I do hope you react all 5. They are fun and Johnny Depp doesn´t fail you. If you are intrested another kind of Pirate movie: Cutthroat Island (1995) is the film that sank entire Pirate films for decades, bankrupted Carolco that was pretty famous making action films. It'´s also film Quentin Tarantino speaks highly of. Quentin said in interview: "I watched Renny Harlin’s Cutthroat Island: it’s a fantastic movie they build this entire bay, the village and there’s this great action sequence the they had to do, no CGI involved."

The 3rd movie was terrible in terms of storyline like making Will a traitor so he could get the Black Pearl and save his dad. HOW? Killing Norrington. WHY? Releasing Calypso has no consequences she just made a whirlpool and dipped out. LAME. Elizabeth becoming the captain of a Singapore crew and then becoming Pirate King. WTF. At the end of this movie they resolve to get Jack back because they feel bad but in the 3rd one it’s because the Pirate song was sung. Jack’s whole character being a caricature of himself. Like, the plot was mad dumb and convoluted for no reason.

The gold itself was said to curse anyone who stole it. So everyone in the crew took gold from the chest and when they realized they were cursed, they had to go and recover every last piece along with a blood sacrifice from every member of the crew; but as they had murdered Will’s father, they needed a blood sacrifice from Will as Bootstrap’s blood ran through his veins. Then the curse could finally be lifted. When the monkey stole the coin, he is now the only one cursed. The rest of the crew was free of the curse they had already returned all the coins and made the blood sacrifice. Jack was not always cursed. He stealthily took a piece of the gold when he was talking to Barbossa about not killing Will. He slips one up his sleeve which curses him. Just before he throws the coin to Will to put back in the chest, he also cuts his hand to make a blood sacrifice to release himself from the curse.

Technically didn't murder Bootstrap, nor did they assume as much. Bootstrap was also cursed and would be alive at the bottom of the sea until the curse was lifted. That was his punishment. If not for.. other circumstances taking place, he'd still be tied to the cannon and 'alive' until Will dropped those coins into the chest to lift the curse.

Reminds me of how silly it was that they all had a mild panic when Elizabeth was about to drop the coin over the side of the ship. They could easily track it in the water, so I guess they just didn't want to get wet one last time to find it.

Jack was only cursed for about 5 minutes. He became cursed when he stole that coin from the treasure chest. He wasn't cursed for the whole movie. And the monkey became cursed again because he once again took a coin. As soon as you take one out of the chest, you become cursed.

Fun fact about the score playing in the background of the Jack vs Will scene. Hans Zimmer was having problems coming up with a good enough score and was getting frustrated. His errand boy asked if he could give it a shot, and Hans said yes. The errand boy literally cooked the score up overnight, and Hans was so impressed he told the guy,'You are never getting coffee for me again'. And started teaching him to be a professional composer. That errand boy was none other than Ramin Djwanili; the composer for Game of Thrones.

My 2nd favorite series is Black Sails after favorite GOT. Only 4 seasons with 38 episodes. A great pirates tale with great characters with a lot of twists & turns and well known pirates. If you want to get into Depp films I would recommend 'From Hell', a thriller about Jack the Ripper. It is not among the usual recommendations for his movies but that one is really a hidden gem and very well made.

I love these movies so much!!! This movie really brought out my love for historical pirates and such! Hook befun it but this truly just made it a true passion. While the fourth and fifth film aren’t that great in comparison to the first three, they are worth the watch from home. They are just fun ones to watch. If you enjoyed JP/// you’re going to enjoy those films I recommend watching them you’ll have fun with with it! 😊

It even makes rereading Treasure Island more fun in my opinion. Most stuff nowadays trashes the original or retcons it into oblivion. That's another reason Black Sails is top level tv. It elevates the original source material.

There was never any *one* pirate code, in reality. Just as every ship had its own "colors" (the flag they flew to identify the ship), every ship had its own articles or code that every man swore to before setting sail. But for the movie, they basically cobbled together some of the most common articles for each ship into one over-arching code for all the pirates.

If you ever went on the Pirates of the C. ride at Disneyland, you are in a boat going by that very scene with pirates and the little blonde boy in the middle of it all. They were very good with capturing that ride in the film.

Hey Major, I’m back again because I wanted to tell you about another JD movie is Finding Neverland. I have tinnitus in my ears & head after my brain surgery. So, I can’t go to sleep unless I have the TV on. So I put the timer on for 2 hrs and I watch Finding Neverland almost every night. I have a few other movies that I purchased thru HBO, but I usually pick this one. It’s a true events movie about the author JM Barrie who wrote about Peter Pan. Johnny Depp got an Academy Award nomination for this role. Take care Major, Diane

Even I've never noticed that, and I've watched this movie a dozen times! 14:49 This never occurred to me before, but in this initial mini-reveal they didn't make it clear that his hand only looks that way in the moonlight. So you might think his arm just looks like that normally. Which makes the later reveal more startling! Love it! 48:32 All these years and I never friggin' knew there was a stinger for this movie 😂

If you want a little historical fact, then here it is! Well trained British soldiers could actually reload a musket on average between 2, and 3 times a minute including the time it takes to aim, and fire. So those soldiers were actually relatively normal speed!

Watch them all if you want, but the when I saw the second one I was done because it seemed like an excruciating stretch. It ruined the 1st move, which was incredibly awesome. The monkey scene added at the end ruined it all. Made all the effort in the 1st meaningless.

Well the treasure is cursed. When it's all back together with the blood oath those that took it are released from the curse. Yet, the curse always stays so that anyone that takes it again is cursed.
