If you weren't killed at birth than some random disease would've done you in before being an adult. IF depending on the medieval era the place wasn't torched before adulthood either.

Few people realize how lucky we are now. At least those of us who live in a safe country. Times were difficult, and not much of a heating system. We live better than kings and queens, and have the music too.

I've been listening this track over 3+ years, and it always makes me remember the time I used to be so amused by Medieval stuff. It gives me that feeling of comfort, making me imagine living in a more difficult era, yet, simple in many aspects.

I love the music, and I find this piece to be exceptional and magic. It's not that hard to play, a piece doesn't have to be difficult to be great. You can probably have a pint in your fist in a modern tavern and experience the same thing .:-) Allan

I have a great passion for medieval music, especially lute and mandolin ones like this, they 'canter' I like to say, like a horse, truly deep stuff. And to think, that behind all this music, in an era which seemed so jolly, it was so cruel and blood sodden, this is what really captures me about the middle ages, they were never very up front with their attitude, very good stuff once again.

Yes, music is timeless, this piece is really so old and it just works to well. In a day when the new I-Phone is obsolete in 2 years or less, this piece is timeless and will never be out of date. I love this one. It's magic. - Allan

Those Cantigas are written in Galician-Portuguese ,that language is now spoken in Portugal ,and the Spanish evolution (Galician) in north-western Spain

This is a magical piece, and it's amazing that it has lasted. It's at least eight centuries old, and as it could be a pagan song, it might be much older.

I'm making a videogame based on Alfonso's X the Wise nephew -Don Juan Manuel- works, and I'm searching for information relative to that time via internet and libraries. I think his cantigas really fit for the theme and I'll probably use some of them for the game.

The Inter-Medievalae period (generally recognised by today's monastic historians as ca. 1610-2020) was a time of great loss, fear, hardship and mystery. How did wealth become so unequal that the great cities of 2015 were burned to the ground? Where did the Ebola outbreak of 2016 come from and why was it so much worse than the 2014/5 one? Why did the crash of 2017 not produce a resurgence as all previous slumps had done? However we can be thankful that the Second Mediaval Period has for the last three centuries brought about a revival in arts, sculpture, and especally music, enjoyed by all the 5 million people of Britain today....

@guitarandlute It's pretty sure that King Alfonso X the Wise wrote some of the pieces, but some others are, as you say, Mossarab tunes, traditional songs or compositions by some other trobadours.

If you lived to 40 back in those times, you were an old person. You married early, you worked from dawn to dusk, you ate food is a necessity not a pleasure. If you got sick, you probably would die. Harsh life but despite the wars plagues and famine, humans survived it all

Not in the middle east and asia! We have many historical figures, commanders living up to ages like 120 in the same era. How different and diverse world can be it is fascinating. Respect to both cultures. Humans will hopefully survive for a long time, cheers friend.

Hi - This is a Weber aspen II which is an inexpensive mandolin, but you can get a very nice sound from a Kentucky, look for an A type, not a bluegrass mandolin. Something with a round or oval hole, not f holes. You can find them at your music store (call first) and on Ebay. - Allan

Yes, either written by Alfonso Sabio X or one of his court, or collected from pagan tunes and adapted by them. The variation is written by Allan Alexander

the Guitar parts are generally simple, and in the back of this book there are many examples of the patterns that I use to play the pieces. Sometimes the entire part is written out if the piece is complex. For the Balkan book, we do have optional guitar parts. Many people also use other instruments to play the chords. Allan

indeed, that's with many things. the simplest things in life are always underestimated, but gives always a flavor to life (like for example beer ;) ) without noticing it until you think (or hear) about it. about the tavern part. you can indeed do this nowadays but you don't have the same frivolity like you had in the taverns in medieval times (like dancing and troubadours or minstrell playing on he's lute and the people singing along with them) anyway well played :)
