Thank You , you just answered my question about taken pictures .. Everyone was talking about the vlogging and not pictures taking .. A Big Thank You Again .. you sold me on buying this Camera for sure ..❣💖😉
update: I did purchase the canon trigger and also the AD400 pro. The M50 Delivers awesome images again for me this weekend. I wish we could share photos in our posts. Thanks again for the great content guys.!
I just switched from using my Nikon D4s and a 70-200 2.8 to the Canon M50 mk II with the Sigma 56mm 1.4 for all my portrait shooting. I purchased the battery grip with the 18650 batteries which solves the battery life time... I had the M50 for my real estate photography, and decided I was tired of lugging around the big heavy cameras on location for portraits. The camera never misses focus, especially with the eye detection and face recognition. I use it with my off camera flash AD200 and the nikon trigger, because I only shoot flash in manual mode so I didnt even need to get the canon version... ( only need that for ttl) Thanks for the great videos guys.!!
As a new photographer who has zero formal training they offer some excellent information! I do real estate photography and video but people have been asking for headshots so this is awesome info! Thanks so much guys!
Great video. I've been using the M50 for a few months now and I was still wandering whether I should have purchased a more professional setup. you showed me that I can be very happy with my budget gear. thank you.
I bought an m50 and like my photos, I've seen people with much more fancy, full frame gear take underwhelming pictures. It all boils down to the photographer's abilities.
I love these kinds of comments as much as the video and even more when the video is lacking in any way. Sone times crappy videos provoke great comments that make up for it. I also have an m50 and do not regret the purchase in any way. It's a fantastic camera . What can NOT be done with an m50? Nothing! Have fun taking photos and video. It's so much fun.
It's definitely a nice small camera. But unfortunately in a professional situation where you are being paid to work. Clients don't want you showing up with a small camera like that. As a travel camera it's perfect. But you really can do almost anything with it. The one place where it is lacking is in low light photography when you can't use a tripod.
I have recently bought the M50 with 22mm f2.0 lens, and it’s an amazing little set. I’ve been using 70D before, with various lenses but it became a nightmate to carry with all the necessary equipement. The M50 is small, light and as good as my DSLR!
Hi guys, great little video series on the M50. I'm looking forward to watching the 3rd episode after watching the first 2. Just a few tips: the camera has eye-detection AF, so that would be better for your portrait tests. The camera is highly customisable, so you can bring a lot of the common settings to your buttons. I bought the M50 for street photography and I have these custom settings - M-Fn button changes ISO; record button (when not in video mode) sets focus mode (face/subject tracking, zone AF, single point AF); up-arrow toggles between aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation; down-arrow toggles between EVF and LCD screen (I don't like it auto switching); left-arrow toggles between one-shot and servo AF; right-arrow brings up drive mode. Leave the Q menu on your next most used setting, e.g. White balance or flash compensation, and every time you hit the Q button - white balance or flash compensation is already selected and ready for immediate adjustment. The camera can be triggered remotely by your mobile phone/tablet/PC or you can buy Bluetooth BR-E1 remote control. You may want to read this article on how to set it up: dancarrphotography.com/blog/2018/03/31/canon-eos-m50-and-br-e1-bluetooth-remote/ Obviously there's 2sec and 10sec timers too. As for slow response in taking shots, I haven't seen that issue. I turned off image preview, so I take a shot and can immediately take another without a preview of the last shot taken popping up. It is slightly slower than DSLR response times, but not slow enough to be an issue. I definitely see no difference in lag between using the EVF or LCD screen. I'd recommend getting used to using the EVF with custom buttons set up as it not only speeds up your work flow, but it's also easier to see in bright sunlight, not to mention being a steadier way to hand-hold the camera. Once again, great videos, thanks for making them.
Thanks for all of the tips! My problem is I have two different cameras with two different setups right now. It's a bit confusing. I'm used to my Nikon. I suppose over time I'll figure it out. Thanks!
