Watching those '80s goalies never gets old. Small guys in small pads standing all hunched over against Gretzky and Mario, flopping around like fish out of water. Hilarious!
No sport has changed as much as hockey has in the last 30-40 years. It's just absurd how bad goalies were back then. The absolute best goalie in the NHL in 1980 would let in 50 goals a game in 2021. Not even joking. 50.
That Jonathan Quick sequence against Pittsburgh was literal pandemonium. The amount of times he bailed that team out was crazy. I miss the 2011-2015 Kings and Quick
if his positioning and recovery were better, he wouldn't have had to make those saves look so hard lol Carey Price is a good comparison. his positioning was so good he rarely had to flop around like that. too bad the team in front of him was never that great.
@@MrSamsam911 yeah no joke lol. i watch old highlights and i can't help but think how a modern goalie would have a .950% or how like a modern 2nd line center would win 5 MVPs against these pylons lmao
@@baragon4N20 i sort of agree with you but keep in mind the stick and skate technology now is way better than it was back then. although our players and goalies may be better, we have more advantages. we learned more, our goalies’ pads are bigger, we have became more advanced.. our sticks are lighter and we don’t use wood.. the list goes on
I remember seeing Tanner Glass do the same thing when he was on the Rangers, but I can't remember who the shooter was. I just remember that after the second shot,he went to block the lane again, and the shooter seemed to say "are you serious? you know that I'm still gonna do it again" and he did. I was impressed.
@@AC-gw4qu Have you ever blocked a shot, especially if it hits you on your skates or laces. Even from a weak shot the sting u feel, let alone three perfectly teed up one time clappers from shea Webber lol
What are u talking about? Then how come its just them that scored a lot, shouldn't everyone be scoring a lot too? The goaliesmight not have good equipments, but remember, Gretzky and Lemieux had the same quality equipments too
You've got to realize that no everyone one scored so much. No one came close to matching Gretzky's scoring. There were years that he could've won the scoring race without counting any of his goals scored.
mad respect to erickson ek. putting your body on the line three times in one shift, down 3-0 in the game, and the shots came from weber. guy's out of his mind
7:35 You could have a whole video based on that game... Miracle On Manchester is so underrated Just the whole scenario. Not just being down 5-0. Not just the fact that they were 24-41-15 facing off against Gretzky’s 48-17-15 Oilers. But the fact that you put all that together and they won the series? That’s insane. You never see those comebacks in the playoffs and considering the circumstances it’s crazy. Such a great hockey story.
I am a Gretzky fan, but sometimes when I watch him score , does it seem like the defence are watching him and sort of letting him skate around and score? Why don't they knock him off his skates?
That's how it used to be back in the days. Same with the goalies, they were horrible. Not saying Gretzky wasnt amazing but thats the reason i never compare older players with the modern ones.
@@TIBS_x He's definitely in his prime now. Look at the age Gretzky, Ovi, Crosby etc were when they had their best season (at least offensively). These elite players don't need much time to learn the NHL game so they peak at around 22 when they are still at their fastest. Having said that I imagine McDavid will round out his game as he ages similar to what Crosby did
There are some amazing plays in here but McDavid's goal at 5:47 is far and away the most impressive. The sudden acceleration and the way he makes everyone else look like they aren't moving is amazing. Hamonic is a decent skater and McDavid just blew by him, it's unreal.
@@DustinGoatPoirier I think it takes more talent to go coast to coast, snake through the entire sabres team, and then raise a one handed backhander that high to beat the goalie. Crosby absolutely flew past the defense
There's 2 Sedin plays I think you should've added. One is quite unknown but it may be one of if not the greatest goal in NHL history imo. Great video non the less
8:00 Oh God... I remembered that I score with that exact same move at school when I was like 13-14... Twice! Wow... That's why Ovechkin is one of my favs players...
Just watching that Gretzky goal is all the proof you should need that anyone in their 80's could score 50 goals in that era. Not even a goaltender in the net.
Lol. The rest of the league was 100 pts behind Gretzky. No one else has scored 200pts in a season. He averaged over 200pts a season for six straight seasons. No one else scored over 90 goals in a season, and no one's come close to scoring 50 in 39 games or getting a point if over 50 games straight. Gretz makes it look easy.
That Lemieux 5-way goals will never ever happen again in a million years. Impossible odds. 5 goals its already hard, but to make it 5 different ways, never going to happen!!
Watching the Lemieux and Gretzky score those goals... good god, those goalies couldn't stop a beachball. Paul Bissonnette could be a 30 goal scorer back in those days.
Watching most of these, the realist in me understands I could never even come close to achieving these plays. But then I look at the classic games with stand up goalies and my brain is like, we could have stopped that, no problem.
There are so many players in this video where you could take virtually any game they've played in and find a superhuman, highlight reel kind of play - especially guys like Gretzky, Datsyuk, Ovechkin, Crosby, McDavid, Lemieux, and so on.
You mind as well dedicate half of these to Connor McDavid. Ovechkin is my favorite player of all time, but McDavid is also a freak of nature who doesn't skate on the ice, he flies on the ice.
@@thatoneguy9666 They dont get so much money for youtube, this is very small channel for sustaining yourself with youtube ads and view money, we're talking about 20-50k views total in 6 months so. Why not make full content of the whole video instead half of it begging to subscribe you? Who the fuck makes a channel for highlights and put 2 minutes straight begging on every video, its just disgunsting and makes me more not subscribe the channel. And its also funny that most of these clips are already made, its kinda just same video than others with different topic on it. Delta Highlights is far, far away from Jens95, that guy really knows, how to make videos. Dont get me wrong, im not saying this channels owner is doing something wrong, its just more about the money than interest of what he is doing.
