It mostely take practice but I would suggest to start by braking and then picking up speed before your landing and then progressively brake to fly over the ground instead of doing a spiral, that way you won't go as fast for your beginnings. Although, I seriously think the most important thing would be to be very careful and to take your time because swooping can be lethal. Blue skies brother
I think when you start skydiving you are usually skinny however after many years especially if you got married and developed a belly !!! I think that affect how you control your flight and canopy. You are not the same person!!! I can see mistakes probably due to this reason.
The reason skydivers are skinny at the begining is because there's weight restrictions, once you have your licence no-body really cares, I mean the C.I. at a drop zone would if you where huge and your last jump was over 12 months ago though