I've now watched the first two videos of this series and while I bought my M50 primarily for my RU-vid channel recording, you've shown me how capable it is for still photography if it has a decent lens on it. Thank you!
We did the same thing. Turns out it's a great little camera for stills also. part 4 is about travel if you want to check that one out we put it up last week. Thanks for watching!
Fascinating. I am currently drawing up a list of moderately priced cameras with APS-C sensors and 4K video capability to decide on which one to buy for my travels. Your video on the Canon EOS M50 has just helped me push it to the top of the list.
@@BillEricPhotography Even with the Gen 2 improvements, the MSRP has been kept low at only $599.00. While there are no radically new features, improved AF and clean HDMI out sound interesting. Always love to hear your takes on gear.
I watched the videos that Canon has on their website and they look like decent upgrades. Seems like it has the same sensor so the low life performance isn't getting any better. For my needs I probably wouldn't need to upgrade at this point. Hopefully I can get my hands on one and give it a test drive.
@@BillEricPhotography The face detect is great but it can even better if you're using a 1.2 or 1.4. Turn on eye AF and it will find the eye. Please watch this 1 minute video from Canon. I shoot portraits with this only. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VUTdR758XfU.html
Just subbed. I really like this series on the M50 and the comparisons with the larger cameras. The name of your channel threw me off as I'm not really interested in Disney theme parks. Lol. Glad it turned out to be a lot more useful.
We are both primarily photographers. We happened to gain popularity with our Disney images. We do occasionally talk Disney but it usually has some sort of photography angle. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! We are so pleasantly surprised by the M50. Takes some getting used to the feel, it just doesn’t feel as significant as a big DSLR. But it is just as capable!
We did a video on that a couple of months ago. I think the my might be a bit better but the M50 an easier camera to use with a better layout and ergonomics.
I think the m50 is the best deal of all time, but it's not sensible to suggest that it compares to a high end camera in any way unless the high end camera is defective. I doubt that I will ever buy a high end camera because I will never appreciate one and I am so content with my m50 with my speed booster and other gizmos and gadgets. My fave lens is the canon 22mm f/2. I just got the canon ef-s 55-250. One of my dreams is an easy way, or adapter to use an ef-s lens with a speed booster. There are hack parts that work but it involves unscrewing and rescrewing, which could screw things up. Too much screwing is never recommended. I am waiting for a hack part which is a mount replacement for that exact lens, the ef-s 55-250 so the lens will become an ef, which connects to the speed booster. I never was this excited waiting for an eBay delivery. Gréât vidéo, thanks. One critique is that the sound of the video when you are on the computer, is not great. Last question. Is super sharp always what you want for a portrait? M50 is great for anything except using it as a hammer for construction. PLEASE KEEP MAKING VIDEOS AND SPEND PLENTY OF TIME RESPONDING TO COMMENTS. I LOVE GETTING A RESPONSE TO EITHER ANSWER A QUESTION OR PUT ME IN MY PLACE WHEN I SAY SOMETHING STUPID.
I think anytime you want to create a nice image it should be sharp. Especially if you have to do a lot of editing to it. The reason we use the high-end camera as a comparison was to see how good the M50 really is. And while it is not pro level camera I doubt that you can tell the difference between the two images if we didn't tell you.
I like watching you two. It's like "Wicked Tuna" but with photography instead of tuna fishing. Much less blood. Just remember, conflict is king in story-telling. Maybe do some "adventure" photography. You could blow up. 1000 to 66 love/hate ratio. Damn good. That's six haters out of every 100 who care enough to register an opinion. You'd get that many haters on the best episode of Game of Thrones. I wish you RU-vid money. I subscribed, hit the notification bell and watched the video to the very end. $. Put out one-to-three videos a week. No need for more.
Hi, this video is a few years old now and I have since changed some of the lenses I use with my M50. I actually traded in the Tamron 11 to 22 that I was using and I now have all native mount EOS M lenses. I have an 11 to 22, a 22 mm, 15 to 45,. I really use this camera mostly for vlogging and street type photography. I don't have a need for a telephoto lens with it. My kit is now nice and small and compact and I don't need any adapters.
