, I haven't used a printer USB cable for decades now. Congrats on your video, it shows how unexpected these things are.

And hardly any ink leaks or blood. I think we had a pixma at one point. Its was fantastic until it died, perfect photo printing, there were dubious looking websites offering ink tank upgrades with kits you could buy from russia . You can get printers with ink tanks now and you fill up the tank from bottles which sounds messy but is actually not and is way better for your bank account. Having had printers that lasted literally a year with the cartridges costing more than the printer, they have come a long way.

My HP printer has a factory defect, where it randomly decides to freeze on boot up. It happens because this printer was made the year HP decided to not use leaded solder on they motherboard(can't remember what year that was off the top of my head). So basically the solder joints Crack on the board and it can't get a good enough connection. So the easiest way to fix it, is by reflowing it by putting it in the oven at 200 Celsius for about 8 minutes. I've done it before and if works, but its probably not the best solution to fix it.

We literally throw away a couple of printers each month because the customers do not want to spend so much money when they can actually just buy a new one. I don't even keep them for spares. Another frustrating one Stez. You sure ain't picking the easy ones at the moment. 🤪 Only this time your subject wants to upstage you. 😂 I wonder if the connection was slightly loose and was only affected when the ink arm (is that the term?) moved. Once it thought there was an issue, it maintained the thought of there being an issue. Sometimes modern tech is too smart for it's own good. At least it's working; a new printer and a new shape of ink cartridge is just a crazy thought, particularly with ink prices.

Canon printer: a black box that tells you when to go out to buy ink, even if you don't use it. Luckily I found a supplier for aftermarket ink cartridges that can get a refill and reset the chip automatically. It's a bit of a hassle to get it working, but when you get the procedure, it is a piece of cake and you can print for only 10% of the price of the original cartridges.

I thought this might end up like the printer in the movie Office Space!

I had the same printer long time ago, and evetime you lift the front up to put ink in it, the caddy would shoot a crossed about where it would sit so you can put ink in it and then it shoot back to the right where you can't get to it, I had to unplug it, open the front up, plug it back in and wait for that ink caddy to move where I can put ink in it and unplug it, that printer was so annoying lol

I've got that printer, it does it's own thing all the time. The wife thinks it's a Poltergeist and won't leave it switched on overnight! 😅

It might say "Yellow" but it could mean any of the other colors. It gives the impression that the ink system is smart and it would know exactly what cartridge is bad but any of the carts can be faulty and interfere with the communications of the other cartridges. It might not even be "Yellow" ...

is there a fix to make it chipless yet? I'm missing a pin on mine so it won't recognize the black ink. I found the part of ebay $20 but I can't see myself taking it apart to that extent 😱

You're lucky it wasn't glued together, the printer, despite it's complexity, is considered a disposable item. I bought my Canon MG3650 for £29 in Tesco's - Two replacement cartridges were £48 - you should get a free printer when you buy a pair of cartridges. It's nearly cheaper to buy a new printer just to get the included ink jet cartridges and throw the printer away, that's eco friendly. I can't imagine this happening a few years, you bought a Typewriter for 50p but a new ribbon was £349.

People have been printing things from home for decades and somehow we've gotten to a point where it's cheaper and more convenient to get in your car and go somewhere to pay to have things printed whenever you need them.

I just print to a PDF file and email it to the copy shoppe. Haven't bought ink in 20 years and I get Laser printouts cheap.

We should expect that the problem would go with the change of contact position? But obviously it don’t

Mine is saying to contact a repair centre and printing blank pages. I’ve removed all cartridges, the PGBK and Y seem to have leaked at some point, and I suspect the leakage has gone hard and blocked something. Any ideas?

I can't believe you managed not to smash the fucking thing into another dimension, I have one of these and feel like doing that when I'm just using it. Also the 30 minutes of fucking wirring noises it makes before printing something is totally normal.

I've acquired at fruit machine,I plugged it in and the switch on the power supply was smoking, I replaced the switch and I've changed the backup battery on the motherboard and there's still no life,on more inspection I've noticed a capacitor with a bulged top,is this a possible cause for the machine being dead.
