I was very tempted at one point to use my touring bike for the 600km. My sit bones are like steel but my arms not so much which is why for really long distance or touring I prefer the more upright position. Once I get my fitting checkup to make sure I'm aligned well with the new stem I think I'll be good to go for a while, no 400/600km rides planned this year :)

Hi. Thank you for all your videos. They’ve been super helpful. I’ve been deciding between this, the Giant Defy and the Specialized Roubiax. They all have their pros and cons. But, it sounds like comfort mainly comes from the geometry of the bike, the right set of wheels and a proper fitting. Sounds easy enough. I have to say, though... the more expensive brands really do a great job convincing us that we need all their extra fancy tech so that we’ll spend the $$. But, (from what I hear) Canyon has a great customer service dept. So, I suppose it won’t hurt to at least order one and try it out! Any regrets going with Canyon? Any possible upgrades planned for comfort or performance?
@OneLessCar
@OneLessCar 3 года назад
I have no regrets with my Canyon, it's been over 2 years now and looking forward to many more miles on it. If I was to upgrade something I would likely look at wheels as they would make the most noticeable difference. The 105 is a great groupset so other than getting Di2 I can't see changing that. You are right about the PR in cycling... I try to keep what I love about cycling in the forefront of my mind when deciding what to spend my money on :) Good luck with your decision!

Thank you for the thorough review! I have a question for you about the size. You were given the recommendation to purchase the XS (I've been given that recommendation as well), but you got the S... and you're happy with the S. My question is: IF you had gotten the XS, do you think you would've needed to add spacers to raise the handlebar height and shorten the stem?
@OneLessCar
@OneLessCar 3 года назад
I would have had to add spacers. I have long legs and a smaller frame would have put my saddle higher which would have put me in a more aggressive position with my saddle higher than my handlebars than I currently have. I prefer an upright position ( even more so when on rides over 200km or multli day rides) so to get that I'd have needed more spacers than I had previous to shortening the stem. My first road bike was the same size as my S canyon and when I had it fitted I was told it was the right size. When I had the Canyon fitted I was told the same (even with the longer stem). Hope that wasn't too confusing! 😀 If you need more clarity let me know.

@@OneLessCar Yeah, I can see what you're saying. I sure wish I could talk to you--- I REALLY don't want to make a mistake with the size when order, even tho' the rep has told me twice that if it's not the right size, I can send it back and they would pay the shipping. Well, that's nice of them, HOWEVER, I don't want to have to do that-- I want to get it right the first time!!! And with the shortage of bikes over here, who knows how long it would take to get the replacement? You and I have almost EXACTLY the same measurements of height (168 cm) and inseam-- mine is just 5 mm longer than yours... 82.5! But the rep keeps saying that I should trust the calculator on their website, which says XS. An XS may be perfect for my reach, but on an XS, I'm afraid my knees will hit me in the chin when I pedal! You can only raise the saddle so much to make the bike fit your leg length! If all that isn't confusing enough, this Endurace CF SL Disc 7 is also available with a WOMEN'S specific geometry! I just WISH I could try out the bike like you were able to!!!! Unfortunately, Canyon Bikes are located over 1000 miles away. May I ask you-- how much stand-over clearance do you have over your S? Also, do you recall how much you have the seat raised? I think I'm very fortunate to have run across your video-- what are the chances of finding someone the same size as I am riding the exact bike I'm looking to buy?????
@OneLessCar
@OneLessCar 3 года назад
@@SisterBaby My saddle is 72cm from the middle of the bottom bracket. I have plenty of clearance (and I have a bike with very little and this isn't the case with the canyon). The thing I found strange with their online measuring tool (when I ordered my bike) was I could change EVERY other measurment and nothing would happen (except the occasional warning of that doesn't seem right). The only measurement that made any change in recommondations was the leg length. So with that, with the fact that I'd had a bike previously the same size as the S and the fact that I'd had that bike fitted were all confirmation, the S was the one for me. All the test ride did was confirm how small the XS was. The top tube was so low when I stood next to it It was like it was a kids bike. I'd say if you want an aggressive position go for the xs, if you want a more upright one go for the S and adust the stem for the reach.
@alexkingston
@alexkingston 2 года назад
@@OneLessCar hiya may I know how far in height and inseam you were from that of the actual measurements Canyon recommends for an S? I've ordered an Endurace CF SL 7 too but in 2XS as recommended by Canyon but when I tried my friend's unisex Ultimate in 2XS, the bike feels tiny to me. Granted it's not the same bike but I compared measurements between the Endurace and the Ultimate in 2XS and the Endurace is even smaller. So, now I'm wondering if I should get it in an XS instead. I'm 164cm with an inseam of around 75cm but the recommended measurements for an XS is minimally 166cm. When I increased my height and kept my inseam the same, they then recommended me an XS. So, it seems their measurement system is purely based on height. Shrugs.. really confused.

