A side note; Demitri is actually the main protagonist of Darkstalkers. It's just that Morrigan was such a dark horse for the series that Demitri got shafted even harder than alex did as a capcom fighting game lead, as Morrigan immediately became the face. So his inclusion is logical, its just that yeah you probably should have included the girl who shafted him from Mahvel representation.
I mean Demitri had all the move set of Ryu and Ken and than some it was obvious he was designed as main character and I might be remembering wrong but I think Japanese name of the game was Vampire: The Night Warrior.
Finally, somebody who GETS IT. Morrigan is as much of a protagonist to Darkstalkers as Scorpion is to Mortal Kombat. They may be the most popular characters from their respective franchises, but neither of them did jackshit to advance the plot or resolve the conflict against the final boss. Demitri did that. HE'S the one who beat Pyron, and HE is the center of the lore. I don't care what anybody says. That's just canon. And CAPCOM writes the canon, not Morrigan's deranged fanboys. I swear, these people never played a fucking Darkstalkers game in their lives.
It's too bad Capcom of today is too scared to do something like this anymore. A Capcom only fighting game crossover with actual effort put into it would be great.
They got better recently after the RE engine but between Inafune trying to westernize every possible capcom game until he got fired , On Disc DLC's , Resident evil 6 coming out and selling well but also destroying the series reputation for almost a decade (that revelations managed to get back to shape a little only for the abomination Op Raccon City was)... that era was terror itself.
When I was younger, during hurricane Ike, I was in Texas and the only real fighting game I had was this one at the time. Living with my grandmother in her house that was falling apart, I remember working for hours trying to get Shin Akuma boss fight to happen. Finally after a while, the rain is coming down hard and its storming and as soon as I clutch out the victory and the game saved, all the power went out. Just me and my brother and my uncle getting hype even after the power goes out. This is a bad game in hindsight but for that moment, for that night, this was the most glorious game ever and we were hype as hell.
Fun fact, Ingrid is not as hated as the internet would want you to believe, if you dig a little dipper, you will find that is a very vocal minority who hates her. Most people either dont mind her, like her, or don't know who she is. The reason why it seems like she is very hated is due the obscurity of the game, and the few people who know about it, a subset of them hates her, so that tends to dominate the conversation. Is the same effect that happens with the SF3 series. Where the internet would make you believe is one of the most beloved "classics" from capcom, when in reality the game historically has been looked down by the majority of the people on the fgc, and in the general public wasn't even known. Is an echo chamber effect.
I never got the hate. SF has so many oddballs in it: Psychics, demons, mutants, cyborgs, body hoppers, heck even deities like Gill. A female goddess is not that weird
The biggest, if not the main reason people hate Ingrid is because of how she’s portrayed in Alpha 3. If she’s supposed to be something of an “all powerful and knowledgeable being beyond her years” (which is not an issue), there are many ways to make that work. However, how it was done in Alpha 3 was not one of them. Instead, her Alpha 3 story makes her come off as a self insert Mary Sue that knows far too much than she really needs to. Her future “can’t be seen”. Plus, the thing about Bison’s Psycho Power apparently being “hers”. Every game Ingrid appears and/or cameos in afterwards bases her off of her Alpha 3 story. Which understandably, rubs people the wrong way.
i love ingrid as outside being at fault for street fighter x tekken(especially with what happens to eddy gordo and others like ryu disappearing in his ending can see why people would justifiably hate ingrid for that.) i would love to see her and the code holders return(think it would be a good basis for a future story for 6.) as i love her being a playful palutena esque goddess in project x zone & an actual origin for psycho power(the closest we get is the eagle idol in street fighter 2v/m. bison's base possibly being it's shrine,jp possibly being his master revived or the udon comics, also how weird his good counterpart being a girl is/the implications with the dolls.). as i don't hate her(would say rufus was more hated and was a better handled deity character than necalli/with all the gods in snk like gaia, oorochi, verse who was a plot device to bring back the dead characters like cys, those from the past and otama raga.) as the series has way weirder things that haven't been really explained like gill(who we don't fully know how he and urien got their powers from or if we'll get more history with them with how the only hint of them in 6 we have is the duality poster and likely being who actually framed ken.)/people don't give akuma a hard time for killing m. bison in 2(who called m. bison a punk whose power was better basically.). and ryu's way of getting rid of the dark hadou wasn't exactly perfect that i wouldn't say she's a mary sue with what the series has done(that re example technically has one with ada with how dragged out her mystery of alliance is outside her liking leon/to an extent wesker with how until the ethan duology definitely felt they had no idea to continue after prematurely killing him in 5 as steve is more "why wasn't leon just paired with claire" along with the pulls that series does.) as alpha 3 also has yun and yang in it(actually like to think with her time travel power she brought them as they'd be toddlers at that time.)/the ways the characters defeat the psycho drive. and would love to see her in 6(which i'd love guest from darkstalkers, megaman, strider, dmc, power stone, red earth or viewtiful joe with how good a job they did with akira in 5.) as while i wish there wasn't a big 2 focus for the other sf games it's doing a great job showing the characters after 3's events which i realized is a opposite from motw(where outside mai they mentioned what happened to everyone in fatal fury even when terry was the only returning character where outside cameos of zangief/cammy we didn't really know what happened with 2/alpha's cast in 3rd strike.).
