Sima zhao: EXTERMINATE THE WANG CLAN FOR DISLOYALTY Executioner: WHICH ONE?! THERE'S LIKE 10 WANG CLAN IN THIS DAMN KINGDOM

Imagine being Cheng Ji's clan member. Someone you're related to ends a coup by killing the emperor, and the person on who's behalf he killed emperor ends up killing you and your whole family for political convenience. It's absurd in the harshest way.

yeah, i've always hated this 3rd decree thing. I understand the pragmatic need to kill one's family to avoid the clichè revenge from a son/father/brother and to deter future "betrayals" as like "not only will you die but your loving wife and sons too". But hunting down cousins? Who fkn cares about what their cousin are about?

If you watched the 8 princes series, the main villain is empress Jia Nanfeng, the daughter of Jia Chong. She became empress beacuse Jia Chong wanted to avoid being sent to the frontiers, because Sima Yan couldn't say NO to his wife and beacuse Jia Nanfeng's sister was to young and short to fit in the wedding dress. What an irony. It's kinda weird that the whole "betray the world" theme is attributed to Cao Cao. - Yuan Shao betrayed Han Fu. - Gongsun Zan betrayed Liu Yu. - Yuan Shu and Lu Bu betrayed everyone they could. - Liu Bei betrayed Liu Zhang. - Sun Quan betrayed Guan Yu. - Sima Yi betrayed Cao Shuang and Wang Ling. Most, if not all, of Cao Cao's betrayals and purges from ROTK are either not historical or they were the matter of self-perservation.

Mister Trivia, your last episode was great, I have never wanted so much for a historical character to gain the ability to fight like dynasty warriors as I did with Cao Mao. The detail that Che Ji was his bodyguard makes the betrayal even worse, Jaime Lannister is a saint next to him.

Man the levels of shenanigans present in this episode are appalling. Cheng Ji hot what he deserved but he did point out that he was more or less used as a scapegoat. Still the fact the Empress Dowager went along with the lie about what happened to Cao Mao is just pitiful.

I truly believe, or at least want to believe, that Sima Fu's loyalty was sincere.

A pityful and undeserving end to emperor Cao Mao. He was betrayed and slain by his own bodyguard and his body unceremoniously dropped on the streets. Despite his merits and qualities as a person, do you think that he could have been dethroned without all this drama? I mean when Sima Zhao learned that he was moving against him could he possibly stop him somehow and dethrone him without the need to kill him? Or was his death a necessity? I also hate that 3clans execution decree. It shows how Sima Zhao used people for murder and then betrayed them and sentenced them to death. Their dynasty, the Sima Dynasty (Jin) was a failure. Nothing good came of all this bloodshed and later the northern barbarians invaded China and massacred so many people and enslaved the Chinese...

We can possibily say that the process of Sima Zhao's after Cao Mao's tragic sudden death to save his own reputation can be defined as a series of justifications: First: find and judge culprits that will be viewed as Scapegoats and executed as villains to the state by the hand of Sima Clan's power using the legitimacy of the Wei Dynasty as a law shield. Second:dimish throught distorced and absurd lies Cao Mao's reputation not as ruler,scholar and a warrior that fighted for his power that has been showed to the entire figures that served or controlled Wei,so the only manner to change the impact of Cao Mao's death will be changing his interpretation to the kingdom in a private:a infilial piety son to the empress something that can be easily viewed as a true even if it is a lie. Thirth:giving the necessary respect to maintain the prestigious reputation of the court of Wei throught Cao Mao's dead face he was given a burial adequated for the Kingdom's perspective but not in conjuction with Cao Mao's wishes,then showing that the power of even the death of a ruler is decided by Sima Zhao's and his clan. Fourth:picking a Emperor in lineage that will hierarchically superior to Cao Mao and the samel level of Cao Rui limiting the Empress Dowager power as symbolic mother as the emperor is in the same position throught his blood as member of the Cao Clan that any Cao Rui's direct relative would have but still ensuring that given Cao Huan's young age he will be still limited by her in some way and remebering that Sima Yan as the Sima Zhao's heir will be the one to usurp his authority in name giving the message that Sima Zhao at least in his lifespan will not be the ruler of his own dynasty saving his personal reputation.

I've been going through a lot of your lore videos as of late. They are wonderful, thank you for making them! One question i have is that on wikipedia (referencing the book of jin i believe) says that Sima Zhao made Cao Mao offer him the promotions for himself to turn down. So i'm curious if it's Cao Mao "sussing out" Sima Zhao or Sima Zhao's play in order to look more faithful in the public eye. Apparently Cao Pi made the emperor offer abdication three times before he accepted it, so i wonder how many times it took for Sima Zhao to finally accept his own offer, if it was indeed him. I also heard that the surname of Sima is unpopular these days because of the Sima clan, do you know how true that is?

1. Cao Mao offered the Duke title at least 11 times to Sima Zhao if you go by the Book of Jin on three different occasions. I personally think it’s over exaggerated as book of Jin does it a lot. Not all of them were forced as I mentioned before that giving Sima Zhao the Duke title has benefits for Cao Mao as well. It is largely just a symbolic gesture. It does not add any more power to Sima Zhao and while it does give Sima Zhao a turn it down humble play, doing it this many times is just too much. 2. Double character surnames in general have been declining over time with many opting to change it to a single character version. The Sima clan from the Jin Dynasty does not really have much to do with this trend.

Hi man , i was watching some of your series , but there is a term i couldnt understand , what household means , For example you mentioned that cao cao increased cao zhi households to 10000
@SeriousTrivia

10,000 household of tax income as in 10,000 families worth of tax payment was given to him annually as part of his title stipend. Nobility titles were basically a monetary reward from the Emperor along with a little prestige.
