The Canon M50 is one of the most popular cameras on the market, but lens selection has always been a criticism of the EOS M line. Today I’ll cover my favorite lenses for everything from portrait work, street photography, landscape, real estate, wildlife and macro photography.
We’ll look at EF-M lenses from Canon and some third-party options and we’ll talk about what each lens is good for. And my goes is to help you figure out which lenses you should buy for your Canon M50. There are some great EF-M lens options from #sigma that a lot of people overlook. My favorite portrait lens for the M50 is the #sigma56mm .
Finally, I’d love to know which lenses - native or adapted - you use with your #CanonM50, or which #canon #efmlenses on this list was your favorite.

This is THE most informative video I have seen on lenses. The fact that you're referencing them against the M50 and M6 mk2 is great, too many youtubers forget that the general public doesn't have 10 - 15K to wax on camera kit. I hope Canon offer you a sponsorship. Thank you.

I bought the M50 mark II last year with the 18-150mm kit lens and took it to Dubai Expo 2020. I’m ashamed to say I’m still a novice at photography and used it a lot just in auto mode. However I was surprised at how well most of the shots came out. I returned to the UK and bought the smaller 11-22mm kit lens. Thank you for this video. I’m still getting to grips with the basics of aperture, iso and shutter speed so looking forward to getting out more to use it (once the UK stops raining!)

Love your videos. I use the kit 15-45mm, the Canon EF 75-300mm with the EF-EFM adaptor, and recently bought the Sigma 30mm. I would say the downside of the 75-300mm is that it weighs more than the body, but it's extremely useful when shooting animals and the image quality is superb. Next, I'd probably get the EF-M 11-22mm for landscape photography, unless someone else makes an EF-M mount wide-angle lens. But I do want the other two Sigma lens, and possibly a macro lens (like the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art) in the near future.

The Canon macro was a good part of why I picked the M6mk2. I’ve done a lot of close up shooting but never with a “real” macro lens. Also, trying to step up from 1” to APS, I didn’t want to give up macro abilities, even if it does mean swapping lenses. Still, I’m really impressed (vs my 35mm film memories) with how close the Canon lenses can get.

Thank you for your review. I’m thinking to buy the 22mm f2 for low lights situations. But what do you think about the 18-150mm ? I already have the kit lens 15-45mm but I’m hesitating to combine it with the 55-200mm or buy the 18-150mm to just have one polyvalent lens.
@radellaf
@radellaf 2 года назад
It has been a year, what did you end up doing? Personally, I went for the 22 and 55-200. I wanted the extra 50mm, and better optical performance (though it’ll probably never make a noticeable difference). 22 for low light, or compactness. If I was traveling and didn’t want to carry extra lenses, though, the 18-150 would be the one.

Hi Sagi, thanks for this great comprehensive review! I recently bought a Canon M6 Mark II after watching your videos. I bought the body only and bought the fantastic sigma 16mm 1.4 efm. These are a great combination. Now, I’m thinking of buying a second lens. I’m between Sigma 56mm 1.4 efm or Canon 55-200mm IS STM f4.5-6.3. I wanna have one of these two lenses for both headshot outdoor videography and portrait photography. Could you please tell me which lens do you recommend? I use the 22mm f2 with my M100 most of the time. Love it. I already had some EF-S lenses, so I bought an adapter off eBay and use it with a 50mm 1.8 and 35mm 2.8 macro. It makes it a little heavier than the 28mm macro would be, but still works really well. Great video!

I just bought an M50 as an upgrade for my old T5, and I am going to pick up the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for the marketing photos of my dress store, the Canon 22mm f/2 for my youtube music videos, and just use the kit lens for everyday use. I also have a couple of nice telephoto lenses from my T5 that I will be using as well. This helped a lot!

Excellent .. Amazing skillset of sharing all the necessary details for a newbie like me. Please share if M50 would be an ideal choice along with which lens for RU-vid Travel Vlogs. I previously would shoot on GoPro 8 but now decided to move to proper vlog setup. Thanks

Thanks for another great video! This is a great overview of the AF lens options for the EF M system. I decided to try some fast manual lenses first so that I can find the focal lengths I like using the most. Once I know that I shoot most of the time for example with my TTArtisan 50mm 1.2 lens, I can then upgrade to the Sigma 56mm 1.4 if I need AF. Currently I don't really need AF, because I'm still a beginner-intermediate hobbyist. But for professional work, it would be too slow and risky of course :) For learning, it's awesome, it slows you down so that you focus more on each picture, rather than shooting lots of photos.

Well, the AF thing is a neverending debate when it comes to pro work, but mostly it's each to their own, since the results etc count, not the gear or mode. Years ago I used mostly manual, AF was unreliable at times and not fast enough, nowadays almost only AF as the gear has gotten so good that I can control the focus plane with AF on and it doesn't "hunt" like old gear used to. That, plus I'm lazy lol, but on a serious note you can use AF as a ease-of-use/speed thing if you time it right, but you need to be fast on the shutter. I use EF/EF-S glass on EOS M too, and the AF tends to start "hunting" after a second or two, by hunting I mean it will snap to focus and slowly defocus and require another 'wake up' press on the shutter to snap to focus again.

Hey man, great content and I love the way you actually explain the details properly in all your videos. I'm curious to ask if the Sigma 18mm-35mm f1.8 is suitable to be placed on a gimbal like the dji ronin sc2 for its size after adding on a speed booster/adapter to the canon m50?

I'm learning so much from your videos man thanks so much for the effort, quality and clarity you give us with the easy to understand information. My question, I'm building a RU-vid channel focusing on app reviews and product unboxings in the classic top down overhead shot. I'm using the M50 at 4K 24fps so the huge crop factor is causing me a problem as I'm using the kit lens. The other issue I face is my room has little natural light so even with a lighting set up, the low light performance on that kit lens doesn't cut it. The first mistake I made was buying a Viltrox speedbooster as it doesn't fit the kit lens so I'm sending it back. The second mistake was buying the 22M F/2 as although it fixes the low light issue, I still have the huge crop problem when shooting at 4K. Given the type of video I am trying to create and mainly to fix the crop issue whilst retaining that great low light performance, can I get the results I need with the Sigma 30mm? As it's within my budget or is the Sigma 16mm the only option for me? Or do you have any better suggestions?

Great Video Dude! I have been looking for a decent in depth look at lenses for the M50 for a while, and now I have found it, I think judging on this video I'll be looking at the Sigma 30mm as it's a comparable to the nifty 50 which I was in love with when using my previous camera, I think it will be ideal as I'm mainly a talking head YT channel, Thanks Again!