This was great. Great information, great presentation. Nice job and well done. It gave me a lot of information since I just bought the M50 with a 50mm lens and adapter.
Thanks, I think the adapters for the M50 make it very versatile. If you also get the speed booster you really can use any lens for a Canon Mount at its actual focal length.
hello sr.... i want to buy a dslr, for group photography, wildlife, outdoor photography and some time capture weeding photography, and little bit video recording, main purpose is photography... so which camera is best canon 77D vs canon M50
They both will do all of that. The M50 is nice because it's smaller and can be used with any Canon lense. You really need to handle both to see which one feels better to you.
You could. The speed booster will give you a 50 mm equivalent and the regular Canon adapter will give you closer to an 80 mm equivalent. For that camera though I would just get the 22 mm f2. It's a better lens. I am finding that the native m-mount lenses are all pretty good and it keeps the camera nice and compact. Bill
I cannot afford a full frame camera, so the crop sensor was fine until now. I ran across a a few articles about speed boosters. my understanding was it would take the light from your lenses, and focus them fully on the cropped sensor. am I correct with that? I have a pretty good set of lenses for the SL3, so my idea was to get a speed booster that fits the SL3 lenses, and be able to focus the full light onto the crop sensor of the SL3. Am I correct? Is that how it works?
Not really your SL3 is also a crop sensor camera. The speed booster is made to be used with full-frame lenses like Canon EF lenses not EFS lenses. The theory with the speed booster is it takes for argument's sake of 50 mm lens and instead of having an 82 mm crop factor it'd reduces the image coming through the lens down onto the sensor so you get the full 50 mm instead of having it cropped with the smaller sensor. So if you have EFS mount lenses all you need is the regular Canon adapter to use them on the M50.
Hi Bill I see that you're primarily a Nikon shooter. I am too. I have a D7200 for which I have some really nice Sigma and Tamron glass. Do you know how I can possibly use these lenses on a canon M50 with all the connectivity, as it would save me loads of money on lenses if I could use these on both cameras?as I can't find a suitable adapter. Cheers Ian
@@BillEricPhotography Oh well. The M50 arrived today, so spend more money it is then. I've got the kit lens to familiarise myself with the camera and I've ordered the Sigma 16mm f1.4 as I think Sigma make great lenses. I'll buy second hand for anything else second hand and use the Viltrox adapter. Thanks for the videos.👍
As a beginner with zero knowledge.. can u suggest me a lens for m50 that is good for family photo, travel photo? M confuse should I get 22mm or still lens or range lens
Love the video, I use my older Canon 80mm ultrasonic lens for portraits & street photography! The nifty 50 is great but Ive found it better for capturing that shadow depth of field I get with my more expensive L-lens.
I actually just sold my 5DmkIV for this very reason. I can't see any difference at all. And using the money I can buy more lenses and/or another body. It felt like the money you spend goes into the build quality, water sealing etc. and I found that way overkill for me. You can never skimp on optics though. That actually shows.
Thank you so much for this video. It is frustrating how many reviews there are for the m50 specifically for video (it is a vlogging cam, I understand) But if I wanted to take it further for photography it's definitely informative on what's the best lenses for portrait photography, which I'm looking to do as well. What do ya'll think is the absolute best lens for M50 for portrait? Still the Canon 85mm?
With evf m50 is little slow you said? Need reconfirmation guys. Also using d pad can't you move focus points supposing you are not shooting ppl, using evf I mean. I am going for the setup for mostly photography man and I love evf. Please push me to the right direction. Thanks
@@BillEricPhotography I meant while using evf. I am coming from large dslr body and taking care of each aspect with wheels and buttons. no complaints just that it is a big setup, I want to switch to sth small. Thanks.
