Most people know of Alexander Graham Bell as the inventor of the telephone, but that wasn't his only interest. He was also into aviation, and was a pioneer in Canadian aviation, as well as developing of hydrofoil boats, one of which held the world speed record for water craft for over a decade, set on September 9, 1919, travelling 70.86 mph. His work based in Beinn Bhreagh on beautiful Bras d'Or Lake also was responsible for the first powered flight, The Silver Dart, in Canada taking place 23 February 1909.

One important fact about louisbourg, canada parks has and is rebuilding that site one building at a time basing themselves on the original plans. Truly a gem. They ordered the windows glass pane back from the same company in france that supplied the original colony.

Ha when you said farewell to NF, have you heard farewell to NS. Google it a good song. My son in law is from Cape Breton, his brother in law’s brother is Bruce Guthro a famous CB singer who just passed. As someone from there posted further down Oct and the leaves is stunning! If you are in north Sydney there is a restaurant called Janes or was there when we were there for our daughters wedding) the best ever Lemon Pie!

Smart guard, but then I think Stacy always keeps an eye on Phil. So Stacy, the way that you can tell if a ski bunny's ski pants are tight enough is if you put a dime in the back pocket you can should be able to tell if it's head or tails, or that's what I was told back in the 1970s when I was skiing. Just letting you know so you can be a properly dressed ski bunny. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

I am from the West coast of Canada, Vancouver island we don’t have Lobster in the Pacific North West , when I was in the Navy in Halifax a group of us went to Cape Breton bought some lobster and went to a park and cooked it there I can never forget that experience, Even though we do crab boils out doors on Vancouver Island,

My brother lives in NS and he was saying it's been their worse summer ever. Between burning up this spring to rain almost everyday after that. They just got hit with Lee and got lucky with no damage just power lost with the cell service down as well.

Glad to see that you both made it to the Cabot Trail. I spent my honeymoon there in 91 along with PEI. The Canadian maritimes are the most scenic and hospitable places you can go in Canada. I hope you can make it to Prince Edward Island (PEI) a must see and a grand finale, can’t miss; Quebec City, which is where Canada’s most historical NAVAL invasion of the British took place in 1759. You can arrange to personally fire the daily 12:00 pm cannon at the Citadel. It’s the safest, most picturesque, and only one of two walled cities in North America. The other is Campeche, Campeche, Mexico. May God bless your travels! 😊🇨🇦💙

We just got back from Cape Breton! It was a whirlwind tour through 5 provinces, including our home province of Ontario, through New Brunswick (the Bay of Fundy and its 45 foot tides is stunning), Nova Scotia and PEI. Newfoundland will have to wait until next year. Glad you enjoyed our Atlantic gems.

Well now you're in my old stomping grounds. I grew up in Inverness County, Cape Breton and go back to visit every summer. Cool seeing you at The Dancing Goat in Margaree. I was also in Ingonish, Ski Cape Smokey and went on the Englishtown Ferry in early July. Did you spend any time in Cheticamp? KYD also toured The Cabot Trail in July.

I hope you folks get to see more of Nova Scotia, there is so much more to see. The Bay of Fundy is great as well as the Annapolis Valley. If you get to Halifax I recommend you get to Tony's Donair and have a unique to Halifax food called a Donair. Get one with the normal fixings tomatoes onions and extra sauce.

We camped there in our family pop-up Apache in 1976. The ferry ride over there was a storm and we had 30' waves. It was scary to us teens and everyone side from my father and I were constantly sick. We went to the cafeteria to escape the constant"noise." 😂🤣😂

Perhaps you have already left Cape Breton, but if not, I recommend a quick turn around so that you can make a quick visit to the Clucking Hen (Dancing Goat, c'mon now) on the Cabot Trail Cafe and sample their bakewares. Especially the Butter Tarts - a truly unique Canadian Sweet Treat (Poutine - c'mon now) 45703 Cabot Trail - near North Shore. If you don't, or can't you are missing something very, very special and uniquely Canadian. But you can save this for your return journey. As they say, once you have been to Cape Breton, your heart will never leave. You will be back. After many years of abscence, my heart is still somewhere wandering between Mabou and Saint Ann's Bay. Stay safe you two - Bernie from Bedford 😄

We drove the Cabot Trail in our Class C this summer. We stayed in Cheticamp 1 night, then went to Hideaway Campground and Oyster Market for 4 nights. Beautiful scenery everywhere!!! We found that the roads in the National Park were very good, but outside of the park, they ranged from bad to awful! Add time to your trip for that portion of the drive.

In December nothing is open on that side of the island and if u travel counter-clockwise cheticamp to ingonish u could be hit with 11 or more feet of snow you are in the mountains north and MacKenzie mountains scary drive the whole trail that time of year is scary so u go to sydney in December there is no snow,might be raining,so December good luck if u do.

Enjoyed your video. Last year we had planned to do the Cabot Trail upon returning from Newfoundland. But we were chased out of Canada by Hurricane Fiona. So we came back to do it this summer. We enjoyed a variety of activities along the way and it was interesting to compare with what you did. How many days did you take do do the Cabot Trail? It was hard to tell. Did you go to Meat Cove?

Have you stopped into the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck? Did you get caught up in post tropical storm Lee or have you departed before it arrived? Hope you get a chance to stop into Halifax (my city, noon time cannon shot off at the Citadel) and Peggy's Cove (stay off the black rocks, they're slippery and you could be swept out into the ocean). Have a great visit.

We were there 3 weeks and wished we had another 2 weeks. There is so much to see and do, we just didn't give ourselves enough time. The ferry ride was awesome with the cabin. I slept and Stacy worked a bit. :)

Quebec City is magical. Find a place for the RV on the other side of the St Lawrence near Levis and then take the ferry across. Runs every 20mins and only takes 12/-15 minutes to cross. Then explore old Quebec on foot.

She said the majority of the time when she told people that she speaks French, they continued speaking to her in English. She had been told that people would not speak to her in English but she experienced the complete opposite.

We spent six weeks in Nova Scotia thus summer. Didn’t hear anything about Canadian politics the whole time. How refreshing🇺🇸🇨🇦

Well, our experience with Cape Breton was not like yours. I will say the people & the music were great. And that is what we went there for. For over 7 years I have been planning to participate in the Celtic Colours music festival. We have been in Nova Scotia before (lower half) so we knew what to expect, or at least we thought we knew. We live in Oregon, we are used to rain, we are used to mountains and ocean views being right outside our door. The Cabot trail left a lot to be desired for us. Oregon has better views and better roads. Don't get me wrong, we have traveled the world, Europe to Asia. Always on our own and not in tours or cruise ships. And Cape Breton was. . . OK, not great. Especially when at the end of the season. When they say end of season, they mean it. Like the doors close and the lights are turned off. The Celtic Colours event draws people in but when the event is over (Oct. 15) then all the restaurants/hotels/shops close till next April because of the severe weather. So when we wanted dinner, the waitress had to tell us what was NOT on the menu because they were not reordering, and the doors were closing in 3 days. Yikes! By the end of our 12 day stay in Cape Breton I was so sick of french fries and Sandwiches. That was all that was left in many of the places (full restaurants not fast food). Even the fall colors didn't show up this year. The locals were disappointed as well. something to do with a very wet summer caused the trees to go from green to brown with no yellows or oranges. And only a few reds decided to make an appearance. Glad you had a good time there. We have family in Newfoundland so maybe next time we will go more north.