@ravigunslinger
@ravigunslinger 4 года назад
i'm 1000k into my canyon endurace (CF SL 7.0). Interesting that you sized up. Im 172.6 cm, inseam 80 (ish) cm. it came with an 80cm stem. I'm right on the upper limit of the canyon sizing. I went with XS as per canyon's suggestion. and it feels comfortable for me.... though, I have no other road bikes to compare to (as this is my first foray into road bikes). Strictly speaking i think i should be an S - I've always known my height to be 172cm and entered this into the sizing calculator. A month after buying the bike I decided to actually measure my height - turns out I'm slightly taller! I guess, the fact that you being 168cm (and comfortable on an S) and me being 172cm (and being comfortable on an XS) implies that there's a fair degree of tolerance and adjustability within the sizing guide. Do you have much toe overlap?

@pelisinho
@pelisinho 3 года назад
this might be late but I think the difference is that you have smaller inseam than Michelle, I also have long legs compared to the rest of the body and that makes it so that I need a really high saddle height which, if you have a smaller frame with lower stack, puts you in a more agressive position. I think Canyon sizing works for people with more normal sized legs lol but for us with longer legs getting a bike is a little more difficult, we kinda have to compromise somewhere. In the end it is easier to adjust the reach, by getting a smaller stem, than adjusting the stack of the bike. I'm 1.61m and have 79cm inseam eheh compare that to your measures and you can see how much longer my legs are compared to my body size, Canyon recomends 2XS for me but I'll probably get the XS :)

My girlfriend rides a medium unisex Giant Fathom , so I'm inclined to take your advice and ordering a size up. She is 170cm has a 79cm inseam, so kind of similar. and looks a similar shape / build to you. Do you mind elaborating on the differences you found? Or kindly measure your arms so I can compare reach!? 🤗🤗🤗
@OneLessCar
@OneLessCar 3 года назад
If she is happy with the size of the Giant I would check the geometry chart of the Canyon and compare them to get an idea of how it might compare to what she's used to. That's where I first noticed something seemed off, the bike I currently had, which I'd had fitted was the same as the size S not XS. My fitter had said I had the right size bike. Going to test ride the bike confirmed to me that the xs was very small. I don't like an aggressive riding position and I felt that the xs would mean I'd have to pull the saddle to the max height putting it too high in comparison to the handlebars due to my long legs. With the size S I ordered I switched to an 80mm stem to make up for my short reach. I have normal to longish arms but a short torso so I have a short reach. It's for this reason that one day I look forward to getting a bike custom built for me :)
@HowayTheMags
@HowayTheMags 3 года назад
@@OneLessCar thanks very much for your reply. I sent the MTB size chart to Canyon and they said it varied too much and the angulations were too different for a decent comparison. I bought her a shorter stem on the Fathom as well so that's interesting to know that you switched it. I have sent Canyon some side-on mages of her sat on my turbo whilst upright and reaching forward. Which is a 60.5 top tube (XL) Giant TCR with a 120mm stem LOL. But just to show them that she might need a longer position. I will let you know what they say :)
@OneLessCar
@OneLessCar 3 года назад
@@HowayTheMags I'd guess they will just go by their size chart which is online. Those changes were to achieve a more upright position, which I prefer for endurance riding. Had I got the smaller size my saddle in relationships to my handlebars would have had me in an even more aggressive position as it would have been raised higher out of the seat tube to accommodate my 32" inseam. I've also had multiple bike fits and the one I had on my first road bike the fitter advised I could have gone up a size, another factor in my choice.