This video was early on in our use of the camera. We are more familiar with all of the setting now. It's turned out to be a very nice small mirrorless camera. Thanks for watching!
Bill is hilarious! I use the m50 with the 22mm lens. I used the nikon d3100 with the 50mm lens before and i prefer the images I got with that camera but the video i get with the m50.
Can you tell us what settings/picture profile you are using to achieve the results of this video? Your videos and pics are the best I’ve seen come out of the m50.
Thanks Juan, we both shoot in raw so we don't use any of the baked in picture settings. The camera captures the most information that way and then when we bring the images into Lightroom we have the most information to work with. We both definitely recommend shooting this way. There is the extra step of having to edit the pictures but the results will always be better.
Hi sir, uhm can I ask question why some other photographer complains that using the speed booster in the m50 can give a little bit of a compromise in detail and sharpness but in video I think it isn't. If you encounter that or notice it and have some way to combat it please let me know thank you :) .
You can clearly see in the video that there is no loss of image quality in the tests that we did. Can’t explain the results other photographers claim to be getting. Our tests and reviews are based on real world use, not in a laboratory.
@@BillEricPhotography Yes sir I was amazed on what the m50 can do and can give and by your reviews and your answer I am convinced and have the confidence with my own canon m50 thanks a lot sir continue to make great and quality content. 😃
This is by far the best series for the M50. I have a question because I am strangling between the M50 and A6000. They have the same price in Greece both with the kit lenses but Sony have plus the 55-210. I have a tight budget and I do not know which one is the best as it is for photography. Can you please tell me what do you would prefer between those two?
I didn't realise you could move the focus point around with the back screen while looking through the viewfinder -- how cool is that! Thanks for an informative video. What do you reckon about the 55-200mm kit lens? If you back up a bit I guess you could get more bokeh on the background with the M50?
You probably could if you zoomed in tight but you are already losing some depth of field with a smaller sensor. You really want to try get the widest aperture lenses you can. Of course those lenses are quite a bit more money.
Very similar in landscapes also. The L lenses will have an advantage in colorful situations and in the extremes of low light. Focusing should be a little faster with the L glass too.
Another great video thanks for making me jealous of the m50 makes me sad when I look at the M10 , good posing Bill I'm sure Gucci will be calling soon 😉
Hi! Thanks for the M50 video series. I'm just starting with my new one and I find your videos so useful! I just wanted to ask you about one thing that is bothering me. In some photos I have the impression that the camera adds some "noise". They are shot under good illumination, the camera is steady and I guess I got a good exposure (with very low ISO). I had this problem with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 stm (both with Canon adapter and Viltrox speedbooster), and with the Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. Have you experienced that issue? Do you think it's the camera or am I doing something wrong? Thank you!
Really the only thing that's going to cause noise in your images is when you raise up the ISO. When you say low ISO what do you mean? I have noticed with the M50 even is owes as low as 500 can produce grainy images.
@@BillEricPhotography Thanks for the fast answer! I had some noise even at ISO 100. It's somehow baffling for me, because I hadn't such a grainy photos with my previous camera (Canon EOS 450D). I'll make more tests to find out how to solve that. I'm sure I will learn in the meantime.
Awesome bro! I’m waiting my Viltrox speed booster to arrive... One question! When using it, did you go the “2 stops down” on the aperture? I mean, did you use the 85 f1.4 on full “f1.0” or just used it on f1.4? The 50mm 1.8 on “1.2” or 1.8? Thanks bro!
Disney Image Makers yeah yeah I know, I was wondering what setting did you use on those shots... Fully open? Or 1.4? Some say on fully open, it kind of damages image quality
Hi, i've seen multiple reviews that demonstrated the viltrox speed booster degrading sharpness even on L glass. Your demo here seems to refute that which is a great endorsement for the booster.
We didn’t see any difference between the shots taken with and without the Viltrox booster. Since this video we’ve been using it a lot and have no complaints. I’m sure there is some effect on the image, but in real world use it’s hard to see.
