You’re doing great, looking awesome, almost to work, you got a speed bump coming up, perfect, hang a left at the McDonald’s, outstanding ! 4 ,4, 4, overcrest, hard 190... and you’re at work. Great job 😆😆😆
This navigator is totally the driver's hype man, and I'm here for that. Around 9:25 driver apologizes for a hard hit, and navigator says "felt good, I like it!"
This video is the first time I've ever really understood how important the navigator is. I honestly had no idea how many different aspects they bring to the table, but seeing it and HEARING it, is a big eye opener! These guys are 100% every bit as important as the driver! I never realized that before. I saw them more as a co-driver, maybe a backup, someone to get directions and sure they stay on the right track, maybe telling a little info about the track ahead etc. I had no idea they were that essential. It explains why these drivers can drive all out, all the time, constantly keeping the vehicle at the very top edge if it's performance capability, and still finish the race without being plastered up side of a rock somewhere, or scattered in pieces across a desert floor. These guys are the reason why these drivers can drive like they do. And I see that, it must be vitally important for the driver to be able to fully trust the navigator with their life, and vice versa. Navigators everywhere owe you folks an appreciation, because I've never seen a video that shows their importance like this.
Solo runs would double the length of time of the race, with 50-70% broke from overruning corners. It's near impossible to memorize a 400 mile race and which turn it was that had the big rock that will flip you not to be confused with the one that has a ditch on the outside to roll you over . Closest I've ever done was Sonora,ca to Mariposa,ca on highway 49 it's 60 miles in 60min hundreds of corners some of them triple switchbacks (5_6over crest ; 2_1 190°Left 1_2! 2_1 190°Right 1_2, 2_1 190°L 1_2! 2_1 190°R 1_2,2_1 190°L 1_2, 2_1 190°R 1_2 ) all with in 1mi of road 1\8mi (660'200M)as the crow flys , with 5mph apexes. Not to mention the fact that it was a moonless night about 1am and there's no guardrail between you and the 1000 foot drop or a rockwall on the other. This team should be able to run this section going in blind in 45 or less with the 905 extra hp , race tuned suspension, 4wheel traction . Add codriver and now we're looking at closer to 25-30mim. Instinct is very difficult to outskill enjoy the day.
@@daviddroescher I appreciate this feedback from an experienced person. I absolutely can believe it would take twice as long, and half still not finish, if there were no co-drivers. This is TRULY a situation where BOTH of them, are controlling that car. I see it now, the co-driver is not just a human GPS nav system, he is the brain, thats telling the drivers hands and feet what to do with the car! And I imagine... it's possibly a good thing in some ways, that it's a moonless night, because you CAN'T see how far that drop-off is, how close you are to death... I imagine that would be more nerve-racking than driving "blind" with a co-driver you trust. I'd love to learn more about that.
True, same like in rally driving, without co-pilot it does not work, it's team work. But kind of weird how he motivates and cheer up the driver, would drive me nuts
I feel incredible watching this. Terrifying but amazing. I feel like you’d need to be on something to be sharp enough with so much adrenaline pumping. I bet their exhausted when it’s over.
@@yuron8210 lmao you’re hating in the RU-vid comments section and they’re out racing in a 500$k fully built desert trophy truck and having the time of their lives, just saying. don’t pretend you aren’t jealous. Gay little kid
This was such a great video 👌 I'm about to take on my first Baja 1000 (as pretty much my first race ever) and this is super helpful to give an idea of how it actually is 🤙
This is one of the sickest onboards I've ever seen, in any motorsport. Insane truck, insane course, dialed in driver and co-pilot. Excellent footy boys keep it coming.
