"Militia groups involved in the 6 January insurrection want to stage another attack around Joe Biden’s upcoming address to Congress, aiming to “blow up” the complex and kill lawmakers, the acting chief of the US Capitol police has warned.
In alarming testimony to a House subcommittee, Yogananda Pittman said that threats were circulating that directly targeted the president’s first formal speech to a joint session of Congress. A date for the event has not yet been announced."*

@liam Millman I'm not sure. I think they'd jump on Cruz pretty quick, regardless of where he was from. He's not particularly well liked, even within his own party, whereas Cuomo got a bit of a boost after his dueling with Trump and the federal government over Covid 19 response, especially the part where the response was, "Okay, New York, that's enough aid," despite thinks decidedly being far from over, and to New York's credit, they didn't really experience a second Covid spike in the summer like the rest of the country. It's kind of like how Rudy Giuliani got unwarranted goodwill cause he was mayor during the September 11th attacks, so negative stories weren't the priority, to say the least. It is a bias, but not kind you're thinking.

I was in the break room at work, at the hardware store near my apartment, in my hometown back in Kansas. I was in tears by the time I finished reading the article, and wondering why anyone would do that. Back then, I & everyone I knew thought domestic terrorism was a rare thing and that it would be growing even more rare as time went on. I had hoped it would fade away completely by now. Because of the Posse Comitatus Act of the Constitution, that was signed I believe in the late 1800's the military has very limited power on American soil. You don't want to change that either. Countries that have their military policing the public doesn't work out well in the long run. Think Nazi Germany for one. My mother-in-law lived there before and during the war. The stories she told were horrific to say the least. The DOJ is responsible for prosecuting federal law offenders basically. We have the National Guard to protect us from situations like what happened on January 6th. However, they can't make those decisions to step in on their own. That day it was Trump's responsibility to call them in. He didn't. Maryland, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and I think Delaware all started mobilizing the National Guard to send in to DC to assist. They must be called in by an elected official.

Do you understand that they feel they are fighting for democracy. They believe the election was stolen by Biden. They think people are coming to take their guns. If all they understand is force, give them force. Every time they go unpunished it sends the message that it is okay to repeat their attacks. So hey, brilliant idea, how about we stop sending that message? Who’da thunk it. Give the capitol police permission to shoot on-sight at any threat. The ones who create a threat: Gone. The ones who decide to back down: Jail time if you committed a crime (without creating a threat), otherwise if you showed up peacefully, did not engage in any crimes, and never posed a threat, feel free to leave and live your life. This is the same standard that should be applied to either side to any capitol protest in any context. Why is this so hard? Stop sending the message that their only crime was failure to take the capitol, yathink? Be peaceful and you will be safe and free. Create danger and danger will come to you. Break the law and go to jail. It’s not rocket science.

That's one reason the police state enabled that attack. They had all the intelligence they needed to properly quash it, but they refused (yes, like 9-11) to use the event as excuse to violate our civil rights more, i mean to "protect us". THEY HAD ALL THE INTELLIGENCE THEY NEEDED. If the head of police say there'll be another attack, it's not a warning; it's a threat and a promise.

John's presentation of it really drives home how utterly insane it is, not only that we've been attacked by domestic terrorists, but that they're going to do it again, while being cheered on by over a third of the country. All while a lot of the press are still trying to not call them terrorists.
