@@plumpy5339 yeah DMC characters in a brand new darkstalkers would be lit as all hell. And I am omega down for a Darkstalkers DMC crossover action game, maybe non-canon would be best
To anyone who reads this...Marvel vs. Capcom Collection is a REAL THING! I gave up fighting games a long time ago, yet I still remember seeing Xmen Vs. Street Fighter and losing my collective shit as a kid. Even though I was at a skating rink, nothing else mattered! First day buy for me! I'm ready to go for a ride...again...
I'm echoing a few people in these comments when I say that the pull that Max has is literally crazy. He has a massive following of loving fans, and he has contacts in a ton of studios, especially Japanese devs. Literally creates movements then talks to the devs behind the scenes about it. He is the gaming ambassador. Our middle man.
Hopefully they re-release all the Vs Series capcom games…..especially Tatsuko vs capcom I know I spelled tatsuko wrong 😑 but so what…. They all need to be re-released for all the next gen consoles.
Licensing really is the biggest hurdle for MVC2. All it takes is one group having the license to a single character deciding that they want to hold the entire project hostage for a bigger piece of the pie... Just one person getting greedy can sink the entire thing. I'm holding out hope, but this is a hail mary in the best of situations.
@@TheVentrexian Max said it a bunch of times, but Marvel characters aren’t an issue anymore, the game licenses were restructured so that game rights of marvel characters can all be used by any games or platform now, separately from film, comic or merch rights, as long as they pay for the license to use Marvel characters in general
Character licensing is a complete non-issue nowadays, fortunately. (Unless Moto Kikaku suddenly gets a stick up their ass about Strider after all these years.)
I think Disney getting their characters back helped also. They don't have to worry as much now about promoting characters with movies coming from other companies.
@@sinteleon spiderman is in the MCU though and they are friendly with Sony in regards to him. Having him in the game helps promote his movies compared to xmen would have helped fox.
I would give Max a BIG FUCKING KISS on the cheek and I wouldn’t care if he hated me for it or not. That’s how much I am excited that mvc2 is getting remastered (if it’s happening).
This is literally the best time for MVC, especially MVC2, to come back. The MCU has gotten to a point where it's able to use marvel's entire library of characters, people are gaining interest in niche marvel characters, the X-Men are getting a HUGE resurgence in the comics, Capcom has recently brought back properties that were dead or dormant for years before like Megaman, Resident Evil, DMC, Ghosts and Goblins. Fighting games are at an all-time peak of popularity, and Capcom is going to need a new game soon to fill SFV's gap. The time has literally never been better for MVC to come back. Edit: Current Capcom devs are also INCREDIBLY passionate about these games. That always helps.
@@smorf8309 Earlier this week, through, uh, Shack News, they had a direct interview with Mike over at Digital Eclipse (who I think is one of the lead producers, directors… one of the lead dudes at Digital Eclipse).
@@Phasmania he essentially was breaking down and being interviewed from shack news about what it’s gonna take to make this kind of stuff happen and what is going on as a result of it and he is actually pretty forthcoming about what is going on and what it takes to make something like this happen because like I said mike has worked for digital eclipse and has worked directly with like Capcom and like Disney and Disney before so he has a relationship with all these developers right
No actually I have a uncle who’s a computer programmer at Disney studios, he genuinely admits how well they treat him and they give him so many free things and free tickets to Disneyland and the other parks. But that’s just one guy.
@@CountOfMonteCristo_ Meanwhile my sister, her husband, and their kids switched states so he could work at Disney, which was fine until they cut his hours to the point where they couldn't afford to stay and basically soft-fired him and sever other thousand employees, a few years before COVID was even a thing. Not to mention what Disney did to MvCI and their Avengers game. Not trying to paint you bad; just very on guard with The House of Mouse.
@@DaDMonDCB no and I am truly and deeply sorry for your brother in law, It really is a mixed bad with the corporate mouse, and I didn’t mean to overshadow those who have really gotten screwed by Disney.
