Whao, this is the FIRST video in RU-vid from this lens, with more than the basic informations and useless pixelpeeping, but with creative, real life great compositions and useable informations. Many thanks for this amazing video!
You’re most welcome glad you found the information useful, yeah I don’t pixel peep, and even if I do for my own sake once in a while I don’t make that as my main criteria to judge lenses, cos if it looks good and clear with my naked eye then I guess it’s good enough for me, but I understand for more critical stuff then there is a time and place for pixel peeping 😊 btw do consider subscribing if you’d like for more content like this 😊
This is a fantastic video for all of the reasons others have already said. The examples of photos and video, the editing, the information and opinion - it's all spot on helpful. This video was especially useful to me because it showed great examples of the compositions possible as well as vlogging and video demos. It's unbelievable how hard it was to find these things in other videos where somebody just sits at a desk holding the lens and yapping. This video was the deciding factor in me buying this lens. Thank you.
Awww that is so kind of you to say so , really appreciate it alot , thanks so much for watching, also do check out our affiliate links if you’d like , that would be greatly appreciated too 😊
Yours is the first video review I've seen of this special lens that actually shows some of the great compositions this lens is capable of (nice shots). I also like that this ultra wide angle lens is compact and lightweight. My Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens often got left behind because of its heft and size and when I did take it along another lens or a flash had to stay home. I can't wait til my RF16mm is in stock and shipped to me. I look forward to carrying more variety of lenses with less bulk.
Thanks, glad you agree with me on the bulk, i really miss having a variety of shots with different focal lengths, that was definitely lacking for me in my shots for so long, but now with this Nifty ‘Sixteen’ it’s a no brainer that it’s going to be in the bag everywhere I go! Btw did you get lens through my Amazin link ? Heheh
I agree. I couldn't find many good shots for consideration on Instagram with a hashtag search so I looked in RU-vid videos and this is the first one to actually do what you said. In fact, this video was the deciding factor in buying one. Both the stills example and the video samples were great and I'm thankful.
MasyaAllah thanks so much for your kind comments , glad you found this review helpful 😊 , btw do check out the affiliate links too if there anythg that interests u in this video 😊
This is the best review I have seen of this lens and a great comparison! Also a great edit, your example pics are actually good, and you have a good voice for youtube. Keep up the great work 👍🏻😁
Hey there! Thanks so much for your kind comments, really appreciate it! Btw if you do wanna get the lens there is a link to it in the description below if you’d like to grab one 😆👍😊
Thanks Qippy for this amazing video. Production quality is awesome, great content, too. Definitely a sleeper channel waiting to take off. I hope this happens soon.
I was have my doubts about this lens but the price made it attractive. Thanks for all the samples, based on your video, I’m definitely getting one👍🏿👍🏿😜🇯🇲🇯🇲
Precisely, it just got too cumbersome to lug the 16-35 just as an ‘just in case’ lens, so I ditched it, would be great though if they did make a real small and light version of it heheh, alas
Amazing what the short flange distance has allowed. For decades, the ultrawide options were $550 for the yongnuo 14mm, $650 for the Tamron 17-35mm, or $2000 for the Canon 14mm. Can't wait for the 2000mm F2.8 pancake.
Wow 2 years ago the 35 1.8 with the RF changed my photo style in close & tight perspectives. (small, light, swiveling screen) I will get on this 16mm as well due to the strengths in size & close up performance.
I just bought this lens. As you said, lugging around the 16-35mm f2.8 III for the few times I needed something wide wasn't worth the weight. Especially if the next lens is my 24-70mm f2.8. FYI...LR now has the lens correction profile. All the stars lined up. Also, thanks for pushing me to check out its 'macro' capabilities. I do love that 'look'.
Hey! Thanks so much for tuning in! Glad u love the lens, I live it too, the size just makes sense doesn’t it, anyway do check my links in the description if anythg does catch your eye 👍😊
Even though I use Sony now, one of the things I miss about Canon are the lens sizes. Sony lenses are massive and there are basically no full-frame pancake lenses in that system whereas many of Canon's lenses are small enough to get your camera and lens into a venue that allows lenses up to 3" in length. I would still prefer a prime to open up to at least F/1.8 since the nifty fifty kind of spoiled me when it comes to low light, but this 16mm F/2.8 isn't bad if you're trying to maintain a low profile.
