I just Googled the boat and it's ferro cement construction and built in 1977 and bought from a scrap yard in 2004. Definitely would not of went along after reading this fact. You really need to have a double steel hull to make it through ice. I guess they made it through but this almost seems like tempting fate. Glad they made it because they had kid's on board.

Heavier than normal ice back then, and the most ice in 8 years a year ago. Some much for fears of ice free waters.