I think this is the "Build the Roster" I'd like to see Thorgi do the most. How would he fix the game? What universes would he pull from? Would he keep Ingrid?
I’m sure that he wouldn’t be neglectful because he’s a capcom fanboy. Plenty of game universes of the capcom line. And yeah. He would have to. Maybe develop Ingrid a little bit more.
Another thing to remember about their mishandling of the Mega Man franchise: they canceled TWO Mega Man games, one of them a LONG awaited sequel championed by the guy who misguided their focus to Western-style development and the other that was Mario Maker before Mario Maker, and even after MN9 proved people wanted more Mega Man games, they STILL wouldn’t release a new game until people bought the Legacy Collections. Granted, they were the best collection of the games made available on all modern platforms (unlike OTHER attempts at this lame practice), but it sucks they will do whatever it takes to pass blame onto anyone but themselves.
As diehard Megaman fan this is was incredibly frustrating. I remember being at my friends house playing SF4 in 2012 when I heard the news. Like, man... Megaman is dead. Lol
There was so much damn hype for Legends 3. It was a cult classic series at that point and they made such a big deal of it. Then just killed it. I get Legends dying the first time, the series was only moderately succesful at the time and it was just a spin off. Wasn't happy but I could understand why Legends 3 never happened. The second time Legends died, I still haven't forgiven despite all the fantastic stuff Capcom has put out since their redemption arc started. They still know how big a deal Legends is. Rockman X Dive has Volnutt, Tron Bonne, the Servebots and dark armor Volnutt (the look you get for being a dick) as playable characters. Dick Volnutt is built around the idea of him being a shady asshole in hilarious fashion as well. Battle Network has 3 playable characters and Star Force has none. The team behind the DMC mobile game is making a Megaman game called Megaman XZ and they did an unbelievably good job with putting a proper DMC game on mobile. Those guys are giant Capcom fanboys, they care more about getting the games to be faithful than making money as they removed the vast majority of the monetization from DMC mobile's beta and dramatically lowered prices on the things they kept before the public release, because they felt the usual mobile game monetization wasn't in the spirit of the franchise, removing as much of it as they could while still being able to make a profit on their free to play game. They also listen very intently to fan feedback, suggestions for future content and have already shown a priority to appeasing existing die hard fans with rich technical depth rather than appealing to casual newcomers. If Capcom isn't willing to keep the series afloat anymore, I'd be totally fine with those guys taking over the entire franchise for them. Maybe they might bring the blue boy back from the goddamn moon after over 2 decades.
To be fair, the cancellation was done mostly because Inafune left the company while working on these and nobody wanted to pick them up after him. And considering the MegaMan fanbase at the time wasn't the most pleasant one to deal with, I can see why. If you want to talk about passing the blame, maybe you should try to distribute it fairly between all factors involved before shoving it all in one direction. Plus, of course they didn't rekease a new game before MegaMan actually sold, THIS is how it works, a game sells, it gets continued, a game doesn't sell, it gets dropped, it's the exact same for every company. And to put things in perspective, the MegaMan Classic series were the "best" selling MegaMan games... and the much hated RE6 has single handedly outsold all of them put together (on a side note, the terrible Sonic '06 has outsold the NM classic series as well). THIS is why Capcom's 3 best selling franchises, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter (in that order), get new gamea constantly, while MegaMan, who flops every single time, does not get anything new until it starts selling. It's hardly "mishandling" if no one likes the game enough to actually buy them.