Yup, i have to agree with you, sometimes having a small lens does matter as it allows us to get to places we can’t normally shoot without hassle, and that’s why I love it! Btw for a f2.8 lens I have to admit that I think the T-Stop in this lens is pretty good! Cos surprisingly, I wasn’t ever feeling that I was super handicapped at night with this lens in a well lit place, and I wasn’t pushing crazy 5 figures ISO’s like I normally would with most f2.8 lenses, however it’s definitely no f1.8 but it really isn’t bad especially with an IBIS on my R5, I was easily handholding stuff easily even at 1/40th and sometimes lower, a steal of a lens in my opinion 👍
Great review, i use this lens for real estate video, it's so light! i have the 14-35 but with the camera, cage, gimbal, it's way too heavy and can get cumbersome during long shoots. This lens is great!
I had pre-ordered this lens and ran out of time because I needed it for some projects. Adorama had no time frame when I would receive it. So.. I cancelled because they got the 14-35mm F4 L in stock.. yes it's a lot more $$$$. Thankfully, I ended up getting it for a good price. I do love the 14-35mm.. it's light and compact for what it is. And the combination of lens stabilization paired with my R6's in body stabilization, I was able to handhold a 1sec running water shot. I'm generally shooting at F8 anyway. Saying that, I will eventually want to snag that 16mm 2.8 stm.. it's such an amazing price and so damn compact. I'd never hesitate bringing it with me. I also have the rf 35mm 1.8 stm macro & rf 50mm 1.8 stm. I'm sure I'll love the 16mm too.
I’m sure u will definitely enjoy this lens, it’s such a nifty fifty of a 16 lens to have. Having bigger lenses to lug around around all the time makes me lazy to bring around after a while. Yeah i have the 35 1.8 macro and the 50 1.8 RF too, love them, in fact I’m working on a review for the 50mm soon, after I finish the other reviews i need to finish tht is 😅, btw if you do feel like checking out my amazon links to get something , feel free to do so 👍😊thanks for tuning in 👍😊
Use Canon Digital photo profesional to convert raw to tiff, and then use LR if you wanna. This way you get much better collors and fully corrected for distortion images. And Canon DPP is absolutely free.
I love your work here. IGreat job and review. I like you, hate the weight of the 15-35mm 2.8 RF. For street and all around I like a 24mm 2.8. Small and light all day carry. Not yet available for my R5. So until then I will use this! Please review the 24 mm 2.8 STM when it arrives if it arrives! Thanks again good job
Thanks so much for tuning in! Glad u found the review helpful, will try to do that then when it does come available, btw if u haven’t done already pls do so consider subscribing for more content like this in the future if you’d like 😊
Main reason why I sold this lens, is the insane barrel distortion. When corrected, the sharpness is quite bad in the corners. It's an OK lens for the price, and nice for travel and checking if ultra-wide is something you wanna use. But don't use it with high megapixel cameras, R5 is really not a camera that this should be used with.
Oh really, yeah I love it so much for travelling , plus I don’t need anything overly critical while on travel, in fact I am currently using it on my quick family excursion right now, hahah, I do wish I could have a lighter 24 1.4 , if it was light I would definitely love to bring it everywhere too, as that was the lens I brought with me everywhere before I got this lens 😅
@@QippysChannel sometimes this "slight" extra weight is just worth it. Yes. it's annoying, but also annoying when you know you could get so much more out of the place you're shooting by bringing on those extra grams :P But it's a valid point, heavy gear is heavy.
The only thing is it won't let me autobracket on the R5 and that was the only reason I bought it. Maybe canon will release an update that changes that but I doubt it. They did that for a reason. Otherwise it's an amazing lens for the price.
Oh is it. Who knows they might, cos I think they have cyber troopers everywhere reading comments, so if it’s heard often enough they might just address it, and I agree it is an amazing lens for it’s price!👍😊
I sold mine as the barrel distortion is pretty bad even with correction from software. Good if you are stuck and really need an ultra wide of a landscape.
