They say third time is the charm, and one lucky fan made it count on his third shot during the Toyota Shoot-to-Win intermission contest at Rogers Arena on December 13th.

Actually they do! Fun thing about this is that there's giveaway insurance for this exact sort of thing, referred to "Hole in One Insurance" by many of the groups. The teams incur little risk with the insurance, as they pay for the policy each time they run the promotion regardless. The insurance company banks on this fact to make the money, and in so make more than the cost of the vehicle over time.

@@danmcgoogleaccount6954 It's not Toyota or the vehicle manufacturer that takes out the insurance, but the local sponsor itself. In this case, it would be the local franchise location. Since all dealerships are not corporate owned, but rather franchise owned, they incur the burden for the giveaway. They set up the hole-in-one insurance, get the advertising time during intermission/halftime/whichever, and should someone succeed, cash out the policy they've purchased via the insurance company.

One of the very best moments this year, if not ever - LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT HOLE! I'm shocked a puck could even fit in there! AMAZING! What was a disappointment for fans tonight, this made it worthwhile! WAY TO GO! UNBELIEVABLE, AARON! WOW! Best part? The Ohlund jersey!

me and a few of my teammates used to practice that shot at the end of practice all the time with the board we had like that. we got pretty good at it lol every time I'm at a game that has a contest like this I enter but I've never gotten the chance to shoot yet.

At this distance and size of hole, there is a point at which skill can only help you so much. So yeah, an NHL player would have a much better chance than a regular guy, but at the end of the day they still need to get lucky.

That's insane! Realizing that the hole is exactly as big the puck and furthermore the ice after a period was destroyed so the puck started jumping like crazy in the crease, but still it was in :)

Not only that, but look at how the puck was bouncing around beforehand. Then it gets to the net and is flat on the ice the instant it goes in. Amazing.

All you people bad mouthing this guy are just a bunch of haters. He handled it perfectly, admitted he was nervous and didn't act all insecure and macho.
