i bought this lens based on this review and it is a very good match for the R50 along with the RF50. i have caught some very nice pictures with this lens of hummingbirds. Other small animals are easier since they are not as fast. The lens itself in my opinion is very quality considering it's consumer and not pro, just need to be mindfull that it's plastic. with simple care it will last a lifetime. Thank you for your detail and demeanor for teaching us much less experienced momment capturers.

Great review! I'm looking for a light weight tele to use with my R7 for travel and this range will probably fit that need. The other consideration is the 25-250 but it looks much bigger and is quite a bit more expensive. I already have the 35 and 50 primes for low light street photogray.

If you already have the 35mm and 50mm then this is a great option for travel... If you want just one lens for travel the 18-150mm geni.us/5pxFjX is really good as well for the money in my opinion...

I’m really consfused which should I use more often since I bought the Canon R50 with a twin lens kit which includes rf-s 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 and rf-s 55-210 F5-7.1? I don’t want to bring both lenses if I decide to take a walk or bring my kids to disneyland. It’ll really help if you can give your own opinion on these since I’m just a beginner as well.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann Год назад
Well the best lens option for an all in one outing in my opinion with the current lens options would be the Canon RF-S 18-150mm: geni.us/5pxFjX In your case I would prolly use the 18-45mm, because it's lighter weight and you can get some great shots of the family and stuff in a wider view which looks great at parks. If your going to the zoo area, then I would consider wearing a little fanny pack style camera bag so you can also pack your 55-210mm for that so you can get awesome zoomed in shots of the animals. The lenses are not really that heavy...
@okaro6595
@okaro6595 6 дней назад
It is all about what type of photos you take. Nobody else can tell you that. The 18-45 mm is for normal photography but the 55-210 mm is when you need to photograph something further away? Have you not used the lenses yet? If you have you should know what they produce. The 18-150 mm is nice as it covers roughly both without need for lens changes.

@okaro6595 6 дней назад
Both have points. With the 18-150 mm you can take just it and there is no need to change lenses. The 55-210 mm gives 40% more reach but then you need to carry both lenses and possibly change them constantly. I think 18-150 mm is better and then if you need more range get 100-400 mm.

Well it depends on what you want to photograph, this is a telephoto lens optimized for the crop factor cameras like your R50. Starting at 55mm might be a little limiting in some situations if you need a wider view. The RF-S 18-150mm geni.us/uP62M82 is a really good all in one lens option if you need a more versatile range as apposed to more zoom range.

Well the R10 is a more powerful camera when it comes to a few features and the 18-150mm is a really good kit lens for doing everything. The R50 kit would be lighter in weight with the 18-45mm and significantly smaller as well. This is not ideal for birds. You should get 100-400 mm or even the 600 mm or 800 mm. But you do need something shorter than for general photography. Note the SX60 HS is 1365 mm equivalent, this is 336 mm equivalent. Sure the better image quality gives more room to crop

@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 2 месяца назад
Well it depends on your needs. the 55-210mm gives you way more telephoto reach where the 18-150mm gives you wide angle as well as some good telephoto, but not as much.
@okaro6595
@okaro6595 6 дней назад
What do you have now? If you are just buying a camera get the 18-150 mm. That is a no brainer especially for a beginner. If you already have the 18-45 mm junk then it is on whether you value 40% more reach more than the convenience of not changing lenses. I still would say 18-150 mm is a better option. If you really need long telephoto then there are different lenses for that.

I would rather have the native R Mount lens myself, but if you can find the EF-S 55-250mm for a killer price and already have the R Mount adapter it's a solid option as well. The EF lenses autofocus is not as good for video though, because those lenses were made for photography which is why I would prefer the R Mount just to be clear... I would want something with more "macro" capabilities myself, but yes the 55-210mm will work... Why canon are making darker apertures to newer r-s lens back them ef I think was better 55 250mm f3.5 to f5.6 not so dark not like f7.1😅😅😅 I sure canon does not care of apsc users and they pushing users to buy full frame maybe is time switch to fujifilm their kit lens starting at f4 for 18 55mm
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 4 месяца назад
haha, Sony's kit lenses often start at f/3.5.... I believe Canon is doing this to keep the size and weight down to bare minimum. Sony does the same thing pretty much, but is many years a head with their lens line. If Canon fallows a similar path that Sony did, they will focus on full frame lenses and slowly trickle out better APS-C lenses over time. What we really need is Canon to allow Sigma, Tamron, and Viltrox to make autofocus lenses for the RF mount and that will solve the problem, but they refuse to do that still for some reason.
@maczek70pl
@maczek70pl 3 месяца назад
@@Jason_Hermann I wouldn't buy Sigma or Tamron , I have had a bad experience with both of them , while my Canon kit lens bought 15 years ago still works as new . I would rather buy old Canon lens and use them with an adapter.

@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann Год назад
There is nothing really to talk about? Some lenses have square backs and some do not. The light is getting into the sensor based on the optical design and the rectangle has no effect on this. If you were to try and use this lens in full frame mode, which the canon cameras won't let you do, this might effect vignetting a bit, but you can't do that... Is there something else you were thinking about?
@blakberi
@blakberi Год назад
@@Jason_Hermann Just what you wrote here - the EF-S lenses were not designed like this and it would have been a a good point to acknowledge - I don’t know if this was a design decision based on anti-vignetting or some other reason. It would be interesting to see how these behave on full-frame cameras and forced into a non- cropped mode if it was even possible. Alas, I have zero interest in receiving such a lens and plan to get either an R7 body or an R8 and adapt my EF and EF-S lenses as I do with the R. But thank you for the overview.