Salaam young boys, stay blessed, dears my English is very bad but I trying. Sir can you suggest! I have m50 with canon mount adapter and 15-45+55-250mm lenses, but I want to more zoom for wildlife photography and videos, you know about very well lenses are so expensive, you understand what I want saying, please suggest you can suggest any third party lenses,,, thanks
Hello...thanks can u please make a video containing shoots with canon m50 in different lighting conditions...i am planning to buy so ill have to sure enough to decide..
very useful as I have just bought an M50....there seems to be the same background audio noise in the studio as outside....did you have the outside audio track running while doing the indoor lightroom edit part?
Thanks Tom, as you can probably tell we are rookies at best with video. We are still learning to iron out The kinks with the audio and even the video portion of our videos.
thanks for the reply....no probs at all it didnt distract from the info at all though....and very useful info it was ...I bought the m50 mainly for vloging which I plan to do in the future and general family video....BUT it's reassuring to know that it's a pretty capable stills camera as well and your channel is of good use for info regarding that Keep up the good work :)
Yes, the camera itself will be great for what you need. For product photography, the more important things are the lighting and the lenses. For lighting, definitely check out shooting tents or something similar, basically like a soft box that you put your products inside.
@@BillEricPhotography thank you. I'm trying to kill three birds with one stone. I need it for my online business, I'd love to take pictures of my family and I'd love to record home movies of my kids. Thanks for your quick response.
The Fuji is a great little camera. It really depends which lens system you are already invested in. If you have Canon glass already than the M50 makes sense if you are starting fresh I think either one would be good but you will always be inside of fuji's mirrorless system. if you buy Canon glass you can always jump into a bigger full frame DSLR if you want at some point.
@@BillEricPhotography most ppl said M50 is more to video shoting and Vlog purpose. People rarely recommend M50 for photo shooting. I am wanna buy a new set of system although i used to be canon user, lol..
Hi,if it was me I would go with the m50. I think it's a more modern camera with better features. The sensor is the same but the m50 has a newer processor. I think with adapter it's a very versatile camera. You really need to handle both to see which one feels better to you.
Hi!! Thank you for this review. I’ve been shopping around for a new camera. I’ve used canon point and shot up til now. Was wondering if this camera is good for action shots? Sports events, fireworks, a lot on motion and also low light? Thank you for any info.
The camera is great but there are some limitations. For fireworks, there is no input for a cable release. You can trigger the camera through the app but it’s not the same. For sports and motion, it’s very good the autofocus is fast and accurate. For low light/high iso situations it’s more grainy than the DSLR’s at high iso (3200+).
If you want to weather proof it check out the Peak Design shell small I just got one I can go out in unpredictable weather with confidence now. The Canon BR-E1 works well as a remote shutter for the M50 if you don't want to use the phone app.
I didn't notice any drop-off in image quality. I think that's more something you have to worry about with the lens. The 50 mm f 1.8 is definitely a little bit softer than the 24 to 70 L lens that I used with the speed booster. But there's also a $1,500 price difference between them.
I have the perfect experiment for you. I am just starting in professional photography. I bought a Canon EOS-M5 because I wanted to start with mirrorless, but, just starting the funds are limited. I am putting together my lens kit. Here are the lenses that I am looking to purchase, but there is a test that would appreciate it if you guys could help with. I believe you already have a set up that would be similar. New Canon EF-M 22mm f/2.0 STM Pancake Lens Tamron SP B005 17-50mm f/2.8 Di-II XR VC IF AF Lens TAMRON SP AF 28-75mm F2.8 XR Di LD MACRO A09 Tamron 70-210mm f4 Di VC USD Canon EF Zoom Lens Viltrox EF-EOS M2 0.71x Lens Mount Adapter - focal reducer The Viltrox is where I would love to see a test performed. because the M5 (or M50 as it’s basically the same) is an APS-C sensor. The Viltrox adapter/focal reducer will reduce the crop to 1.13 and add a stop of light. With the above selections, effectively I get 3 f/2.0 lenses and the 70-210 becomes an f2.8. It would be awesome to, not only, hear your thoughts on this, but super awesome if you did a video on a set up like this on an APS-C. To see your photo quality, and to know if this would be a good idea and a way to cheat to get high priced lens equivalents at super inexpensive prices. A kit to get started until I can pay for the real deal. Would love to know your thoughts.
