For anyone wondering, the once-a-month movie thing is only temporary while I move house. That's happening this weekend (finally!) so things should start picking up again later in June. Cheers for all the support! 🤍

If you didn't pick up on it, The Red skull said, "and the Fuhrer digs for trinkets in the desert". He was referencing directly to Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I think he was referencing Hitler actually sending people to the Middle East and Egypt looking for ancient artifacts. Some say he was obsessed with the occult, others that he was looking to legitimize Aryan successors of Ancient Greece ... probably a bit of both, I don't know for sure, but it's why that was a plotpoint for "Raiders."

Always thought Hayley Atwell was perfect casting as Peggy Carter. Even in the few other roles I’ve see her in, she always gave me the impression of the classic 1940s, “Old Hollywood,” glamour. And I was instantly smitten… 😍

I absolutely cannot wait until you watch "The Avengers", but more importantly the second Captain America movie called, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". For those of us that are easily emotional, it's got a few touching moments, as well as a significant connection to Steve Rogers' character.

Captain America was a comic book which began in 1939. That's why the movie took place in the past. The outfit he wore and the triangular shield he carried while raising money for bonds were accurate to that comic (including the small white wings on either side of his head). There's a scene in the movie of kids with a Captain America comic book which was a reproduction of the first Cap comic complete with the cover showing him punching Hitler. This was before the US joined WWII but the creators of the comic (Jack Kirby and Joe Simon) were both Jewish and could see it coming.
@NoHandleGrr
@NoHandleGrr 29 дней назад
Captain America Comics #1 was published December 20, 1940. (Cover dated March, 1941; cover dates of comics were when newstands were supposed to pull the comic and slot its replacement.) It didn't take being Jewish to notice that Hitler had invaded Poland September 1, 1939, over a year earlier. Not that many didn't see WWII coming by 1936, or even 1933, or even 1920.

You had a look of non-belief when the soldier rolled under the truck and put a sticky bomb under it. American infantry soldiers used to do that to German vehicles. They would put the explosive in a sock and caked it in Diesel Grease.

I don’t often actually laugh at shows/movies/reactions. I definitely laughed at “that’s definitely Stark” :D Trivia for you: regarding the trailer at the end of your reaction, “Avengers, assemble” has been a line used in the comics for ages, often in the context of: “get over here so we can defeat this giant thing”. I don’t know how often as I never really read the comics, but I know enough to know it’s a thing. That “Some Assembly Required” line works both as a good line for the uninitiated and as an in-joke for fans. As I said, I never really read these comics; I was an x-men kid and didn’t really follow any of the Avengers characters, either in standalone or Avengers comics. But I knew the Assemble line and let me tell you, that trailer tag line hit me square in the nostalgia.

As a Swede I take a little umbrage at Thor being called a Greek God, but I think Andy does know that Thor is from the Norse pantheon.. although the MCU version takes a lot of liberties with the characters.

All you've got to know about Captain America is that when he throws his mighty shield all those who chose to oppose his shield must yield. If he's lead to a fight and a duel is due then the red and the white and the blue will come through. When Captain America throws his mighty shield.

Here are some interesting things to note about this movie. There with another candidate that fits Dr Erskine qualifications besides Steve Rogers. It was Peggy Carter because if you didn't notice when they because if you didn't notice when the general through the grenade he was running towards it as well it's just Steve got their first and only reason she wasn't chosen is because she was a woman. If you want more proof about it you need to check out the agent Carter TV series and whether it's Canon or not to the MCU it's a good show while also showing a marvel fan favorite character. The penicillin shot scene miniscule but in fact that's why Red skull looks the way he does. Dr banners gamma protection project was secretly a government super soldier experiment which is why he turned into the Hulk due to the different source of radiation Bruce used on himself while also not knowing the full extent of the experiment. The tesseract is also called The cosmic cube. In fact the new Arc reactor core Tony created in the Iron Man 2 movie was a synthetic version of The cosmic cube energy. Which Howard Stark was unable to fully replicate The Arc reactor technology due to the cosmic element.

The little things on the side of his head in his USO costume are little wings. This is a mostly accurate, though ill-fitting, version of his comic book costume. His comic book costume cowl does actually have cutouts for his ears to show through.

Unlike most Marvel superheroes who debuted in Marvel comics in the 1960s and 70s, Captain America first appeared in comic books during WWII, so I was very happy to see his origin story set back during WWII. I was also very happy to see the Red Skull (Johann Schmidt) as the villain because he was one of Cap's major villains even back during his WWII comics.

Not sure if you missed it, but one of Marvel Comics’ very first superheroes was seen at the Stark Expo in a big tube, dubbed “Synthetic Man”. In the comics, that creation would later become the original Human Torch, who would later be replicated by Ultron to become the Vision.

"It's compound V" ...Basically, yeah. A lot of stuff from The Boys is meant to directly reference events and characters from other comics (and predominantly DC and Marvel). Most of the characters in the first couple of seasons are analogues to DC characters with The 7 based on The Justice League. Superman/Homelander, Wonder Woman/Queen Maeve, The Flash/A-Train, etc etc. Marvel based characters will make more of a showing in the third season... The things on the side of his mask are eagle wings, a callback to his original comics costume and a 30s/40s vintage design aesthetic and trying to pack in as much in your face Americana as possible. During the USO/Bond drive scene, there's a montage of him punching Hitler, that's a callback to his first comic book cover which has him punching Hitler on the cover (which came out in 1940, no less, before the US had entered the war). You said early on that this film reminded you of Indiana Jones... The director, Joe Johnson, was on the visual effects team that won an Oscar for Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Germans really did try to develop an intercontinental bomber during the second world war. The 'Amerikabomber' didn't have a mysterious artifact to power it, though, so fortunately it was a dud, like many of their 'wonder' weapons. Alright, that's enough trivia from me. Glad you enjoyed.

Yes those are little wings on the side of his original costume during the USO shows. Could be worse, in the 90's they had a Captain America movie starring Matt Salinger (son of novelist JD Salinger)...among other grevious mistakes (They made the Red Skull Italian for one) They gave Captain America fake rubber human ears on the side of his mask (the classic costume had his regular ears poking out of the sides of the Mask, they thought rubber looked better)

34:20, This is my least favorite scene of the movie and makes Peggy look very immature and unprofessional. She and Steve are not a couple yet she acts jealous and betrayed. Then she literally fires a loaded weapon at him. That isn't cute that is downright childish.

For me, this movie was a disappointment. Steve Rogers is a character with so much dramatic potential that, in my opinion, got buried beneath the action and MCU references. In terms of characterization, he doesn't grow at all. Before and after the transformation, he wants to fight on the front lines, he breaks laws/disobeys orders he disagrees with, and he's willing to sacrifice his life to save others. They could have done so much more with the "weak person getting powers" bit (getting arrogant and overconfident, nearly becoming a bully himself, etc.) but didn't. This is just backstory for Captain America when it could have been the story of Steve Rogers, and it's a bloody shame.
@NoHandleGrr
@NoHandleGrr 29 дней назад
"They could have done so much more with the "weak person getting powers" bit (getting arrogant and overconfident, nearly becoming a bully himself, etc.) but didn't." That would 1000% miss the story of Steve Rogers, which is the opposite: Steve was chosen because he WOULDN'T ever become arrogant, a bully, etc. That is the ENTIRE EFFING POINT of Steve Rogers as a character.
@BenChanNYC
@BenChanNYC 29 дней назад
You're describing the character arc of almost every other MCU male lead character. I'm glad they didn't feel a need to do that with Steve. He does have an arc, it's just not the typical "growing up and being a good person" story.
