Due to popular demand.... of one friend, here is the Volta por Cima tutorial. This is an intermediate to advanced capoeira move sure to make you look great in the roda. It's an esquiva or floreio that can leave you vulnerable, but when done correctly can be a great way to avoid an attack while disguising the direction of your next attack with style.

***** That's great to hear. I'd love to hear what movement you'd like to see next. I'm also always looking for inspiration, so feel free to let me know if there's anything else you'd love to see outside of tutorials.

Thanks for asking! I would love to see tutorials for floreio, including progressions for isolated movements like the rotating bridge and also for integrated movements on the floor (closed kinetic chain) so I can follow along. It easy to find very detailed tutorials on youtube for breakdancing and even Capoeria Regional, but aside from Ido Portal's early youtube work, there's not too much teaching material in English for floreio. Cheers!

***** Aaaah - I love Ido Portal. Literally it wasn't till today that I finally found his blog, so I could make sense of all his videos. I'm going to run myself through the lessons to see exactly what you mean and see what I can do. Thank you for the detailed educated feedback. It's what I look for.

Some tidbits can be added to what has been presented in Ido's videos. Take for instance the rotating bridge, I have found the transition easier for the edge of hand (or forearm) movement starting from a wall, then to something elevated such as a bench or step of the stairs, and then finally to floor. It also helps me to hang from a bar before doing rotating bridge work, maybe because I had a past injury on my rotator cuff. I've made comment before in Ido's FB page that I would love to attend a 40 day, 200 hour intensive student training program for floreio, similar to how intensive programs for yoga teacher training are structured. To the best of my knowledge, this is not being offered anywhere at the moment. It would be affordable for many students to do this if the training were held in an exotic country where accommodations and food are relatively inexpensive. That's why you see locals in India and Bali for intensive yoga teacher training programs. Maybe Bahia, Brazil for a floreio intensive training program?

***** great points. Now that I think about it, there aren't many schools that focus much on Floreios as Ido describes it. When they do, they add it as part of a more full capoeira driven training. I would see a lot of value on focusing on pure floreios though to complement my full capoeira game and style. It maybe something to think about as I grow the channel and in my own career as a Capoeirista/movement enthusiast.

I saw this first probably a year ago, but I'm only now getting serious about queda de rins practice...I'm planning on using your shoulder pushup with head rotation exercise for building up into macaquinho!

I've heard lots of people talking about the QDR's. I'm not the most experienced at it, but I think I'm going to tackle a QDR tutorial soon. Thanks for input and encouragement!

Awesome suggestions. First time I hear of an Au Volta au Mundo, so I'd really love to hear more about what it is. I tried looking up some vids, and they showed a couple of different moves. The Au 180 is a great idea I'd love to tackle for a future vid in the future. Thank you so much for the suggestion Juan! Be on the lookout for that tutorial and a shout-out in the next few months! I'll be uploading another within the next two weeks.

Great thanks mate, love your tutorials. Getting back into Capoeira after working on mobility/rehab. How much weight goes on your feet? My left ankle/(knee) is fuarked so wondering if I'll be able to do it both sides.
@CapoeiraTrainingClub
@CapoeiraTrainingClub 7 лет назад
Sorry for the super late reply. Once you get used to the move, there isn't much stress placed on your ankles even though all your body weight is on it at a couple of times through the move. I'm not sure this is a good move if you have a hurt ankle and knee. I'm assuming you are no longer going to a physical therapist at this point. I'd recommend you run through the motion with your therapist if you still are going to appointments. Otherwise, get into it super slowly. Practice laying on your back, bending your knees and trying to sit your but on your heels. See how it feels and the progress slowly while listening to what your body tells you. I hope you are doing better now!