You definitely want the 22mm, and the 17-50 and 70-210 will cover all of your other needs. Don’t bother with the 28-75 there’s too much overlap with the wider zoom. And the Viltrox for sure, gives you lots of flexibility using the tamron lenses.
Excellent video Guys.. One question, I did purchase cannon EOS M50 a month back and would like to know, is there any way in image settings to take old .CR2 RAW format instead of the new . CR3 RAW format. This is because the new .CR3 RAW format is not recognized in most photo editing software like "Affinity photo" etc. Is there any any to get images of old RAW format . CR2 from Canon EOS M50 ? Please have your suggestions. Many thanks !
@@BillEricPhotography Thanks so much for your reply . Noted it. And yeah, i got your point.. But i only have ipad device with me and dont have desktop.. Subscribed your channel. Thanks !
@@BillEricPhotography That's what i was planning. Does it support .CR3 RAW file ? Please do confirm. I searched in google , unable to find a confirmed answer yet. Thanks !
Hello bro. I just got the M50. I am not a pro. What setup you are using to shoot the M50? The manual? The auto? The special one for scenes? If the manual, can you share the details on how to set the settings? ISO and other stuff. I tried to take some shots last day using the basic lens that comes with the M50. I do not get sharp clear photos specially on an object moving.
So I would say 95% of my shooting is in aperture priority or on a Canon it's cold AV mode this will let you control how much light you let into the lens. typically if you are trying to shoot a car and you want to freeze it in motion you're going to want a fast shutter speed like one five hundredths of a second or faster. I would go to the iso settings and put it on auto. Then make the aperture as open as possible so with the kit lens that would be something like 3.5. during the daytime you should have no problem shooting at a fast shutter speed with those settings. If it starts to get dark out you might see that the shutter speed is slowing down even in auto ISO. then you might want to shoot in manual mode set your shutter speed and your aperture and then the iso will adjust accordingly depending on the light. Hope that helps.
We did, both of the adapters work as they should. It's just when you use the speed booster the focal length stays at around 50 mm. The regular Canon adapter makes it about 80mm.
@@BillEricPhotography wouldn't that have made the 50mm more comparable to the 85mm? I still loved the video, I'm just wondering if that might've helped give the 50 more bokeh
It's somewhere in that range I said 80 mm but it could be 85 that 1.6 crop factor is a little odd. You need to pull out a calculator to figure this stuff out!Nikon's 1.5 crop factor is a little easier to work with! 😆
@@BillEricPhotography it is 80mm on the 1.6 crop canon has. I'm just thinking that it would've been a closer comparison to use the speed booster with the 85 but the regular adapter on the 50 so they would be closer and the background might've compressed more at that focal length vs keeping it at 50
We used the speed booster on the 85 mm with the M 50, Keeping that focal length at about 85 mm.We use the regular adapter with the 50 mm on the M 50 making the crop factor focal length on that about 85 mm also.
Disney Image Makers that would be great. I was a little confused when the 24-105 was saying f2.8 and the 50f1.4 was saying f1.2 i think. Is that meant to be or is that a false reading
The aperture displayed in the camera is thrown off a bit by the speed booster, so it’s good to make sure you have the aperture set the way you need it.
Thanks, that's a good one to do if we can get our hands on the Sony. tomorrow's video will be about the M50 versus a full-frame Nikon d750. I think with all these cameras it really comes down to the lenses for photography and for video I think Canon and Sony both have good autofocus. I will say the a 6400 screen is in a terrible spot
