Quinag was the first hill I climbed in Scotland. I drove up climbed Quinag and camped at Clachtoll in hot weather which persisted for 2 weeks. I climbed hill after hill thinking I had landed in paradise! Subsequent visits to Scotland have been less idyllic but still captivating..
Hi Iain. You definitely made the right decision there mate, Kylesku looks a beautiful place, and what a stunning location for a hotel. Keep it going mate, nearly there.
It's gorgeous but really expensive. I got a lot of comments from locals who don't go there anymore as it's overpriced. However, as we get older we can indulge a little!
Also I agree with steveworthington930 who commented below, the most tick infested part of the whole CWT is between Glencoul and Glendhu. Unbelieveable ticks. I have never seen ticks crawling over my clothes before.
It's a shame you decided to miss out GlenCoul. It's one the most spectacular places in the NW Highlands. I sailed through Kylesku and anchored in Loch Beg below the waterfall. It's a quite primeval place, wild and isolated...
Great episode Iain. It was really interesting to see this different route. The wild camp spots by Arbreck castle is one to remember for the future. I thought the biggest waterfall in the UK is called Eas A Chual Aluinn and I was trying to figure out how you could take a boat trip to it from Kylesku. See I'm following your trip with my map out and maybe the boat trip takes you to the end of Loch Beag to view the waterfall from a distance. Anyway, no matter, the bay where you stayed looked beautiful and the day was a stunning alternative to the main trail. Fair play for working it out while on the trail. I wonder what route you take next?
Yeah, the boat trip takes you to Loch Beag and you see it from a distance. Turns out going via Glencoul wasn't in mist that day and Peter later said the views were great and I missed out until I showed him my views and my accomodation and meal.. 🤣
I also did the Inchnadamph varient. Lovely walk except for the road bits. You did not go up to the wailing widow waterfall at the 19:44. The sign was correct. It was stunning
Thanks Garry! I used a DJI Action 3. I've had GoPros and Sonys over the years but I choose this as I found the audio to be better than the others overall without the need for a separate mic and the unit doesn't shut off when it gets hot like the GoPro does.
I,d miss out Glencoul to Glendhu Iain, done it before, it,s hard work and tick infested. We always used Glencoul bothy for the last wk end, after a hard wks dearg on the hill.We cheated, got Willie Watson,s tourist boat from Kylesku to drop us off & pick us up 2 day,s later. Happy day,s swopping brown trout for fag,s on the way out!
That's not cheating..that's smart ! I actually fancied kayaking down to the bothies when I saw there were a few at Kylesku..unfortunately not for rent!
