Thanks for watching! and thanks for the comment its much appreciated. Yeah I can only really say good things about the Canyon. The only negative which I did not mention is the waiting time to get one... I waited months and that was before the Pandemic. But it was worth the wait 😀

John on a Bike I’ve still got the same saddle it came with 2yrs ago but am beginning to feel it after longer rides. So was going to look for another as it happens. V interesting your saddle, may well try that, it’d be daft not to at that price. Cheers 👍

Thank you very much. Yeah with the pandemic bikes have become hot property and hard to get a hold of a some models. We had the same problem at the beginning of last year when we tried to buy our folding bikes... took a LONG time to get them. Be patient you will get one eventually and you wont be disappointed they are excellent bikes

Thanks 🙏🏾 for making the video John! You’ve got a lovely bike and love the red! I’m planning on getting one soon. Unfortunately the 2020 AL7.0 disc ( which is the version I’m after) only comes in blue or black. I might wait and see if they release a red in 2021.

It looks like you might have installed the stem to give you maximum rise, upside down? I like my bars to be somewhat level with the saddle too, so would probably do the same thing -- was that a conscious decision? I ride steel frames almost entirely. How comfortable is this bike? It seems like a good deal given Canyon's higher end CF offerings, but, the last aluminum bike I rode (a late 80s Cannondale ST-???) seemed quite harsh. I could feel it in my bones after a 20 mile ride. I know tires/wheels, geometry, tube design, etc. are a factor, but have you ridden steel? If so, can you tell a difference (is steel noticeably more comfortable)? If no, how does it compare comfort-wise to your previous aluminum bike?
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 4 года назад
Hello and thanks for the comment. Yes I did turn the bars upside down and well spotted. I actually forgot I had done that or I would have mentioned it in the video I did that as I prefer a less aggressive angle as I am not racing so prefer my comfort. They were not to bad to start with but upside down they are perfect for me. The bike is comfortable and I don't find it jarring plus you could put wider tyres on for even more comfort plus it has carbon seat post and forks so that will help but I cannot compare to steel. I have ridden steel years back when I was about 19 but I cannot recall the difference apart from those bikes being VERY heavy and still having the gear shifters on the down tube and no indexing.... those were the days 😀 - as for my previous aluminium bike I would say its more comfortable but that could also be down to the less weight so more nimble. One thing I did notice on this compared to my last bike (which has steel forks) was how light and sometimes twitchy the front felt fast downhill in a strong wind

John on a Bike I see you turned the stem up to.I would prob do that to . Do you know can you also put spacers below stem to to raise it up if needed?I think I heard this is hard to do on canyon bikes, this info may be incorrect Thoe.
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 3 года назад
So sorry I missed this reply - Yeah I am no fan of the hunched right over seating position and I am not going to be doing time trials any time soon. Comfort is way more important to me. I have not tried to put spacers on the Canyon so I cannot unfortunately comment on how hard to easy it is

I've had the same issue with an FSA BB, went after 1500 miles. Seems like a common issue with new ones. I've put mega miles on my square taper BB over the years in all weathers never had an issue.
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 4 года назад
Yeah that is true. I have an old mountain bike with a square taper BB and I am just about to replace it. Its not actually making any noise I am only replacing as a precaution as I am replacing crank, chain and freewheel (cassette) and I have to remove stuck crank with hammer and chisel so I am worried I damaged bottom bracket. I hope to video putting it back together 👍

@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 4 года назад
@@OnThePathToStrength That is sad to hear... nothing worse when things start going wrong. Yeah as I said in the video I know disk brakes would be better in the wet but my Canyon is only used in the dry... obviously I can get caught out which I have done and the RIM brakes still work OK. I suppose I am a little old school and if things work why change them.. stuck in my ways eh 😄 - My BB has just arrived so heading out to garden to put it hopefully all back together (fingers firmly crossed) I have no problems....

Hi John thinking of getting a Canyon, nice video you have done can you do some more love bike videos. Anyway what height are you and did you go with canyons size suggestion. Is your stem turned up in that video thanks.
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 3 года назад
Hello Damien - thank you for your kind comments and yes I will be making more for sure 😃 I am 5'10 and yes I went with the size Canyon suggested for me (Medium) which fits me great. I think since I bought mine they ask for different measurements now. I had to put in torso length and shoulder with etc. Yes I flipped my stem so it was a little higher. I don't like being bent to far forward on my bikes
@William24009
@William24009 2 года назад
@@JohnonaBike Thanks for the videos. I'm 5'10.5 and purchased the Medium Endurance AL7 Disc Shimano 105 this year. For my comfort I changed my stem to a 40mm length, the stock stem was just too far away for me. I think I could have gone with the Small size. I watched your bottom bracket replacement video. I have just over 800 miles on my bike and I think my BB is clicking/creaking, started about 200 miles ago. I'm going to have a shop look into. Thanks again.🙂

Hey John, whats the widest tyre width that you reckon would fit on the AL 7? Would it be able to fit a 30 on that frame?
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 3 года назад

@jonweeee

@@JohnonaBike thanks John. Have you tried to fit 30s on them? I'm about to receive my AL 7s in a couple of months time. I ordered the rim brake versions as well.
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 3 года назад
I haven't sorry my bike still has the stock wheels and tyres on but I am not sure I would try 30 maybe 28 but you might be pushing your luck with 30. I have long said that I think disk brakes are a bit of a fad on bikes especially road bikes. They are heavier, more to maintain, can catch and rub and more expensive to buy and I said all this long before Chris Froome did 😄. I have always had RIM brakes on bikes (apart from fury but I had no choice it was just that one bike I could buy) and never had a problem with not stopping. Yeah it might take a little longer in the wet but they just work as they have done for decades

@SLCreations21 2 года назад
to fix the squeaky bottle cages, clean the bolts and put some loctite on them. how do you find the comfort of the AL frame with 25mm? is it harsh/bone jarring? wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to the Carbon frame for more comfort
@asianskywalker
@asianskywalker 4 года назад
The problem is not the bottom bracket. The problem is the poorly made frame like many other high end brands. Fast BB wear is due to poorly manufactured bottom bracket holes. A tiny misalignment will cause one side of the BB to wear unevenly or cause creaking. Check out Hambini on youtube who is an expert in this field. Canyon frames are the same quality as those of cheap bikes.
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 4 года назад
You might be right who knows and I have seen some of Hambini stuff and it seems 99% of bike frames are junk according to him. He might be right I am not qualified to say but apart from the bottom bracket going sooner than I hoped its been a brilliant bike with no other noises plus to be honest it was very easy to replace. So I reckon time will tell how long this new BB lasts

For a perfect bike frame size fit, do your feet need to be able to touch the ground?
@JohnonaBike
@JohnonaBike 4 года назад
Hello - No when sitting on the bike with the front part of your foot (ball of foot) on the pedal your leg should be just slightly bent. Or another way is if you put your heel on your pedal then your leg should be straight