If I had a nickel for everytime someone covering the same obscure game within a day, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Im probably not the only one rewatching this video because of the Capcom Fighting Collection 2. And I will definitely be playing this game again after a few years.
Wow, first a video from Matt McMuscles about this game today and now a video about it from you? Never thought I'd see 1 person talk about this game again, let alone 2, and on the same day lol
Ingrid is fine. I get people's problems with her, but if what thorgi suggested happened, I think people will be more on board with her in the grand scheme of things.
@@Ramsey276one I would like that too. Hd remake or remaster (if the code still exists) would be a good idea, or just make a new game with the four characters from all stars together.
Non-hispanic westerners just hate the "cute girl more powerful than she seems" character archetype. Girls that are well received or even absolute fan favorites everywhere else like Athena Asamiya and Marie Rose get endless vitriol from the anglosphere.
Since the creator of this game was a former snk employee, I can't help but see KOF maximum impact when I look at the footage of Capcom fighting all stars.
I don't actually mind Morrigan being left out of the Darkstalkers roster for such a game, since she wasn't exactly my favorite character to play as, and we should at least be happy that Felicia was added due to her being quite cute and appealing, especially when compared to Morrigan.
32:35 There’s actually a great video made by Sugarpunch Studios that talks about the unnecessary and unnatural Hate for Ingrid, and it’s a hate that seems to extend from her onto Chloe and Athena on down to many other cute female characters with overpowered backstories or powers. Honestly, I’m confused! Who the Hell hates Ingrid This much?! She as a character has Literally Done Nothing to offend the Fandom since her very first piece of media bombed due to the sheer arrogance of Capcom!
Ingrid just like Lucky Chloe are "moe" anime-like characters. A lot of western fans utterly despise this type of characters like no tomorrow. I'm not saying that Ingrid is bad by the way, just that for some odd reason there's this group of people who get super upset about cute anime girl designs. I remember back when Alpha 2 was released some people hated Sakura although they were a smaller group than with Ingrid.
@@FrMZTsarmiral yeah it's funny to think about. Today ppl treat Sakura like one of the goddesses of the franchise (I like her enough, nowhere near my favorite SF girl, but she's alright as a character and of course panty shots help). Always wondered what made her avoid the anti-kawaii waifu ire of the western fgc but i guess the only answer is she didn't, 30 something years just passed lol
@@FrMZTsarmiral And yet Ingrid doesn’t feel “Moe” to me. Rather she fells like an girl who’s pretty mature in her mind but is willing to switch between serious and playful depending upon the situation.
I'm one of the fans who actually like Ingrid. And if we ever get a BtR episode for Capcom vs. Shonen Jump I suggest putting in Ingrid as the friendly rival to Beerus with her role in the hypothetical CvSJ story being the same as her story role in PXZ2 she's the heroic ultra-powerful sun goddess of the Capcom universe who seems to have all the info on her allies, her enemies, and is aware of the situation threating both the Capcom Universe and the various branches of the Shonen Jump Multiverse with everyone in this multiversal alliance of heroes, heroines, anti-heroes, and anti-heroines being confused on what she actually is along with being not surprised that once again she's only getting involved due to the fact this is a disaster of multiversal scale as technically a 16-year old school-girl should not be this powerful, along with should not be this knowledgeable about everything, and how she's only showing up to help when the disaster is one of universal/multiversal scale. But Beerus actually does suspect that despite looking like a 16-year old human schoolgirl she's actually the "Destroyer" of the Capcom Universe as that's the only way to explain how she seems to equal him in power, and is able to very knowledgeable about everything including the current situation, and how just like him she's only getting involved because this a disaster of multiversal proportions.
