Tip from another post somewhere, edited for clarity: If you are not using the Canon CD or downloaded setup files, and you "simply" (!) want to connect your previously set up printer, you will need to know how to enter your WiFi router's password (passphrase) on the keypad. This will be frustrating to those who hoped to "simply" use a typical keyboard. 1) To enter your (WiFi router) passphrase using the keypad, at the screen where you enter your passphrase, in the top right corner of the LCD screen you should see a :1 . This indicates that you are in numeric entry mode. Let's say your password is in all lowercase letters, like "bobswifi". 2) When you press the asterisk key (*), the top right corner of the display will switch to :A (uppercase letter mode). Pressing the asterisk key again will switch to lowercase letter mode. 2) To enter a letter in lower case, press the associated key again (for example, press the key labeled '2ABC', to eventually select 'b'). Press the same key again, then again to cycle through the available letters for that key. For example: To enter a letter "b", you will press the "2" key three times. 3) Press the right-pointing arrow button (above the keypad) to shift the cursor to the next position. 4) Repeat (2) and (3) above until you have entered the entire password. (Use the left-facing arrow button (above the keypad) as needed to position the cursor to make a correction.) 5) Press OK when done. The LCD screen will say "Connected" if the password is correct.

My second time getting this printer it would've stayed the first but my kids spilled juice over it so had to purchase a second one. Got used to it the first time it's small and easy to use. Good thing this video is still up it helped me the first time to get it connected to my windows laptop. Great video on showing us step by step! Very helpful!😊

Did not work. I used several different methods and nothing. Going to call them tomorrow and if it doesn't work I am returning it. So fed up right now. It is so simple in all of the videos, but for some reason non of the methods are working.

Usually with Canon printers, you have to go to your Wifi list and manually change your PC wifi connection to the Canon one. It might be buggy and disconnect sometimes, so you might have to watch it and reconnect to it. After that you can proceed with the 4:15 step. Everything should work after that!
Got a new computer, can't find the disk, trying to set up printer with computer... none of the links work anymore. This was a great printer/scanner... they should not go obsolete in less than 4 years.

Thanks! Worked for me twice now. I had to have my old modem replaced and I was able to get through this much faster the 2nd time. I did have a memory lapse about jumping from letters to numerical. But, just went a little further into the video to see that the STAR key toggles back and forth for that. Thanks again!
I commented on the video on connecting with a smart phone, that it should be easier to connect the printer for use with a PC and smart phone instead of having to do separate steps for both. I also want to be able to connect with the USB cable in case the WIFI goes out. It's absurd how many different ways exist for what should be a simple setup.
IMPORTANT: If the setup software does not detect the printer on your network, make sure you have white-listed the installation software in your Windows firewall. This has to be done with MULTIPLE programs at several stages through the process, which is a step that the software only tells you to do after you have already done it. Even if you white list the initial installation and the printer is detected properly, you have to do it again with the second setup file at the end. You are better off just disabling any firewalls and anti-virus completely before installing.
well i turned off my firewall and it still did not work, this has been a total disaster to me a waste of money on a printer i can't even get to work a several days wasted with stress levels at the roof, i will have a heart attack or stroke and it will be canons fault !

It said "Newtwork connection is temporarily disabled during setup. Please wait" but than it said "Failed to perform cableless setup. Suspend the process and select other method by following instructions on the screens" What do I do?

I just changed my wifi network and now I can't reconnect my printer. I get through step one easily enough, but I can't find anywhere on my computer to configure it. IJ Network Tool says port cannot be used, and I can't find any solutions at all online, everything is for a new installation rather than a simple change of network.

I can do this, but I have to do it every time when I turn on the printer because otherwise it will just be not responding. It can't connect automatically to my laptop for some reason :(

Worst setup process ever. Tried their setup numerous times, with no luck of it working. I was able to connect by going to manual setup, selecting the router and entering the password. A 30-minute endeavor fixed in a minute. Wish they would have just instructed that or included the USB cable to connect. Will never buy another printer from Canon.
WHY DID YOU SKIP THE PRINT HEAD ALIGNMENT!!!! You went through every single step, even ones that were self explanatory but you didn't go through that one?!
Aftet several printing issues, I reinstalled the drivers. The whole process.... while printing a test page, the paper jammed. Then print again the header config... color printing... forever... 2 hours later, prints with lines... Canon MX490, what a piece of garbage!

It will work...you just have to know what you are doing. I didn't. I followed all the instructions to no avail. Called my tech guy and he had it hooked up in about 10 minutes. However, I might add he didn't use the instructions that Canon suggested.
