I compare the Canon RF 24-240mm and the Canon RF-S 18-150mm lenses on the Canon R6 & R7 while shooting landscape photography and 4K C-log3 video in the Vermont fall foliage!
The 18-150 mm is essentially same as EF-M 18-150 mm and the EOS M cameras did not support lenses with mandatory corrections. The original EOS M did not support any lens corrections (on geometry).
Thanks for the vid. The 18 - 150 is more than sharp enough for most purposes. The only real advantage of full frame seems to be the shallower depth of field where it's needed.
That and high ISO performance are the two areas I feel full-frame really shines. I personally prefer to use full frame but sometimes especially for wildlife photography I really value the extra 1.6 crop factor that an APS-C sensor provides. Great video with very informative insights! I’ve been watching your videos recently. I’m a beginner and planning to upgrade my skill and gears gradually. I’m planning to buy a Canon camera for nature, landscape, wildlife and family pictures. My choice is between R 8 and R 7 with 18-150 kit lens. Which one should I go for? Your suggestion would be great ! Thanks in advance!
For wildlife the R7 is the better camera because it provides extra reach getting you closer to your subjects. For landscapes and family portraits the R8 full frame would be the better choice because it provides a shallower depth of field and wider angles out of your lenses. Now that’s not to say you can’t shoot portraits or landscapes with the R7 you definitely can you just will need lenses that are really wide angle for landscapes and with fast apertures for portraits is all. PPNJ, Have you tried the RF 24-240 on the R7 and compered it’s image quality (being a FF lens) to the RF-S 18-150 on the R7? Although wide angel would be more limited, tele would reach further, and if the image quality is superior on the R7 compared to the RF-S 18-150 it may be a great lens in applications on the R7.

Nice presentation. Thanks. I have all this kit except the larger lens you used on the R6. The R6's sensor is 20mp and the R7's is 32mp. Would it be that the R6 does better in dynamic range relates to sensor pixel size? I think that may be true but I am just a learning advanced amateur. Thanks for introducing me to the RF 24-240 that I hadn't heard of. I have the RF 70-200 F4 but that doesn't get me down to the wide end. Hmmm. Maybe.
Hello and you’re very welcome. I know in canons cameras in general full-frame sensors have better dynamic range but I’m not sure if that’s because of the larger size but I would guess it has something to do with it. The RF70-200 f/4 lens I’m sure provides better IQ but I did want something that let me get pretty wide so I took the plunge in the 24-240 and overall it’s been a decent lens. A lens not sharp enough for the mere 20 megapixels of the R6 seems not really future proof to me... I'm using 24-105 4L on my R6, and this lens (at least my copy) is always tag sharp on my R6's 20 megapixels, even at F4. I can strongly recommend the 24-105 4L, though it has less zoom range.
Yeah I understand what you’re saying. It’s definitely not L glass sharp. I do like having the 24-240 but I use it as my walk around lens so I only use it for my casual photography. It’s a decent lens but canon made some questionable decisions with the lens distortion at 24mm. Thank you for watching the video man I appreciate it and hearing from you!
What do you mean by « future »? Is the 14-105 F/4 more « future-proof »? My old 50mm prime with a 90s tech absolutely obliterates my newish 24-105 F/4 .. so not sure 🤔
@@eric.p.merlin3537 Nothing to do with age, I just expect future full frame cameras to have more then 20 megapixels, so a general purpose zoom lens which is already not entirely sharp at 20 megapixels is not future proof to me. Primes will always outperform zooms in terms of sharpness. And there are many reasons to use old lenses, even manual focus ones. That said the 24-105 F/4 is a very nice general purpose zoom lens, and at least my copy is tag sharp at F4 on the R6 (which of course is no witchcraft on a 20 megapixel sensor).
Ha yeah I like it too. I use epidemic sound for all My audio so it’s from that. This was a while ago so I don’t remember what the title or artist was. If I can find it I’ll post it up for you.
Your pictures are nice, but you missed the topic. You should have taken pictures of the same scene with both cameras and then we could see for ourselves if there really are differences that you only talk about, we don't see them. We just have to take your word for it... But in this crazy world of advertising, I'm not sure if you intended to just get some benefit from Canon or to reveal the real facts to us.