@@CountOfMonteCristo_ Disney and Nintendo were two pillars of my (and billions of other's) childhood. It's so weird as an adult being more aware of the shady stuff they do after grew up believing they could do no wrong.
It’s like cross-overs have become the equivalent of making and navigating a giant spider web. So SO many companies and people that need to be addressed and contacted before the gears could even start rolling. I do NOT envy anyone trying to make these things happen… 😥
As an aside, I thought the line he had about how something simple like a song can stop video games from being re-released was interesting. He mentioned his work on Frogger a game from 1981 having to be edited because they didn't have the rights to one of the tracks.
@@chrisfalcon_vt I don't know if that's the right takeaway from this. I think going forward the rights need to be more clearly defined and the developers should be careful of what they use where, but saying that the copyright laws need to be reworked....I don't know if that's the proper takeaway here. That runs the risk of basically saying that creators should have their rights to their creations revoked if another group uses it.
I'd still like to see a MvC game with a roster that has EVERY character that has been a fighter from the previous six games. That roster would be MASSIVE.
A lot of the point to how Banjo in Smash was because Phil Spencer really pushed for it and was willing to let Nintendo do it if they wanted. Hearing that *both* Disney and Capcom are made aware of this means that they're much more likely to push for it to happen.
@@georgehernandez2156 Disney is also releasing a ton of ports for their old 90's games like Aladdin. Pushing characters would only effect MVC4. It wouldn't factor into something that's already been made.
I was one of the very lucky few that was able to get mvc2 for Ps3. I was still on the clock at work when I “disappeared” to game stop to buy it lol. I really hope this new rendition happens!
If they do remaster MvC2, they should include a hidden boss fight where you take on Apocalypse, Cyber Akuma, and Onslaught all in a row just like fighting the 3 forms of Abyss.
Talking about things like Strider technically not being a Capcom character and songs having difficult to find rights holders are good examples of how one tiny thing can gum up the works, and it's something I wished more gamers realized was a thing with these older games. It's possible it's more than just purely Disney and Marvel; there could be multiple 3rd parties that have one thing baked into the game that they have claim to that want to protect the right to their work or have the original contract terms honored that could be stopping all of this. That's why cross overs and collaborations are both some of the coolest and most frustrating things in gaming.
Having hope that this game returns, it's soooo exciting. MVC2 is so legendary that it's mind boggling that we're living in a time when we can't acquire and play this game online on modern consoles. With the popularity of the MCU and fighting games it feels like the perfect game to release at this time. Aside from the fact that all my favourite characters are dogshit in this game, it's just so much fun
I'd absolutely love if Max used his pull to get some industry eyes back on Darkstalkers and start buzzing again. so many people want DS back and so many new fans could jump on board. I hope it gets another chance to shine in the very, very near future.
@@elmaionesosexo All I have to say on that matter is X Factor is kinda bullshit. I suppose it's at least comic book accurate as Wolverine has returned from just a blood splatter.
I'd like quality of life improvements. Banned glitches removed. Rollback or whatever for good connections Ranked/online/tournament play modes. Possible new skins so you can stick it in with mobile free to play mobile. However do not put characters behind paywalls. Balance fixes based around top ranked input. But allow non patched original mode so there is no gameplay changes.
@@sworddomo1951 what you're asking is the kind of stuff that could throw the game into development hell, under the hood glitch fixes yeah, nobody would notice unless they actively test for them to still be there (HD remaster actually introduced a few on its own) but anything else will need approval from all the involved parties, the less they change the most likely it actually happen, as for balance patches, forget about it, the reason people love this game, as well as all of the vs games is because of how broken they are.
The reality check that adding new characters to a new version of MVC2 is next to impossible is really sad. MVC2 always felt incomplete to me because everyone is there except for the majority of past secret characters. Having Roll in the main roster, and Mecha-Zangief and Dark Sakura as installs in the game made me think that Shadow, Shadow Lady and Lilith were there to unlock but sadly weren't.