Her powers aren't necessarily the problem. Nobody really bats an eye at the "extremely apathetic world deity that only gets involved when the planet is in ridiculous levels of danger" type character. It's worked so many times before, so there's a good chance it will work again. I think the real problem is her personality; Introducing Ingrid into her first actual story appearance as an arrogant dipshit was 100% not going to work, especially when her previous appearance was in a game that was very much hated by nearly everyone at the time. Basically, the main problems that killed her potential were bad luck, horrible timing, and, most likely, a dickhead of a writer. I actually came up with a way to introduce Ingrid's character better: show her sun goddess powers against the main villain only for her to end up losing her powers for some reason and then she ends up near the point of death after losing her powers. Then, while she is completely incapacitated on the brink of death, her acting, dialogue, and facial expression show that she is utterly terrified of dying. This would then establish a connection with the player as we've all had that moment where we're very powerful at first only to end up right on death's front porch in some way and we are frightened at the concept of dying. Right away, it fixes the problem with her personality by easily establishing a connection with the player, making it easier for the player to relate to her. Then, you can explain why she's arrogant so that the player understands why she was cocky. In my idea for this, the reason would be that she hasn't actually been her mortal self for several ages, meaning she's never had to worry about death or injury. However, because of the loss of her powers so suddenly, she was completely caught off guard and didn't know what to do when she was almost killed. This also makes it easier for the player to relate to her character as her previous attitude suddenly makes so much sense and feels plausible.
@Nobody comments are not funny you troglodyte. A few, sure. However, none of them first appeared in an extremely bad game to the best of people's knowledge. Ingrid, unfortunately, first appeared in a game that not only was a complete failure both commercially and critically, but also a game that is constantly brought up as being one of the worst fighting games of all time. That puts a huge black mark on her potential.
Some niche facts about this train wreck -A dude named Jesuszilla was only able to find hitbox data for it because, and I swear this is real, the data for Felicia and Anhakaris is literally the exact same as the source game. Like, byte for byte That source game? VSAV2 😛 -Leo had a lot of his normals swapped around, for seemingly no reason. Kenji had his target combo not be able to link in to his Fire breath super, a staple of the source game. Thanks to this game, Mai-Ling is the only Red Earth player to not appear in another game outside of block sprites for Tessa in Super Gem Fighter -Alex's Backturned Hyper bomb has been butchered. The timing is all out of wack and the sound isn't even synced properly. Tf?
I don't know why it's so damn hard for Capcom to just make a freakin Capcom All-Stars fighting game. Even SNK did good with Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, and a lot of sprites in that game were new.
SNK unfortunately, never really struck much in NA, aka one of the biggest and most popular market that influences the FGC or fighting game as a whole. It only got its recognition over there after a long overdue.
@@saturncrush I agree SNK made all new sprites for NGBC including three OCs (AI,Yuki and Goodman) made sprites for older games such as AOF, Last Blade, Metal Slug, Samsho (3d ones in particular) and it was a great game with nice gameplay and a good soundtrack
@@saadhasan2518 It is all good because Capcom’s laziness in dominating came back to bite them in the butt. No cares about Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, or any other fighter for that matter that is not older. SF6 might put them back on top.
So, what you're saying is that we need Ono to make a Kickstarter for a Darkstalkers in everything but name game to get a new Darkstalkers game? Hey, if that's the only way to get Capcom to haul ass, might as well
demitri *was* meant to be the face of darkstalkers, as was leo for red earth. morrigan and tessa are polite ladies, they would understand. also, d.d. ...as in, daredevil? 🤔
Dealth is not ingrid's father he's just related to her and somewhat has a relationship with her .I would also like to see d.d ,rook, dealth and ingrid to return. And hold on ingrid has a good design and can also be written better i prefer them going back to her original story .
I actually consider Ingrid to be one of my favorite heroines in Capcom's lineup of protagonists. I mean her appearance in PXZ2 as a playable solo unit proves how to do her character right, basically despite looking like a super-hot 16 year old school girl she's actually a ultra-powerful sun goddess who due to her vast knowledge on all of her allies, all of her enemies, and the current situation makes her allies not only question who she is, but what she is as from their point of view a 16 year old school girl should not be this powerful and not this knowledgeable about everything but since that is the case who or accurately what is she, and why does she only show up to help the good guys win during disasters of universal/multiversal proportions.
I think its just the (older) north american street fighter fans that despise ingrid. Apparently in japan she gets a lot of love. I bet if they re-introduce her some way, she'd gain plenty if new fans.
Argh, it's usually the north american side that's the fault or cause of many things. I'm looking at Genshin and MHA for example. I mean, I'm not complaining; it's just pretty obvious.