Yeah getting this lens requires you to be very much aware of all it’s weakenesses and find ways to work around it , if not you will feel this lens may limit u if you don’t commit to it bearing all those in mind I guess
Canon DPP is the correct way to convert your Canon RAW files. DPP will give the same or better lens correction than the camera will. Canon engineers designed the system to use DPP, and, you already paid for DPP in the purchase proce of your camera, so you would be mad not to use it. I started using DPP for all my Canon lens raw file conversions 7rs ago, and haven't looked back.
Oh yeah somehow I totally overlooked that, cos my workflow with shooting weddings doesn’t really permit me to use it all the time with the thousands of pics we shoot for a typical wedding, cos I need to use my own presets too in Lightroom , but thanks for reminding me about it 😊👍
Hehe, Well I don’t know if a 1.4 16mm prime will ever come to fruition to be really honest, but if it does it most definitely wont be as light and as small as this nifty 16 that’s for sure!
Thanks for the review! As a novice, the fact that l'd have to change things post makes me nervous. Has there been an update fixing the awkward fish eye look when close up? Thinking about getting this to take photos primarily of kids. Have a baby on the way and would love something wear can be near her when taking random daily shots. Would love to hear your feedback!
Hey there thanks so much for tuning in. Personally speaking if you really are into taking portraits of your kids I would recommend another lens not this one , I think you should give the RF35 f1.8 a try, it’s got a good balance of being wide and not too distorted whem shooting up close, and it also has a slight macro capability so it’s all rounder for shooting almost anythg inclusing your close up shot of details too when you want to , do check out my review on it here m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TsGHSmsml6k.html
hi qippy! how have u been? Anyway, can i get ur honest experience while shooting wedding (still & video). How do u feel about the practicality of the lens while u shooting a fast paced wedding event either in a large group photo or decoration. Any hiccups? thanks man!
Hi there! Thanks so much for the question, to be honest I havent used it properly for any weddings yet, but from what I gathered based on my use of it so far, I would say you would need to be a little more careful while composing for larger group shots due to the distortion like with most ultrawides anyway, but other then that I would say this lens is a brilliant little lens in my opinion
I do like a good 35 too however it’s just too close to get in between the 24 and 50, would be bringing too many lenses for not a drastic amount of difference 😅
This lens looks amazing! But I was wondering: is it worth getting if you already have a good 24mm lens? Does the slightly wider angle allow for taking very different shots than you would with 24mm? Thanks for your advice!
Well for me it’s still worth getting if you know u might just be in super tight spot and so you won’t have to ever worry anymore about tht, and because it weighs next to nothing this lens can always be that insurance sort of lens 👍😆
Well the 16-35 in my opinion is a useful focal length because of that zoom, however the real setback is it’s extra weight, and because I tended to use that lens 99% of the time at 16, it worked out to be more a redundant lens because of it’s weight just for me to occasionally use it for it’s 16mm focal length
@@QippysChannel true unless you were going to get rid of the 24, the 16-35mm is kinda useless. Same on the crop I never used the 10-18mm outside of 10mm
Try to fit a CPL filter, or any filter on it, and soon you'd find a terrible vignette that is hard to get rid of without seriously cropping the image. 🤨
Good grief. Just shoot jpg and let the camera do the work or use Canon's own software to correct it. Why do so many people insist on using Lightroom? How much does that cost?
@@keithwiebe1787 well LR comes with a monthly subscription, depending on the package you choose, but it could be anywhere between $10 and above if I remember correctly but best you check prices in your region based on the package you choose 👍
@@QippysChannel I wanted it for real estate video. I like to focus at 6feet. I was hoping there was a way to click auto focus on something 6 feet away and then turn off auto focus and have it lock at this focus distance
Nice review. But I hope you don't still edit your audio like a hurried up, run on sentence. Sounded really frantic without any pausing between sentences.
Thanks for the great review! But I would think about asking your daughter if she really wants to join these videos. She seemed annoyed and it could very well be that she would prefer not be shown in the internet. You can just do autofocus tests with random people on the street or do it yourself. Just my opinion, but I wanted to share it with you.
Awesome thorough review! Great work. I have been enjoying using this lens on RP for my vlog, here is an example if anyone is interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--XfUrjuoShM.html