I love seeing this and it letting me understand that, when this navigator says "GO GO GO!" He's not just sending encouragement or hype or boosting up the driver's mood etc. He's letting the driver know "okay there's nothing to worry about ahead, you can put the hammer down!" It's obvious because he NEVER says that until the driver has cleared an obstacle, curve, jump etc and the way in front of them is clear enough to really get on it & shove that pedal through the floor. Without that "GO GO GO!" There's no way the driver can know if it's safe over that Hill or when he clears the jump, and he'd have to either eventually wreck or play it safe and back off the pedal. Well that's a navigator there's no way these guys can drive like that on races this long without totaling the vehicle before they cross the finish line. This video is giving me a whole new respect for and Outlook of the navigator.
Hands down the absolute best trophy truck video on RU-vid. Who needs hype Music when you have this guy in your ear. Both of them blow my mind how they're on the same level.
Watched the whole video and the end was? Tap the starter with a hammer? I usually just threw the hammer at the stater. 72 and you learn something new everyday!
It was awesome, amazing ride! Best ever first row footage video! I can't imagine what pilot driver see and feel with all that adrenaline. It should be an attraction in Disney; Ride with Chris and Johnny in Baja.
That Co driver is the shit. Dude you could navigate Stevie wonder thru 500 miles. You stayed positive, always making the driver feel good about the next corner ahead. Thank you for sharing. I have been to many races years ago with a friend Stuart Chase and his son Eric, I know how much goes into this, and I have never seen a cop driver that good.
Love it! Too funny to see tapping the starter to get it going works on even a $700k+ trophy 🤣 rock on guys, gotta get her thru the miles by any means necessary!
Never shut off engine in the middle of race unless it is absolutely necessary....The LS engine's starter motor is so close to exhaust manifold and it often got over heat during the race....once engine is off, you will have to wait a long time to cool it down before able to restart again.
I need a co-pilot like that in my life! "Ok, keep your mouth shut on 3,2,1... go, go, go. On the left, don't get caught looking at her boobs, now glance, look away, look away!"
I would like to know what coffee brand the co driver is drinking! Go go go! Love it.😆 Great video guys. Brings be back to my co driving days. Miss that. A lot.
This is very good. Pure technical and educative. Kudos to the drivers and Big ups to the Nav guy. At the beginning the driver asked if the AUTOPILOT is on. I want to know what the Autopilot does in this vehicle? Loving this vid. I hope to oneday drive in Baja 1000. Greetings from Ghana.
From what I saw here, what differentiate Baja and Dakar (or Raid Rally in general) are the race length and the navigation system. These guys use GPS compared to Raid Rally that only uses roadbook. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I still have no clue what make it more different from the vehicle spec.
It sounds like the copilot is well aware of the expense this whole thing costs but also well aware they are there to have fun and drive fast. Copilot did a great job and l couldnt see any mistakes on his part. Id say the copilot was also a paid professional and the driver was someone with alot of money and an awesome hobby
I was given only 6 months to live this video I watch everynite helps me to rave on and fight cancer . Thankyou so much for such an inspiration in my life I wish I could have an autograph picture picture. If so I'm at 6269 east Rosewood. Tucson Arizona Tim Lafferty. Thankyou
Man driver sucks hes so fkn timid...you can hear the co screaming 4-5 and 2-3 and hes never there and then the engine off throttle especially in corners what the heck...they need to switch places already...
I would love that to be my job even co-driver being driver a lot of responsibility a lot of money under your belt if you destroy the truck I watched this video driving through Ortega highway on the way home trying to take the corners at left too and left 3 and right four right one b**** right too!
Legend has it that the copilot is still saying GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO
I learned how to control a trajectory through the air and do Scandinavian flicks in a Subaru back in high school. I wish I had the chance to drive a truck like that. Sorry but I would have smoked this driver. No brag.
This driver actually kinda sucks. Ig safety is priority if you're not going for a record run. It's a shame you have to be a millionaire to get into this level.
Could you dream of a better navigator than this guy? He could make the crappiest driver on earth win races just by making them believe in themselves so completely.
Is that mechanical whine at the beginning all the 4x4(4x2?) parts screaming because they are moving at such high speed? Or just the mechanical parts in general