Fun aside, Rook/Luke is just Cool from Daraku Tenshi aka The Fallen Angels whose entire team was absorbed into SNK back in 98-ish. lol. His code is literally “Fallen Angel,” and their description of him is his name is literally “Cool” backwards. 😂😅
I always viewed Ingrid as a Street Fighter character the game really made her get a lot of attention than Capcom Fighting Evolution and Capcom include Ingrid in multiple Street Fighter media but she is the most successful character Capcom made who original game get cancelled but is able to be successful in other Capcom games but I like Ingrid in Street Fighter we need a god character in Street Fighter every other fighting games has a bunch of them.
I was wondering if Capcom could decide to make a small game about her. Maybe like a new franchise or something, idk. Yeah, kinda a weird-azz idea, but nothing is impossible. But then again, money...
I never noticed that they downgraded the animation of the CPS-3 sprites lol. I did always feel like for some reason they didn’t look their best like they did in SF3: 2nd Impact & SF3: 3rd Strike …. But I didn’t know WHY. Makes so much sense now.
Honestly I wish Capcom Fighting All-Stars never got cancelled. It looks really fun and I love 3D Fighting games. This could've been good if they fixed it more. Also the super move ending the fight like a fatality sounds really cool. That would really be a Hyper Combo Finish.
I agree, and maybe that version of Ingrid wouldn't be so hated, as I do like the design, and I kinda liked her in Project X Zone 2, though that was my only experience with the character personally
You can tell someone isn't very familiar with the DMC franchise when they say "four great games" when talking about the first 4. I remember back in the day a friend and I got our hands on a stray copy of Fighting Evolution and played for a little bit and, yeah, it is functional but it just feels off. The novelty of being able to play the Red Earth characters only goes so far. I'd love to see a Build the Roster on a "Capcom vs. Capcom." I know that a lot of it would probably be lifted from the Build the Roster of MVC4, but it could possibly be given a neat spin if it was "half Capcom mainstays and half obscure Capcom reps." Like Ryu and Gene, Phoenix Wright and Sissel, Leon and Regina, Dante and Lucia (uh, the elf from the D&D beat 'em up, not the Metro City cop or the DMC2 Lucia).
@@MagillanicaLouM Yeah, the characters are identified heavily by their class but they have canon names. I think that if Capcom were to actually reference the series with a roster spot it'd be given to the cute elf girl because of course.
@@Zetact_ Maybe. I always got the vibe the sexy rogue chick was most popular though I may be wrong only occasionally seeing ppl talk about that game from the outside
I do remember playing this on my PS2 at the time... man, what a rush job that game was. I think a 'Capcom Fighting All-Stars' done in this day and age would be well worth it. Heck, I bet that you may have or want to do a 'Build the Roster' for a potential CFAS that would be good.
Did you know Disney once planned to have a Smash Clone? They ultimately decided against it because they worried about something of theirs promoting violence. I think this was before they acquired the rights to Marvel and came out with games like Disney Heroes: Battle Mode and Disney Sorcerer's Arena.
A full-on Capcom vs. Capcom fighter would be a dope episode of Build the Roster. Picture it: an opportunity to finally rectify the damage inflicted by Fighting Evolution and bring the people what they have wanted and what they deserve! My hypothetical Capcom crossover game would include (off the top of my head so some ideas still would need to be fleshed out): - Street Fighter (Gotta have the faces, so Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li are obvious. Would have to decide who else from SF to throw in but I personally would also include Juri.) - Darkstalkers (Another beloved Capcom franchise. Morrigan is a no-brainer, and I'd also personally include Demitri and Donovan because of their respective roles in the story as well. Oh, and Jon Talbain has been WAY overdue to be included in one of these VS. games.) - Mega Man (Another beloved Capcom franchise and one of my all-time favorites. I'd wanna include the OG Blue Bomber, as well as Roll, X, Zero, Sigma, and maybe a couple of Robot Masters/Mavericks for a little variety, like Guts Man and Magma Dragoon. Might also include a couple others from Battle Network... we'll see.) - Devil May Cry (Dante, Nero, Vergil, Lady, and Trish for sure gotta be in there.) - Sengoku Basara (You're telling me you wouldn't wanna see Masamune Date GET HIS GUNS ON against Dante or Lady? Sign me up for that fight! Also, we need more villains, so Nobunaga Oda is a no-brainer IMO.) - Resident Evil (Do more people like Chris or Leon? I know a lot of folks have been wanting RE4 Leon to be added to MvC for the longest time and yeah, he definitely deserves a spot. Would also keep Jill and Wesker, with the Tyrant and Ada joining the battle. Also, what I said above regarding Masamune also applies here.) - Monster Hunter (Admittedly, I don't know that much about MH - outside of the 1st episode of Build the Roster. I just know this franchise deserves some representation.) - Rival Schools (Batsu and Akira for sure should get in. I would also throw Hyo in there because I can see him wanting to pit his sword skills against someone like Vergil.) - Ace Attorney (Who can object to Phoenix and/or Apollo? I could also see Edgeworth being at least a DLC addition at some point as well.) - Asura's Wrath (Fully berserker Asura going toe-to-toe with Oni. That's a fight I'd definitely pay to see happen.) - Strider (Hiryu, no doubt. How does everyone feel about Hien, though...?) - Full Metal Madness (After learning a little more about Princess Devilot's role in her game and how she's managed to end up in so many other crossovers, I'm sold. Devilot is a no-brainer for me. I'd likely also wanna put Jin in there as well.) - Ghosts and Goblins (There's just an odd charm about a knight throwing lances and blades at opponents while just rockin' his boxers. And again, we need more villains, so Firebrand makes it for me as well. With Maximo being a spiritual successor to Ghosts and Goblins, I'd likely have Maximo himself be DLC at some point.)