Im totally fine with just MVC2, but imagine how cool it would be if MVC1 (cross fever mode included) and Xmen vs Street Fighter got a re release too. I may be daydreaming, but still, one game at a time. And i don't even mention Tatsunoko vs Capcom lmao that game is sadly on a worse situation. Edit: CVS2 would be amazing too
@@tkalolo7757 TVC had licensing issues when it was BEING MADE, Tatsunoko literally told them they weren't allowed to use Mospeada or Samurai Pizza Cats, and they lost the rights to Hakushon Daimao BETWEEN RELEASES
@@masterskater256 my only fear is them not wanting to do other game's re releases because they wouldn't sell as much as mvc2, because obviously, they are not mvc2
Someone tell Digital Eclipse to add the characters that were used as assistance from Marvel vs. Capcom 1 to playable characters on the new remastered Marvel vs Capcom 2! Final completion of the series.
You talk like an informative yet hyped history teacher, my favorite kind of teacher. You are seriously the shining beacon of this movement Max, you're doing great for our community!
This might bite me in the ass but I don’t really see why Disney or Capcom would say no to re-releasing MVC2 since they already agreed to re-release the other versus games via Arcade 1-Up.
If I had to guess the only hold up is that there is a different division in charge of PS/Xbox releases, as opposed to the arcade 1 ups. So just more approvals to get an Xbox / PS release that has to sync up with their biz dev release schedules etc. nothing insurmountable just a little more effort involved to get a project going
Great job Max. Looks like you did it bro. You deserve a ton of credit and surprise surprise you're actually getting it. Haven't seen anyone talk about this story without mentioning the fact that Max started it off
12:00 The moment the guy mentioned MvCI my heart sunk. X in a marvel vs capcom game was a dream, but with everything that went wrong with that project, might as well be a wish granted by a monkey paw
@@ernestlilavoisjr.3669 The fanbase is much smaller and the games much more obscure, to a lot of people Darkstalkers is just that series where the big booba green haired girl from the crossover games comes from It would take a lot less effort to bring it back but also probably wouldn't get as much traction But I'm sure (it's more wishful thinking tbh) if this gets done and is successful enough Capcom could consider other remaster/revivals
Shout outs to Marvel Heroes. I'm deep into Path of Exile, but nothing serves that lighter ARPG compliment to the depth of PoE like Marvel Heroes did. :(
Well that's never happening ^_^ loooots went wrong at gazillion games enough to have their license for heroes reborn to get a big hard yank from marvel.
I still don’t believe how just max say something about bringing back a game and already it blew up in social media and already in talks about bringing it back. I mean what about Darkstalkers? What about Power Stone?
One thing at a time guys… we really need to fully support MVC2…once these companies realize and get blown away on the sales… they’ll wanna figure out what other IP can they make money…
If this re-release happens, I’d LOOOOVE to see an online mode where you can use a tier point system, similar to Justin Wong’s, where you can only use one top tier character at most and the rest have to be mid or low. I still own the PS3 release, and getting online isn’t fun, as I encounter lots of Sentinel/Storm/Magneto teams, and I just wanna have fun with the entire roster. So having an “unfiltered mode” to choose anyone you want, and a “filtered mode” to make the matches more fun and fair, would be amazing.
@@bluewulv idk how much reasonable buffing you can do to Ryu to make him overall better than Magneto. I just use that as an example to say as the system mechanics and etc currently are, the meta is pretty much defined.
@@dforde125 Up the damage he deals, decrease the opponent's knockback from Ryu's hits to make his combos link easier, maybe have his light air tatsumaki juggle the enemy a bit and his heavy air tatsu work like mvc3's did. And there ya go. And also making Gief's grapples able to connect easier and his iron bodynot suffer a speed decrease. Still unable to block, but take maybe less damage and deal more and he would be on par with Colossus.
@@bluewulv in my opinion, neither of those buffs to Ryu and Gief would help them in neutral. They'd still have poor mobility and would get zoned out by cable nd sent. Would also still have a hard time catching magneto and storm. It wouldn't really help them against the top tiers.
