Cao Mao was so smart he reminded Shi Bao of Cao Cao, who he probably hadn't even met.

Interesting to think about that Cao Mao was seen as a potential great king whose life was taken because of Sima Zhao's Greed and vanity.

I can be mistaken,but the first thing that i thought about the way the Sima clan's supporters described and characterized Cao Mao's possible capabilities reminded me of a citation said in The Art of War:"The capable commander is the one that is feared but also loved by his subordinates",and considering that Cao Cao was feared and reveared as one of the most extraordinary rulers of his time by his military cunning and Cao Zhi was loved and admired by his literature proficiency turned him on the most famous poets of his generation,so saying Cao Mao's potencial,and thus,his possible danger is comparable to his to figures turns Sima Zhao's main strategy of destroying the last hope of the Cao clan in two contigencies:diminish Cao Mao's chances of gaining long terms power in absolute zero during his process of usurpation or the as the last extreme measure kill definitely Cao Mao and after that chose and sacrifice scapegoats of his choice while assuming all total control over the chaotic and shocked imperial court.

I can imagine Sima Yi dabbing on the short lives of Cao Pi line

Just imagine what could've been if Cao Mao succeeded in taking back power and uniting China under Wei. I wouldn't be surprised if he were remembered as one of the great emperors of china. Also makes me wonder how Wei would've dealt with the five barbarians.

It is rather sad (if unsurprising) to hear about these officials who, despite seeing potential in Cao Mao, chose personal ambition and sided with the Sima clan over loyalty to Wei. Then again the Sima clan united to the country.

this reminds me. assumingly in total war. if you make Sima Yi as your leader before reaching the rank duke. it changes the faction name to Jin. figured that out since if you grant sima yi independence as administrator. his faction becomes Jin. you should do a Jin playthrough on total war sometimes with that method starting as cao cao

If only Cao Mao had waited a few more years RIP

so did Wang Ji ever find out that Sima Zhao hid his mothers passing? and wow Sima Shi was gonna choose an older emperor? Cao Mao was as every era has, a hero to be snuffed out before the might of villains, but as a line from a usurper in my opinion was destined to be usurped regardless, even though as an individual I like him, lived to 20 and no gigantically bad things under his belt, other then his brutal murder, died a man more then others would had then be kicked off the throne like his unfortunate successor

So sad the cao clan lost enything the only way the had to totally reverse the sima doom tide and be the authority in the kingdom is to be unorthodox and do enything to wipe the sima clan and i mean enything but the cao clan didnt thought to do it to save them selves

Are there any situations like this which reversed? Like one family has complete power over military and imperial family meanwhile all in the grasp of the said family without any real power Similar case I think of is Yuan family of Wei who also met same fate as their Han predecessor