The biggest problem with capcom is that it’s run by old Japanese business men. I used to think that anime and manga depicting Japanese office politics as being petty as hell is given credibility by the industry stories we are hearing about.
"Okay, resources are at a serious premium. What are we making?" "Midnight Bliss versions of everybody!" 37:45 Speaking as one of the people calling for a Capcom vs Capcom game, my retort is that it's been fifteen years and Capcom fighting games aren't on the brink of extinction again. Give the game actual development time and no oversight from other partners, and we could be looking at the definitive Capcom fighting game. And I also just think this is the time to strike with an idea like this. Street Fighter 6 needs time to cook anyway, Marvel doesn't sound like it's happening again anytime soon. And Capcom has a lot of still active franchises they want to promote in a big roster.
I've been saying for years. Capcom doesn't deserve the franchises it owns. It's a miracle that Monster Hunter has been handled relatively well to this day.
If fans would have let Capcom finish All-Stars without incessantly bitching about the 3D graphics, then Evolution wouldn't have even been made. That's the sad part about the whole thing. A bunch of whiny fans caused this game to be pushed out
Yep. Also when the team was given the green-light from the higher-ups at Capcom's main branch in Osaka to make Capcom Fighting Evolution from the remains of Capcom All-Stars: Code Holders the team kind of got screwed due to the higher-ups giving them a very small budget to actually make the game, and a strict 1-year deadline to actually make the game, and release it for home consoles.
@Nobody comments are not funny you troglodyte looking at the gameplay clips it wasn't anything that couldn't have been fixed, the animations had a lot of weight and impact, the gameplay seemed fast and somewhat fluid, maybe with the addition of some systems the gameplay could have been improved? It's hard to know if r certain because we don't know what they complained about but the team was already ready to fix any problems.
More like Fighting Devolution am I right? Yeah, that’s not an original joke. At least we have the greatest fighting game team-up of all time: Ingrid the crossover goddess and a T-Rex.
The only reason CFE's intro gives me nostalgia feels is because my favorute mugen screenpack uses it as a source Wich is hilarious since CFE is just official mugen XD
I'd love to see you cover star gladiator, power stone and what game Jin is from I've always loved the vs series for showing me characters I never knew I wanted but now that I'm older I love these characters but still have no idea about their games because capcom hasn't don't anything with them
The game Jin is from is Cyberbots. It's a fighting game where the characters control giant mechs in space. It's pretty cool and recently got rereleased on switch and iirc PC through the latest Capcom Arcade collection
@@pleaseshutup7053 I can agree with that, I’m a huge fan of the series myself, and it’s fucking sad that this series nearly died due to being so Badly miss handled with the SC4 and SC5.
It was like the 7th re-released of Alpha 3 by that point, the game came out to consoles starting in 1998 and was released for PS1, the Naomi version, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PS2, GBA, and finally the PSP adding more characters after each one. The 30th anniversary version for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC was the worst version as it was just a laggy emulation port of the vanilla CPS-2 arcade version instead of the superior Naomi version which was the version used for the GBA, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PS2, and PSP ports.