I think a voiced tutorial mode for mvc2 on how to play would be a good addition and rollback netcode other than that some bug fixes and the game is good. Maybe a art gallery if possible lol.
I'm very glad to see this. Not only because it gives us hope for MvC2's return, but because people really need to understand how difficult a process this is. Far too often, I see people making video game development out to be so easy when it's far from it. This is a more extreme example since it deals with licenses, but it's important to realize how many moving parts there are when it comes to making a game happen.
Very cool to know all the obstacles that go into making a game. And a crossover at that. My dream crossover game is Killer Instinct vs Mortal Kombat. Man I wish that would happen
Seriously, it ain’t enough! Disney is already eyeing on the parks and other crack so much that they can’t see MVC2, and Capcom has been have a list of stuff on their hands! We gotta put those two on the ground and convince them to do something right for the world because ppl don’t want to! Capcom owes us this, Disney owes us more than that, big time!
I'm just over here hoping for a Marvel collection. As much as I respect the effort put into stuff like fightcade and even though the Arcade1Up deals will probably make this impossible, I just want a way to play these games with my brother in a simple manner. I don't wanna deal with setting up controllers, finding roms, setting all that up, making sure it's legit and compatible, and all that other bullshit that comes with fightcade. Likewise, I ALSO do not want to spend upwards of $700 for a collection that costs at MOST $300. Even taking into account that it's a 3/4 size arcade cabinet, the Arcade1Up cabinets have too few games and not enough quality to actually warrant that price. I also can't afford it even if I wanted to. I'll take MvC2 if it's my only option but the series as a whole honestly deserves a rerelease.
Considering how it doesn’t explain how to configure controllers and keep them configured. Nor does it say how to get the roms (but there’s tools out that will download them for you). It’s also not as easy as “go to PS STORE, buy game, download, open it, go to online, play”.
OKAY? So you could set it up while being blazed as fuck. Not every one can or is even willing. Just because you can doesn't mean everyone will. My point still stands.
I had mvc2 HD in 2009 for Xbox 360 my dumbass one day deleted it to make space for another game and when I was ready to redownload it that shit was gone smh 🤦🏿♂️

@@chrismdb5686 i said a few years because you seriously risk being banned ....Nintendo dont fuck around yo!! I'd say wait until the life of the switch is over.....it'll still be a powerhouse of a handheld 🤷🏾♂️
I really hope this comes together. My wish would be for them to take all of the Marvel characters added in MvC3 and MvCI and incorporate them into MvC2 with the same hand drawn 2D style. Crazy? I know, but that is my dream game.
You're kind of insane. It'd work the other way around maybe but adding 3D characters into a 2D sprite based game? Naw. You need to lower your optimism.
And hope they bring back SF3 3rd Strike Online Edition too and if KOF 15 does well we can see CVS2 coming back and potentially a CVS3 that's far too long over due. Sh*t should've came out from since the early to mid 2010s
Please pray for my financial issues, I am going through a homeless phase, I pray it's a phase anyway. I couldn't even eat today. I love you all. Also I hope MvC2 happens for you all, I'm a Third Strike kind of guy.
I preciate Max bringing up the NAOMI board during this, I'm sure Arcade 1-Up would love to do MvC2 but making different hardware under the hood changes things.
this is pretty much the biggest reason social media is important, to reach people that is super above us, i can't believe you made them aware of marvel vs capcom 2 and how important is to us, thanks max
I swear to God, I'll buy MVSC2 on every platform now if this happens. I'll buy it for Xbox, Switch, Playstation, shit I don't even have a gaming PC, but I'll still buy that anyway.😂 Especially with rollback net code. 👀
Thank you max for all your influence in the fighting games world. I'm just a casual player from a 3rd world country but what you do about this is just amazing and your influence and your work will surely have a reward. Keep in mind that as i said, i'm from the 3rd world and your influence is reaching here so it means that Disney and Capcom have already heard you and the community. Big hugs from Argentina.
