What a great rendition of Tenholt's masterpiece. For me this Music represents the flow of life as we experience it.

I know this composition very well and when performed well it always delights me. However, I didn't think that this delight could apply to a piano solo performance!? I work as a piano tuner. In piano playing, I admire the potential of touch and contact with the keyboard. Here the piano purrs at times like a hypnotized great wild cat. Wonderful! My great appreciation and congratulations!

Dag Wim. Ik weet niet hoe vaak ik deze video nu al bekeken heb (of geluisterd). Elke keer ontroert het me weer. Wat speel je prachtig! En wat een mooie video ook qua opzet en belichting! De Canto heb ik pas ontdekt aan het begin van dit jaar, toen er veel over te doen was in de media. En eerlijk gezegd vond ik er de eerste keer (uitvoering van het bekende echtpaar) niet zoveel aan. Toen heb ik de vierhandige versie nog een paar keer in etappes geluisterd en langzaam begon de fascinatie te groeien. Maar ja, een stuk gaat voor mij pas echt leven als ik het zelf een beetje kan naspelen op mijn eigen piano. Maar hoe doe je dat dan in je eentje? En toen vond ik jouw versie. Zoooo mooi! En heerlijk dat je de melodie aan het eind lekker vaak laat terugkomen. Dat is het mooie als je je eigen interpretatie maakt. Dus met jouw video erbij lukt het me inmiddels om me geweldig te vermaken met dit stuk. En het wordt elke keer fijner om naar jouw versie te luisteren en om het zelf te spelen. In het begin dacht ik nog: wat sneu als je dit moet spelen als pianist. Daar word je toch helemaal gek van. Maar nu weet ik hoe heerlijk het is, die herhaling en eigen invulling. Heel veel dank dus aan jou voor deze video en voor al het plezier dat je anderen daarmee geeft. Heel hartelijke groeten van Nicoline 🌺

Bijzondere interpretatie van de Canto Ostinato, verademend om het stuk met zo'n behouden intensiteit, en zo'n intiem, langzamer-dan-gebruikelijk tempo te horen. Erg onder de indruk!

Jeroen van Veen's many -- this should just be an understatement at this point -- interpretations often give the piece a kind of epicness, like a long journey, while yours present a more intimate and introspective side of the piece with a slowed tempo and more delicate articulations. The section change in 9:38 really exemplifies this. Although it is incomplete -- Section 88 onwards were omitted -- this is definitely a version I will keep coming back to. Very nice 😌

Prachtig stuk! Over de jaren heb ik hier al heel vaak naar kunnen luisteren, dank daarvoor! Ik speel ondertussen zelf ook een beetje piano en zou (een deel van) dit nummer graag oppakken als project. Gezien het nummer uit meerdere partijen bestaat vind ik het nog best pittig om de essentie op 1 piano te spelen. Kun je delen hoe jij dat destijds hebt aangepakt bij het opzetten van deze interpretatie?

Magically mesmerizing. Indeed, Jeroen can play the piano, there’s no denying that, but you definitely have more delicate articulations! Please clone yourself so the two of you can do a quatre mains version. I’ll be eagerly anticipating the video, let me know if you need help with the crowdfunding. In all seriousness: I’ve listened to every version I can find and this is no doubt one of my favourites. With just one guy and no sheet music, how??? And as you must be aware there are quite a lot of them out there.

Playing the patterns of Canto Ostinato on a single piano is no small task, and the pianist have been able to make the inner voices very clear. However, I disagree with the decision of not keeping a steady tempo throughout all the piece. The steady pulse of the 5 + 5 16th notes is very important to the overall form. This is not romantic music and ritardandi to commence new sections are not needed. That said, I'll rush to buy a ticket if I had the opportunity to be in the right city at the right moment.