So I watched the intro and I just want to say I am watching this video for the very first time. So its never really too late to watch a video as long as the topic is interesting. Keep up the good work Thorgi.
Build the Roster ideas. 1. Marvel vs. DC. 2. a Star Wars fighting game. 3. Street Fighter X Tekken 2. 4. a XBOX Smash game. 5. Nickelodeon vs. Cartoon Network.
Dude, you should cover Thrill Kill! That’s one almost everyone forgot. It was turned into WuTang and I have played it. It was finished and there was a drop of the ISO file for download. It’s extremely bad by today’s standards, but I bet it could have launched a franchise. It was very violent (again, for the time) and was destined to be the first, and only, AO rated game on PlayStation. I would love to see you dive into that one!
Thanks for this great video! What a Deception this game was. I didn't know the story behind its creation. When we know that SNK released the excellent Neogeo battle coliseum, and Capcom gave us that...
The problem people had with Ingrid isn't that she is a powerful goddess. The problem they had is the powerful goddess was basically an anime schoolgirl. They can't handle that.
Looking at those Capcom All-Stars clips the game really didn't seem like it was that bad, it looked like it was something that could've been improved and become successful if they gave it a proper chance
I would love it if Capcom made a proper crossover fighting game drawing all their IPs, both new and old. This is such a popular request, that I can’t believe it hasn’t happened yet.
Look. I'm one of the few who is still holding out for Ingrid to come back. She was such a good character to me. Yeah, an obvious play on Athena x Kula, but when didn't Capcom and SNK heavily borrow from each other? Ingrid fits in the modern fighting games. Bring her back.
It's so interesting how SNK in that age used to base their games in whatever Capcom was doing, but ended up doing something different. SFIII = Garou; Capcom Fighting Jam = NeoGeo Battle Coliseum; Street Fighter II Turbo HD remix = KOF XII. I just realized this game probably inspired KOF Maximum Impact. These guys are very similar to Alba and Soire Meira, with the difference being that KOF MI actually happened and even has a sequel.
Capcom fighting games might have a bright future ahead of them if the work of Nakayama-san and company is anything to go by. Their team has had to essentially reinvent SFV in multiple ways to get it to be the best it can possibly be from a gameplay perspective. The online is sadly never going to be fixed since I highly doubt they're going to invest in implementing rollback netcode for game in its fifth year and seeing its final pieces of content. On the plus side their choices for the final season of SFV have shown that they're actively listening to the community. Giving us the most unique Dan in SF history, an actually fun take on Rose, a faithful addition for Oro, and most importantly finally giving us Akira from Rival Schools in a new fighting game. That alone inspires real hope for the future of Capcom fighting games. It's fair to say that Capcom have had a really stupidly stubborn past, but I think we're seeing a company willing to change. They no longer put out dozens of games that cannibalize their own sales. They saw how much people hated RE6 and have gone in new (and insanely popular) directions with the franchise. They saw how much people hated DmC so they (eventually) gave us V. They had to watch fans and critics alike criticize them for releasing Street Fighter V in the state they did at launch and now that Ono is gone have seen the game grow in leaps in bounds. Like everyone has said, I'm thankful for what Ono did for the scene in 09, but we live in a different landscape and have to have people in charge who know how to adapt. I'm optimistic for whatever they work on next. Something I think we might get a glimpse of in 12 hours with the SFV Summer Update presentation. A man can dream.
Don't forget about how people were dissapointed how Mega Man Legends 3, Rockman Online and Mega Man Univetse were cancelled when Inafune left, so Capcom gave us Legacy Collection, which eventually gave us 11, and Mighty No. 9's failure might be responsible for Capcom to resume the series at long last with a new producer.
I never heard of this game before now (since I was born in 1997), but even with the criticism, I think the game could have taken off if more time and money was put into it. That was made pretty clear by this video and some good points were made on how it's bad but I think it had potential to be Capcom's version of Smash Bros. Yeah, it is VERY unlikely to come back but I do think it had something good to it. P.S. I agree that Ingrid was interesting but needed a better execution to be used.
Speaking of Mega Man, why not tackle The Power Fighters series a.k.a. why don't we just make a compilation of all the mega man boss rushes and make it into a arcade fighter and yet we never do it again also never bring back duo. Also I can tell you exactly why the game was never going to continue, you create a taunt system and you don't feature Dan! The man who literally invented a martial arts fighting style of targeting, the decoration victory should literally be his fishing move! Also is it just me or does Capcom really need to be hit with the Bender stick in order to do things. Seriously developers need to say"fine I'll build my own fighting game, with blackjack and hookers." Knowing that fighting game universe that could still happen, I mean we do have Rockman poker & Roll has been seen in a bunny girl outfit!
Personally, as much as I believe that Ingrid is overhated, I can see how she can be hated. Forget that she came from a failed game, the idea of someone coming out of nowhere and instantly resolves an issue that has been plaguing the main/lead character as easily as flipping a switch, then to essentially humiliate the big bad of the series and reducing him to a joke? There's willing suspension of disbelief and then there's a point where one goes "I call bullshit." It would be like if a guy who looked like some 90s heart throb appeared in the latest MK game who defeated Shao Khan and Shang Tsung, save Earthrealm, restored Edenia, made Mileena into a full-blooded Edenian, cleansed Noob Saibot, De-Cyberize Cyrax and Sector, and finally ascend to Elder God status. It's all the major Mary Sue traits rolled into one. Do I think Ingrid can be redeemed? Of course! But it will be a tall task that will require careful precision outside of a redesign to the point where she's basically "In name only." And even then it likely will be a hard sell especially to those who are set in their ways and are unlikely to have an open mind. Or you can make her Fetish Fuel incarnate. It's working for Juri, Marisa, and Manon.
I agree. While it surprised me that she has a legit fanbase that supports her and there is the possibility that the haters are the vocal minority when it comes to her, she's really not that bad of a character. To me, she's kinda boring to the point where I wish someone owned her just to make things "interesting" despite the lore but she can be redeemed. Though maybe not go for more fetish fuel even though her Midnight Bliss form screams that.
Don't wanna sound like a corporate apologist but Mega Man went dormant for so many years not because Mega Man 10 failed to sell as well as MM9 but also for multiple other reasons like Mega Man ZX (both versions) and Starforce failing to sell as good as their predecessors, the Legends series always sold poorly so the 3rd game was already in a troubled position even pre-developemnt, sales numbers for the series were declining while other franchises like MH and RE were making more money than ever for the company. The final nail in the coffin was when the producer handling all the Mega Man related projects left the company, putting a stop to the franchise that was already in a somewhat precarious position. In the interviews regarding Mega Man's 11 development the producer states that most people were unsure or afraid to step up as the new producer for the franchise since making it relevant again was easier said than done.
Honestly, Capcom Fighting Evolution has potential. Hell, Capcom should return to this concept again sometime. And by all means, Capcom and SNK should REALLY return to the Capcom vs SNK series with a third installment. Fans have been asking for that for so many years now.
Why Demitri? Dimitri is practically one of the big names of the Darkstalkers series as he is the protagonist. Why wouldn't you have him in? I understand about Anakaris but Demitri matters just as Morrigan.
This was a game that had potential, and is a great example of the thing in video game development/creation A+ in concept but a massive F in execution, with the massive F in execution being because of various reasons including the fact the team at Capcom's main office/branch in Osaka on this project had only a year and a small budget to make this game from the remains of the canceled 3D crossover fighting game Capcom-All Stars: Code Holders. And another franchise I would like to see for this series is Bloody Roar.
This game wasn't made with potential in mind, it was done out of spite when the sole criticism for Capcom Fighting All-Stars was that it was 3D and not 2D, which lead to the higher-ups forcing the dev team to scrap it and make a 2D fighter instead.
I'm one of the people who's okay with Ingrid. Is she flawed and could be better? Yeah. I think it could be cool if she was in Smash Bros. Though, on one hand, it'd be entertaining to see her fight a gorilla, a literal flat image, a dog with a duck, etc, but on the other hand, there'll probably be a lot of complaints from the Smash community on her inclusion that'll be just as bad, if not worse, than when a Fire Emblem character gets revealed for Smash.
Is comic class coming back soon? Maybe you could look at Fantastic Four, since they are reaching milestone soon! I’ve been very much enjoying the series
@@Ramsey276one its a phrase popluarized by a Tekken player named Pokchop. He'll usually yell before a match and it means he wont lose a single round. Its like the FGC version of a Baseball player calling a homerun by pointing into the out field. Lol
